Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Short answer: “GPS Tracker” has not been verified as the in-game name of an Escape from Tarkov item. The GPS-related item documented in current community references is the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit, linked to the Lightkeeper quest progression. Before trying a workaround, check the exact item name, whether you are in a practice or live raid, the active quest step, and whether you are relying on a current or outdated location report. No item-specific bug fix has been officially verified in the available documentation.
Why the name matters
Escape from Tarkov players often use shorthand for quest items, but troubleshooting depends on the exact inventory name. The available quest reference does not verify a separate item called “GPS Tracker.” It identifies a Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit, a GPS-related object associated with Lightkeeper progression. Treating those names as interchangeable can send you to the wrong map, quest, or support page.

If your inventory, quest screen, flea-market search, or item-inspection window shows a different name, record that wording exactly. Capitalization and hyphenation are useful when you compare the item with a current reference. If no item with the name “GPS Tracker” appears anywhere in the game client, that is an identity problem rather than evidence that the item is broken.

| The item is called Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit | Use this exact name when checking your inventory, quest, and item references. | Community quest reference; not an official Battlestate item page. |
| Following the Bread Crumbs lists the amplifier unit as a reward | Check whether that quest is active, completed, or blocked at an earlier objective. | Community quest reference. |
| The same quest reference says it unlocks the unit’s barter at Mechanic LL4 | A missing barter may reflect quest or trader-level requirements rather than a missing spawn. | Community quest reference. |
| Quest items do not spawn in practice mode | If the amplifier is the quest item you mean, searching in practice mode can explain why it never appears. | General quest overview; applicability to your exact item must be confirmed. |
| A Steam Community reply places the amplifier on Labs | Use Labs only as a lead until a current item reference confirms the spawn and conditions. | Player comment, not authoritative confirmation. |
| A Lightkeeper guide labeled Patch 1.1.5.0 (September 2026) says some recent task details were not yet documented in the community wiki | Older walkthroughs may omit or misstate current objectives, access conditions, or rewards. | Third-party guide with an explicit patch date. |
Run this triage before changing anything
These checks separate a naming mistake, an invalid game mode, a quest-state issue, and an outdated location claim. They are diagnostic steps, not tested workarounds.
- Open the item or quest screen and copy the exact name. Look for Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit rather than assuming “GPS Tracker” is the official label.
- Note the mode. Record whether the search took place in a live raid or in practice mode. Do not interpret a practice-mode result as proof that a quest item is absent from the live game.
- Write down the active quest and objective. If the relevant quest is Following the Bread Crumbs, capture the exact objective text currently shown by the client. Community references describe Labs-related objectives and taking a secured tape to Lightkeeper, but your current build may use different wording.
- Check trader progression. If you are looking for a barter, verify Mechanic’s loyalty level and whether the prerequisite quest is marked complete. The community quest reference associates the barter unlock with Mechanic LL4.
- Record the patch or client version. Lightkeeper tasks and item behavior can change. A guide labeled Patch 1.1.5.0 dates its information to September 2026 and notes that some recent details were not yet documented.
Problem: the item does not appear in a practice raid
The general quest overview states that quest items do not spawn in practice game mode. Therefore, if the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit is the quest item you mean, a practice raid is a documented explanation for an empty search. This does not establish that every GPS-related object is handled identically, so confirm the item’s classification first.
Use a live raid for a quest-item check
- Leave practice mode and select the normal live-raid option.
- Confirm that the relevant quest is active on the pre-raid screen.
- Use the objective text shown by your current client rather than a remembered route from an older video or guide.
- After the raid, check the post-raid inventory and quest status. Keep a screenshot if the objective remains unchanged.
Do not treat the absence of the item in practice mode as a confirmed bug, and do not infer live-raid spawn behavior from that result.

Problem: you are searching the wrong map or following an old route
A Steam Community reply says the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit is found on Labs. That is a player report, not a verified current spawn rule. It may be outdated, may omit an objective or access requirement, or may describe a different version of the item.
How to evaluate the Labs claim
- Compare the map named in your current quest objective with the map named by the guide.
- Check the publication date and patch label on the guide. A route without a patch number should not override the client’s current objective.
- Look for the exact item name, not a generic phrase such as GPS tracker or GPS device.
- Confirm whether the task requires carrying, extracting, handing over, or merely inspecting the item. Those actions produce different failure symptoms.
If the client does not mention Labs, do not assume that a Labs run will satisfy the task. If it does mention Labs, the player report can help you form a search plan, but it still does not prove a spawn location for the current build.
Problem: Following the Bread Crumbs will not advance
The community quest reference connects the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit with Following the Bread Crumbs. It describes objectives involving Labs and taking a secured tape to Lightkeeper, and lists the amplifier unit as a reward. It also says completion unlocks the unit’s barter at Mechanic LL4.

Check the objective, not just the quest title
- Open the quest details and read the currently highlighted objective.
- Identify whether the blocked step is a map visit, an item pickup, a hand-over, an extraction, or a Lightkeeper interaction.
- Verify that the secured tape, if required by your client, is the exact quest item and is in the required container or inventory location.
- Check that the quest completion screen has registered before moving on to the barter. A reward listed in a guide is not proof that your client has granted it yet.
Do not assume that completing a similar-sounding Lightkeeper task satisfies Following the Bread Crumbs. The third-party guide dated Patch 1.1.5.0 specifically warns that recent Lightkeeper details were not fully documented in the community wiki, so quest names and sequences should be verified in the current client.
Problem: the Mechanic barter is missing
A missing barter has a different cause from a missing raid spawn. The community quest reference says the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit barter unlocks at Mechanic LL4 after the associated progression. Check both conditions:
- Trader level: Mechanic must meet the required loyalty level shown by your current client. The reference names LL4.
- Quest progression: Following the Bread Crumbs and any prerequisite state must be complete according to the client, not merely completed in an external checklist.
- Correct item: Search for Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit. Searching for “GPS Tracker” may return nothing even when the barter is available.
- Current version: Trader requirements and barter contents are subject to change between patches.
If all four checks look correct but the barter remains absent, capture the trader screen, quest completion screen, loyalty level, and client version. The available documentation does not provide a confirmed item-specific repair for that situation.

Problem: an external tracker says the task is complete, but the game does not
Some players use third-party progress trackers to record quests and hideouts. A support document for TarkovTracker describes that project’s progress-tracking service; it does not establish support procedures for Escape from Tarkov itself or for an in-game GPS item.
Separate the two systems
| What you see | Where to investigate |
|---|---|
| An external checklist shows the quest as complete, but the game objective is still active | Use the game client as the authoritative state for the raid, reward, and trader unlock. Correct the external tracker manually if necessary. |
| The game shows the item or reward, but the external tracker does not | Use the tracker project’s own support or data-refresh instructions. This is not evidence of an in-game item bug. |
| Both systems disagree and you cannot tell which objective failed | Save screenshots from both systems, including timestamps and version information, before reporting the discrepancy. |
Changing an external tracker entry cannot create an item, complete a quest, or unlock a barter in the game client.
What to record when the issue persists
Because no verified list of GPS-item failures or tested fixes was established, the most useful next step is a precise reproduction record. Include:

- The exact in-game item name.
- Your game mode: practice or live.
- Map, raid time, and whether you extracted.
- Quest name and the exact objective text.
- Mechanic loyalty level, if the problem concerns the barter.
- Client patch or version number.
- What you expected to happen and what the client actually displayed.
- Screenshots of the inventory, objective, trader page, and post-raid result, with personal information removed where appropriate.
This record prevents a support request from being reduced to “GPS tracker not working,” which could refer to several different systems. Use the game’s current official support channel if one is provided by the launcher or publisher. No official, item-specific troubleshooting procedure was identified for this issue.
Common assumptions that can waste time
- Assuming “GPS Tracker” is the official item name. The documented name is Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit.
- Testing a quest item only in practice mode. The quest overview says quest items do not spawn there.
- Treating a player comment as a spawn guarantee. The Labs location claim is community-reported.
- Using an undated walkthrough as a current quest specification. Lightkeeper progression is volatile, and a September 2026 guide notes incomplete documentation.
- Confusing a tracker website with the game. An external progress display cannot change the game’s quest state.
- Buying physical GPS hardware or a generic gaming accessory. Nothing in the documented issue indicates that hardware can affect an in-game inventory or quest flag.
A decision tree for the next attempt
- No matching item name anywhere: stop and verify the title. You may be looking for an item that is not called GPS Tracker.
- Matching amplifier name, practice mode: repeat the check in a live raid because quest items are documented as unavailable in practice mode.
- Matching amplifier name, live raid, unclear location: follow the current client objective; treat Labs as an unconfirmed lead unless a current reference supports it.
- Quest complete but barter missing: verify Mechanic LL4, the exact quest completion state, and the current patch.
- Game and external tracker disagree: troubleshoot the game and the tracker as separate systems and save evidence from both.
- All checks pass but the state is still wrong: submit a detailed report through the current official support route; do not present an untested workaround as a fix.
What can and cannot be concluded
You can reasonably conclude that the phrase “GPS Tracker” is ambiguous, that the Far-forward GPS Signal Amplifier Unit is tied by community quest references to Following the Bread Crumbs and a Mechanic LL4 barter, and that practice mode is a possible explanation for a missing quest item. You cannot conclude from the available evidence that every player should find the amplifier on Labs, that a particular restart or cache-clearing procedure fixes it, or that an external progress tracker controls the in-game quest.
Quest and item behavior can change with patches. Recheck the exact name, mode, objective, trader level, and version whenever the game updates before repeating a failed route.
