What the Esatto EBF91B is
The EBF91B is Esatto’s black bar fridge model, not the similarly named stainless-steel EBF91S. Capacity: useful for drinks and basics, limited for a full household
The 61L refrigerator section
Sixty-one litres of fresh-food space is enough for drinks, lunch ingredients, sauces, dairy and a modest supply of produce. The two glass shelves can be removed to create a taller bay for bottles or containers, while the crisper keeps vegetables and fruit separate from the main shelf area. Door storage is convenient for cans, jars and frequently used bottles, although the product information does not provide dimensions or a weight rating for each door bin.
Because the usable arrangement depends on shelf position and packaging, treat the 61L figure as a compartment volume rather than a promise that 61 litres of items will fit in any combination. Tall bottles, wide meal-prep containers and bulky cartons can consume space quickly in a compact cabinet.

The separate 26L freezer is the EBF91B’s major advantage over many single-compartment drink coolers. It can hold frozen meals, ice, small bags of vegetables and a limited amount of meat. It is not large enough to replace the freezer in a family refrigerator, and frequent bulk shopping will require careful packing.
Keep expectations realistic about access: a top freezer in a small cabinet generally prioritises compactness over wide storage. Check the opening and shelf arrangement in the manual if you have a particular frozen container that must fit; published material does not give internal freezer dimensions.

Will it fit under a bench?
The cabinet is 837mm high, 470mm wide and 492mm deep. A nominal opening that matches those numbers is not sufficient. The refrigerator needs clearance for ventilation, door swing, plug access and adjustment of its feet. Esatto’s quick-start guide and user manual should be treated as the authority for those clearances:
- Measure width: allow more than 470mm so the sides are not forced against cabinetry and the door can open without hitting a wall.
- Measure depth: allow more than 492mm for the cabinet, power plug and any rear ventilation space specified by the manual.
- Measure height: compare the full 837mm height with the opening, then add the manufacturer’s required top clearance. Adjustable feet can level the appliance but cannot make it shorter.
- Check the door: identify the hinge side, handle projection and the space needed to reverse the door if your layout requires it.
- Plan airflow: do not seal the unit tightly into a cabinet. Refrigerators reject heat through their cabinet and rear area; restricted airflow can increase running time and make temperature control less predictable.
- Check the outlet: the product card specifies a 220–240V, 50Hz supply and a 10A plug. Use a suitable, accessible outlet rather than an extension lead hidden behind the appliance.
For a bench installation, draw the 470 × 492 × 837mm envelope on the floor or use cardboard at full size. Then add every clearance shown in the Esatto EBF91B User Manual. This catches conflicts with skirting boards, benchtop overhangs and adjacent cabinet doors before delivery.
How to set up the EBF91B correctly
- Keep it upright before powering on. Esatto’s quick-start guide says: “When starting up for the first time, keep the refrigerator upright for 2 hours before connecting to power supply.” Do not skip this waiting period after transport.
- Position and level it. Leave the specified ventilation spaces, keep the cabinet on a firm floor and use the adjustable feet to stop rocking. Make sure the door closes against its seal all the way around.
- Connect to the correct supply. Use the rated 220–240V, 50Hz outlet and 10A plug arrangement stated in the product information. Keep the connection accessible for isolation.
- Set the thermostat to Med. The guide describes Min as the warmest setting, Med as normal operation and Max as the coolest. Med is the sensible starting point rather than immediately selecting Max.
- Wait for full cooling. Esatto advises allowing the appliance to cool fully, ideally for 24 hours, before loading food or drinks. A warm cabinet can take time to stabilise, especially after a hot delivery or in a poorly ventilated recess.
- Load without blocking circulation. Leave space around vents and avoid pressing packages against the rear wall. Put the most temperature-sensitive items into the coldest suitable area only after the cabinet has stabilised.
These steps are more important than the thermostat label alone. Moving directly from transport to a fully loaded, Max setting makes it difficult to tell whether slow cooling is a normal first-start condition, an overloaded cabinet or an installation problem.
Temperature control and everyday use
The EBF91B uses a simple mechanical-style Min/Med/Max control rather than a digital temperature display. That keeps operation straightforward but means you cannot select an exact degree or see the measured internal temperature from the outside. Use Med for normal operation, then make small adjustments based on the actual contents and room conditions rather than constantly turning the control between extremes.
Max is the coldest setting, not a rapid-freeze mode. Selecting it permanently can increase running time without solving a blocked vent, poor door seal or overpacked shelf. Min is the warmest setting and may be suitable when the cabinet is lightly loaded, but temperature-sensitive food should be checked with a refrigerator thermometer if safety is critical.

Door reversibility is practical in a bedroom, office or narrow kitchenette. It is a hands-on installation task: support the door, move the hinge hardware as described in the manual, transfer any plugs or covers, and confirm that the gasket seals evenly afterward. If you are not comfortable rehanging a door, arrange assistance before the appliance is installed in a tight recess.
Energy use: a two-star appliance with a published 207kWh claim
Esatto and CHOICE list the EBF91B as a 2-star MEPS refrigerator. CHOICE’s review page gives a claimed energy use of 207kWh per year and identifies 2025 as the test year: CHOICE Esatto EBF91B review.
The 207kWh figure is a published claim, not a guarantee of what your household meter will record. Actual consumption varies with room temperature, ventilation, thermostat setting, door openings, food load and whether the freezer is kept heavily packed. A warm room or restricted rear airflow can make a small refrigerator run for longer.
CHOICE’s detailed expert rating and measurements for temperature stability, heat-load behaviour, noise and running cost are behind its membership access. The public page therefore supports the model’s test date and published energy figure, but it does not establish a public numerical score. Do not infer quietness, superior stability or a particular annual bill from the two-star label alone.
Defrosting and maintenance
Manual defrosting is an ownership requirement, not an optional extra. Ice gradually reduces usable freezer space and can interfere with cooling when it becomes thick. The correct interval depends on humidity, door openings and frost accumulation; Esatto does not publish a fixed calendar schedule in the supplied material.

- Move food to another freezer or an insulated container.
- Switch the refrigerator off and disconnect it from power.
- Open the doors and place towels to catch meltwater.
- Let the ice soften naturally. Do not chip at the liner with a knife or use a heat gun.
- Clean and dry the interior, including the drain area, before reconnecting power.
- Allow the cabinet to return to operating temperature before replacing food.

The available listings do not establish whether the different totals reflect gross-versus-usable measurement conventions or catalogue errors. Treat a 91L or 98L listing as a data discrepancy to resolve with the seller, not as extra storage you can safely count on. Confirm that a listing is specifically for the black EBF91B and not the silver EBF91S or another similarly named mini fridge.

CHOICE’s indexed page showed A$289, but that is a volatile listing figure rather than a current guaranteed price. Check the retailer’s live price, delivery charge, stock status and return terms on the day you buy. Avoid treating a search-result price as a standing recommendation.
The quick-start guide states a two-year warranty. Keep the invoice, model number and delivery documentation. Before accepting delivery, inspect the black finish, door alignment, shelf clips and gasket, then confirm that the compressor starts and the cabinet cools after the initial upright period. If the seller’s listing uses 91L or 98L, ask it to confirm the exact EBF91B model and its stated capacity in writing.
