The company announced the planned succession in March; its October 1 filing confirms that the appointment took effect as scheduled. David Dullum stepped down as president and continued as chief executive officer (CEO).
What changed, and when
Gladstone Investment announced its succession plan on March 23, 2026. The board approved Highland’s promotion to executive vice president (EVP) effective immediately and named her to become president on October 1. The company’s October 1 Form 8-K confirms the transition took effect that day. The distinction matters: March was the announcement and board action; October 1 was Highland’s effective start as president.
Who is Erika Highland?
According to the company’s officer disclosures, Highland joined the Gladstone Companies in August 2005. She had served as a senior managing director since October 2023 and became an EVP in March 2026. Her disclosed investment work includes sourcing and executing transactions, managing portfolio companies, and overseeing exits. She has also served on boards of past and current portfolio companies.
Before joining Gladstone, Highland worked at Wells Fargo Retail Finance and A.G. Edwards in investment banking. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance, from Boston College. Gladstone’s March 2026 Form 8-K and the October filing provide the company’s disclosed biography.

Who did Highland replace, and is David Dullum still CEO?
Highland succeeded David Dullum as president. Dullum continued as CEO after stepping down from the presidency on October 1, 2026; the two roles are therefore held by different people. The company’s October 1 filing records both parts of the transition.
How the appointment fit the wider succession plan
The March plan also named Dullum CEO after David Gladstone stepped down from that role while remaining chairman. John Sateri became chief investment officer, and Highland and Christopher Lee were appointed EVPs. In its March 23 announcement, the company described the changes as a way to support continuity and governance. That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently established outcome.
