TechCrunch reported the range on October 5, 2026, citing people familiar with the company; terms may change, and Etched declined to comment. The figures are reported bids under review—not a completed deal or confirmed valuation.
What is Etched’s reported valuation now?
TechCrunch reported that bids under review ranged from $40 billion from top-tier investors to $50 billion from lesser-known backers. The report did not name the bidders. Because the process is at an early stage and terms could change, the range should not be treated as a settled financing valuation. TechCrunch’s October 5 report said Etched declined to comment.

A bid valuation is not the same as money raised, revenue, cash on hand, or a public-market value. It describes a possible transaction’s terms if a deal is reached.
How does that compare with Etched’s August financing?
On August 18, 2026, Etched announced that it had raised $700 million at a $21 billion valuation in a round led by Jane Street. That is the company’s announced financing; it is distinct from the later, unconfirmed bids reported by TechCrunch. Etched’s announcement said Jane Street was also its first customer and that Etched had shipped the firm its first rack, which Jane Street was actively deploying.
#1 Best Overall
Jane Street’s statement, reproduced in the announcement, said it had tested the chip and was pleased with early results. The statement also said the firm’s own rack was running in its data center; it is a customer comment, not an independent comparison of Etched with competing systems.
What does Etched make?
Etched builds rack-scale hardware for AI inference: the computation that happens when a trained model responds to a prompt. The company describes its systems as frontier inference clusters built around proprietary chips, rather than as a consumer device or a general-purpose computer.

Why inference has two stages
Etched co-founder and COO Robert Wachen described inference as having two stages: prefill and decode. Prefill processes the prompt and its context; decode generates the response token by token. Different parts of that work can put different demands on compute, memory, and the connections between chips.

Etched says its Low Voltage Inference approach is intended to increase compute density within the same power envelope. For decode, it describes Cluster Scale Memory as a hybrid memory subsystem that creates a shared pool across a cluster. Wachen said the design lets many chips connect to and use shared memory at low latency. These descriptions explain the company’s architecture and intended benefits; they are not independently verified performance results. TechCrunch’s August interview and report discussed the design.

What evidence of customer demand has Etched disclosed?
Etched said in its August announcement that it had secured more than $1 billion in customer contracts, including customers such as frontier AI companies and cloud providers. That is a company-reported figure, not an independently audited total. The announcement also identified Jane Street as its first customer and said the first rack had shipped to the firm. TechCrunch’s October report also described a 10-megawatt Silicon Valley data center and a Taiwan facility near TSMC. Those are operational details attributed to the report; they do not, by themselves, establish production scale or sustained performance in deployed systems.

Does the valuation show Etched’s chips outperform rivals?
No. The financing reports and company materials cited here do not establish a comparable, independent benchmark proving that Etched outperforms competing accelerators. Jane Street’s positive statement about early testing is relevant customer commentary, but it is not an apples-to-apples public benchmark.
A meaningful comparison with GPU systems or other inference accelerators would need to specify the workloads and report measures such as prefill and decode performance, throughput, latency, tokens per dollar, power use, memory capacity and bandwidth, software compatibility, delivery availability, and results from production deployments. The available figures do not provide that complete comparison.
