Steam confirms full controller support for Xbox, DUALSHOCK and DualSense controllers (with DualSense support listed as USB only), plus single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op. It also advertises an optional No-Timer Mode. However, no official button chart, keyboard layout, remapping screen or complete accessibility menu has been published, so any guide claiming exact keys or navigation is premature.
This guide separates what storefronts currently confirm from settings that still need checking in the released build. Listings and features can change before launch, so verify the live store page and in-game menus for your platform.

What controls are officially confirmed?
The available product information confirms controller compatibility, not the individual actions assigned to each button. Steam labels the full game as having full controller support and names Xbox controllers, DUALSHOCK controllers and DualSense controllers. Steam specifies USB for DualSense support. That tells you which controller families are intended to work; it does not establish the buttons for movement, looking, interacting with objects, opening the inventory, pausing or navigating menus.
There is no published, official keyboard-and-mouse chart in the available listings. The same is true for a complete controller diagram. Do not rely on a control list copied from the first Escape Academy, a generic PC layout or a demo prompt as if it were the sequel’s final scheme.

Full game and demo support are different
Steam’s demo metadata reports partial controller support, while the full-game listing reports full controller support. Those are separate entries and may represent different builds. A controller working, or failing to work, in the demo cannot prove what will happen in the release version.
Can you play with a controller?
Yes, controller play is advertised for the full game. The supported families named by Steam are:
- Xbox controllers
- DUALSHOCK controllers
- DualSense controllers, listed with USB support
A general-purpose PC controller is optional, not a requirement. The listings do not say that a particular model is superior, more accessible or preferred, and there is no evidence that a controller is needed for any puzzle.
If your controller is not one of those families, compatibility is not established by the cited listing. Platform-level input translation may make additional devices work, but that is not the same as a developer-confirmed support claim.
Which platforms and co-op formats are listed?
Platform and mode information differs slightly by storefront. Treat the following as listing metadata rather than a permanent specification.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
| Storefront or platform listing | Platforms named | Play modes named | Input information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam full-game listing | PC listing | Single-player; online co-op; shared/split-screen co-op | Full controller support; Xbox, DUALSHOCK and DualSense (USB-only wording for DualSense) |
| Xbox listing | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC | Single-player; local co-op for two; online co-op for two; shared/split screen; cross-platform co-op; cross-generation multiplayer | Controller details are not given as a button map |
| Steam demo metadata | Demo build | Not a reliable statement of final mode availability | Partial controller support |
Because the Xbox page includes cross-platform and cross-generation wording, a player on Xbox One may be able to join a newer Xbox console or PC player, but the exact combinations and release-day restrictions should be checked on the current listing. “Shared/split screen” indicates local play is listed; it does not reveal the number of local players on every storefront. The Xbox page specifically says local and online co-op for two players.
How does No-Timer Mode change play?
Steam advertises an optional No-Timer Mode that lets players solve puzzles at their own pace. This is the clearest confirmed pacing accommodation. It is especially relevant if countdowns create stress, make reading difficult, or leave too little time to coordinate with a co-op partner.
A developer account, sku11knight, described the background in a Steam Community discussion on June 16, 2025: “hey dark, for Escape Academy 2, we’re implementing it with a no timer mode specifically cause of this thread!” The post also said the original game’s timer was too interconnected with room logic to remove feasibly. That is development context, not a guarantee of every implementation detail in the released sequel. The current store listing is the evidence that the feature is advertised.
What the listing does not tell you
The available information does not establish whether No-Timer Mode is selected before a campaign, per room, per player or from a pause/settings screen. It also does not say whether disabling the timer changes scores, achievements, leaderboards, puzzle behavior or co-op synchronization. Those questions require the live game to answer; do not assume that a no-timer run is identical to a timed run apart from the clock.
Are keyboard controls and button mappings published?
No. The reviewed official listings do not provide a verified keyboard layout or controller map. Consequently, an accurate pre-release article cannot tell you whether movement uses the usual WASD keys, which key interacts with an object, or which face button confirms a menu choice. Those conventions are common, but they are not evidence for this game.
Rank #3
- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).
- Precise control: features Hall joysticks and Hall triggers for a comfortable feeling, long service life and improved game accuracy.
- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
The first time you play, use the prompts shown by the current build and record the labels for your own platform. If a puzzle requires a specific action and no prompt appears, test the available interaction input only after checking the game’s own controls screen. A screenshot or guide made from an early demo may not match the final release.

Can you remap the controls?
Remapping is not verified. No cited source confirms keyboard rebinding, controller-button reassignment, alternate layouts, sensitivity controls or an option to swap sticks. Do not infer that these settings exist because the game supports controllers or because the original game, operating system or console offers its own remapping layer.
When the release is available, look specifically for separate entries for keyboard, mouse and controller bindings rather than assuming one “controls” page covers all devices. If no in-game remap option exists, a platform-level accessibility remap may be available, but its behavior depends on the operating system or console and is outside the game’s documented feature set.
Which accessibility settings are confirmed?
Only No-Timer Mode is currently confirmed by the storefront material. The sources do not enumerate any of the following:
- Keyboard or controller remapping
- Look or aim sensitivity adjustment
- Subtitle size, font or background controls
- Color-blind or color-contrast modes
- Audio visualization, visual cues or independent audio sliders
- Text-to-speech, speech-to-text or narration options
- Hold-versus-toggle alternatives
- Difficulty changes that alter puzzle logic
That absence is not proof that the options will never exist; it means they have not been established by the available pre-release information. Check the final settings menu and platform accessibility documentation before buying for a specific accommodation.

Language and subtitle availability
Language support is storefront-specific. Steam lists interface and subtitle support for English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Spanish (Latin America). It lists full audio for English only.
The Epic listing uses different Spanish wording, showing Spanish (Spain) among its text languages. That conflict means you should check the store page for your edition and region instead of treating one label as universal. Neither listing establishes additional dubbed languages, subtitle-size controls or audio descriptions.
How to check the settings after release
Because the menu path and labels are not documented yet, use this verification sequence rather than following an invented button-by-button route:
- Start the current release or update and note whether the title screen identifies a demo, preview or full game build.
- Open the game’s own settings or options area and look for separate control, input, accessibility, audio and language categories. The exact names and location remain unverified.
- Check the control page with the keyboard and mouse disconnected or connected as appropriate, then repeat with the controller connected. Confirm that the displayed device matches the one you intend to use.
- Look for No-Timer Mode before starting a room or campaign and read any description about scoring, achievements or co-op effects.
- Test subtitle language and text presentation in a safe room before beginning a timed challenge. Steam’s seven listed text languages and English full audio may not appear identically on another storefront.
- In co-op, have each player verify their input locally. Shared-screen and online sessions can expose different prompts or restrictions, and the listings do not document those details.
Troubleshooting controller and co-op problems
The controller is not detected
- Confirm that you are testing the full game rather than the demo, since the demo is listed with partial controller support.
- Reconnect the device directly, especially when using a DualSense, whose Steam listing specifies USB support.
- Close other programs that may be taking exclusive control of the device, then relaunch the game.
- Check the platform’s current controller-support page and the game’s live store listing for updated compatibility notes.
These checks address connection and build differences; they do not establish a missing in-game remap feature.
The wrong prompts or layout appear
Verify which device the game has selected and whether another controller is connected. If the game offers an input-device selector, use the label shown by the current build. Since no official map has been published, report the exact on-screen prompt and platform when asking for support rather than substituting a layout from another game.

A co-op partner cannot join
First identify whether you are attempting local/shared-screen, online, cross-platform or cross-generation play. Steam lists online and shared/split-screen co-op; the Xbox listing additionally names two-player local and online co-op, cross-platform co-op and cross-generation multiplayer. Store metadata can change, and it does not specify every permitted platform pairing, so check the current listing and session requirements for both players.
The timer causes difficulty
Use the advertised No-Timer Mode if it is present in your build. If the option is missing, confirm that you are running the release version and check the current patch notes or support channel; the pre-release sources do not document a universal menu location or a fallback setting.
What is still unknown before launch?
As of the pre-release listings, the following details need confirmation in the released game:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- How No-Timer Mode affects rooms, scoring, achievements and co-op
- Additional accessibility options beyond the no-timer choice
- Final platform combinations for cross-play and cross-generation sessions
- Whether language availability differs by platform, region or edition
Until those details are published or visible in the current build, the reliable answer is limited to compatibility, modes, languages and the advertised pacing option described above.
