The printer uses the Epson 252 family: T252120 black, T252220 cyan, T252320 magenta and T252420 yellow. The higher-capacity 252XL versions are T252XL120, T252XL220, T252XL320 and T252XL420. Epson’s U.S. support page also lists T254XL120, an extra-high-capacity black cartridge. Cartridge numbers and availability vary by region, so confirm the code for your country before ordering.
Genuine Epson cartridges are the manufacturer-supported choice. Compatible, remanufactured and refill options can cost less, but they carry different quality, recognition, warranty and return-policy risks. No single third-party option can be called the cheapest or universally reliable without a current, like-for-like listing and independent testing.

Which ink cartridges fit the Epson WF-7610?
The safest way to buy is to match the complete part number and color shown for your printer and region. Epson’s U.S. WF-7610 support page lists these cartridges:
| Capacity family | Black | Cyan | Magenta | Yellow |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 252 | T252120 | T252220 | T252320 | T252420 |
| High-capacity 252XL | T252XL120 | T252XL220 | T252XL320 | T252XL420 |
| Extra-high-capacity black listed by Epson U.S. | T254XL120 | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
See the Epson WorkForce WF-7610 Support page for the U.S. list. The WF-7610/WF-7620 user guide identifies 252 and 252XL cartridges for all four colors and includes 254XL black in the relevant regional table. It also warns that not every cartridge is sold in every region. Read the code printed in your printer documentation or on the old cartridge before placing an order.

252 versus 252XL
252 is the standard-capacity family. 252XL is the high-capacity family in the same color sequence. The XL suffix does not mean that a black cartridge can substitute for cyan, magenta or yellow; each color has its own code. A listing that says only “252 ink” without specifying the color and capacity leaves an important detail unresolved.
For a quick U.S. lookup, the final three digits identify the color position: 120 is black, 220 is cyan, 320 is magenta and 420 is yellow. The “XL” portion identifies the high-capacity family, not a different color system. Check the entire code, including the letter X and both zeros, because a seller may display several related codes in one product title.
What the 254XL listing means
T254XL120 is an extra-high-capacity black number shown on Epson’s U.S. support page. It is not a four-color family. Do not buy a 254XL black listing for a non-U.S. printer without checking that your regional manual and printer recognize it.

Cartridge names are not guaranteed to be globally interchangeable. Epson’s guide contains Australia/New Zealand-specific information and states that availability differs by region. Epson Australia’s back-catalogue page shows regional DURABrite Ultra 252, 252XL and 254XL products, but its catalogue prices are Australia-specific and can change; they are not universal prices for U.S. or other markets. Check the Epson Australia WF-7610 catalogue only when you are buying for that market.
Before comparing prices, verify all of the following:
- Your printer is specifically an Epson WorkForce WF-7610, not a similar model in the same series.
- The seller names your country or region, or supplies a cartridge code documented for it.
- The code includes the correct color suffix and capacity family.
- The package is intended for your printer’s ink system, rather than a visually similar cartridge for another model.
Do not assume that a cartridge advertised for a WF-7620, another WorkForce model or a generic “252 series” printer will work simply because the product photograph looks identical. Use the model number in the compatibility field as well as the code on the package. If a listing gives several regional codes, ask the seller which one will actually ship to your address.
Genuine Epson cartridges: the supported baseline
Genuine cartridges are made and sold by Epson for the printer family. They are the reference point for fit, chip recognition and manufacturer support. Epson’s WF-7610/WF-7620 User’s Guide says, “We recommend that you use genuine Epson cartridges and do not refill them.” It also says, “The use of other products may affect your print quality and could result in printer damage.” These are Epson’s recommendations and warning; they are not independent tests proving that every compatible or remanufactured cartridge will fail.

Choose genuine cartridges when predictable support, document consistency or minimizing troubleshooting matters more than the lowest purchase price. Buy the exact 252, 252XL or regionally supported 254XL code rather than relying on a product title that omits the number. The official guide is available as the WF-7610/WF-7620 User’s Guide.
Genuine does not mean that every package has the same capacity. A genuine standard 252 and a genuine 252XL are different buying choices, so compare them on the same color and capacity basis. If you need only cyan, purchasing a four-color set may leave you paying for colors that are not yet empty. Conversely, a full set can be practical when several colors are low and the delivered price is lower than four separate shipments.
What “compatible,” “remanufactured” and “refill” mean
New compatible cartridges
A new compatible cartridge is manufactured by a third party to fit the WF-7610. The package may describe it as compatible with 252 or 252XL. Treat “compatible” as a product category, not a guarantee of print quality or printer recognition. Confirm the exact code, color, region, return window and seller support before buying.
Remanufactured cartridges
A remanufactured cartridge has generally been collected, cleaned, refilled and tested by a third party. The quality depends on the source cartridge, cleaning process, refill ink, replacement parts and testing standard. Ask whether the listing is remanufactured rather than new compatible, and check what happens if the printer reports a cartridge error or the output shows missing colors.

Refill kits and loose refill ink
A refill kit asks you to reuse a cartridge or transfer ink yourself. Epson advises against refilling its cartridges, so this route is outside the manufacturer’s recommendation. It also adds handling steps and can leave you responsible for leaks, air in the ink path, an exhausted cartridge chip or an incorrect ink formulation. If you consider a refill, verify that the supplies are explicitly intended for the WF-7610/252 system and understand the seller’s replacement or refund terms before opening the kit.
A refill listing should state whether it contains bottles, syringes, reset tools or a replacement cartridge. Those are not interchangeable products. A bottle of ink may require a usable cartridge and a way for the printer to recognize it, while a remanufactured cartridge is supplied as a preassembled unit. Do not compare the price of a bottle with the price of a ready-to-install cartridge as though they were equivalent.
How to compare cheap WF-7610 ink listings fairly
A low sticker price is not enough to establish a bargain. Compare equivalent products using the same checklist:

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Match the code. Compare T252120 with T252120, or T252XL120 with T252XL120; do not mix standard, XL and 254XL figures in one ranking.
- Match the color set. A black-only cartridge cannot be compared directly with a four-color multipack. Note whether all four colors are included.
- Match the product type. Keep genuine, new compatible, remanufactured and refill supplies in separate groups.
- Use delivered cost. Add shipping and any taxes shown at checkout. A cheaper cartridge with expensive delivery may cost more in total.
- Read the yield basis. Record the seller’s stated yield and any test standard. Do not treat an unqualified page count as a guaranteed result.
- Check the return policy. Look for the time limit, whether opened cartridges are covered, and how a defective or unrecognized cartridge is replaced.
- Check seller-specific evidence. Look for clear model compatibility, recent customer reports and a named support contact. A generic “fits many printers” statement is weaker than an explicit WF-7610 and part-number match.
- Save the listing details. Keep the order confirmation showing code, color, capacity and product type in case the delivered item differs from the description.
Questions to answer on the product page
Before adding a cartridge to your cart, find the answer to each of these questions: Is the exact code printed in the description, or only in a photograph? Does the color match the cartridge you need? Is the item new compatible, remanufactured, genuine Epson or a refill supply? Does the seller explicitly name the WF-7610? Is the stated price for one cartridge or a multipack? Are shipping and taxes included in the displayed total? What is the remedy if the printer does not recognize it? If any answer is missing, treat the offer as harder to compare rather than automatically cheaper.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy advertised page yields do not translate directly into savings
Epson’s guide says actual yield varies with the images printed, print settings, paper type, frequency of use and temperature. The printer can also retain some ink after the replace-cartridge indicator appears. Consequently, a claimed yield is not a universal number for every WF-7610 owner.
Do not publish or rely on a cost-per-page figure unless both the price and a comparable yield basis are documented for the specific offers being compared. For your own records, use the same measurement method for every option: total delivered price, identical color coverage, identical paper and settings, and the number of usable pages before print quality becomes unacceptable. That produces a personal estimate rather than a guaranteed Epson figure.
Yield claims are especially difficult to compare when one seller quotes black pages and another quotes mixed-color pages. A four-color multipack may be consumed unevenly, leaving unused colors while one cartridge is replaced sooner. Record black and color use separately if you are trying to understand your own costs, and do not convert a seller’s unqualified page count into a promise of savings.
Choosing standard, XL or 254XL black
| Choice | When it makes sense | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| 252 standard | You print infrequently, want a lower upfront spend, or need one specific color. | Exact color code and regional availability. |
| 252XL | You print often enough to use a larger cartridge before its storage life becomes a concern, or you want fewer replacements. | That the seller’s XL code is the correct color and that the listing does not substitute standard capacity. |
| 254XL black | Your regional Epson documentation lists it and most of your work consumes black ink. | Regional recognition and the exact T254XL120 code; it does not replace the color cartridges. |
There is no evidence here that XL always costs less per page. Its value depends on the actual price difference, your usage and the yield basis supplied by the seller. A multipack can reduce shipping or leave you with an unwanted color, so compare it with buying only the color that is empty.

Buying one color at a time also makes sense when the printer’s alert identifies a single empty cartridge. Buying a set can be reasonable when all colors are low, when the seller’s delivered price is clearly lower for the needed combination, or when you want matching products from one seller. In either case, verify every code in the set; a multipack title can conceal a mixture of standard and XL cartridges.
A practical ordering workflow
- Identify the printer and region. Write down “WF-7610” and the country where it is installed.
- Identify the empty color. Use the printer’s own alert or your records; do not infer the color from a seller’s photo.
- Read the part number. For U.S. examples, black is T252120 or T252XL120, cyan is T252220 or T252XL220, magenta is T252320 or T252XL320, and yellow is T252420 or T252XL420. T254XL120 is the U.S.-listed extra-high-capacity black.
- Choose a product category. Decide whether you require genuine Epson or are willing to evaluate a compatible, remanufactured or refill product with its associated uncertainty.
- Compare complete offers. Record price, shipping, tax, stated yield, included colors, dispatch location, return terms and seller identity.
- Confirm the listing immediately before payment. Marketplace inventory and regional availability can change. Make sure the final checkout description still shows the code and color you selected.
- Keep packaging until the cartridge works. Retain the box, invoice and any protective pieces until recognition and print quality are acceptable under the seller’s return rules.
How to handle a third-party cartridge problem
If the printer does not recognize a cartridge or print quality is poor, stop before buying another pack and work through the listing evidence:

- Recheck that the cartridge says WF-7610 and the exact regional code, not merely “252 series.”
- Confirm that black, cyan, magenta and yellow were not mixed up in a multipack.
- Compare the delivered item with the order confirmation; photograph a mismatch before contacting the seller.
- Check whether the seller described the item as new compatible, remanufactured or a refill supply. Those categories have different support obligations.
- Follow the printer and cartridge manufacturer’s handling instructions, and avoid modifications that could void a return or warranty claim.
- Use the seller’s stated return process within its deadline. Keep the failed cartridge and packaging until the case is resolved.
Some listings make claims about firmware or future printer updates. Treat those as seller claims unless the listing supplies specific, credible evidence and a remedy if the claim proves wrong. Do not assume a firmware statement makes an otherwise incorrect regional cartridge suitable.

Place a product link only after the code, color, capacity, region and product type are clear. A useful link label identifies the complete item—for example, “U.S. T252XL120 genuine black”—rather than saying simply “cheap ink.” For third-party products, label them as compatible or remanufactured and show the seller’s return terms. Availability, seller quality and prices must be checked at the time of publication; they are not established by Epson’s support documents.

Bottom line for WF-7610 owners
For the U.S. WF-7610, the dependable starting point is the Epson 252 family: standard T252120/T252220/T252320/T252420 or high-capacity T252XL120/T252XL220/T252XL320/T252XL420. T254XL120 is an extra-high-capacity black option listed by Epson U.S., not a universal substitute. Confirm your region first.
Choose genuine Epson when support and predictable compatibility are the priority. Consider a compatible, remanufactured or refill product only after verifying the exact code, product category, delivered price, yield basis and return policy. Because usage conditions change actual yield and no current third-party offer has been independently established as a winner, the cheapest-looking listing is not automatically the best value.
Frequently Asked Questions
What ink does the Epson WF-7610 use?
U.S. models use Epson 252 cartridges: T252120 black, T252220 cyan, T252320 magenta and T252420 yellow. The high-capacity versions are T252XL120, T252XL220, T252XL320 and T252XL420. Epson U.S. also lists T254XL120 as an extra-high-capacity black option.
Is Epson 252XL ink compatible with the WF-7610?
Yes, Epson lists the 252XL family for the WF-7610 in the U.S. Match the complete color code: black T252XL120, cyan T252XL220, magenta T252XL320 or yellow T252XL420.

Can Epson 252 cartridges be refilled?
Epson’s WF-7610/WF-7620 User’s Guide says, “We recommend that you use genuine Epson cartridges and do not refill them.” A refill kit is therefore outside Epson’s recommendation and may involve leaks, recognition problems or an incorrect ink formulation.
Are compatible or remanufactured cartridges safe for the WF-7610?
They are third-party products, and quality and recognition can vary by seller and product. Epson warns that other products may affect print quality and could result in printer damage. Check the exact code, region, product category and return terms rather than assuming every listing performs the same.
Should I buy standard 252 or 252XL?
Standard 252 generally means a lower-capacity purchase, while 252XL is the high-capacity family. Compare the actual delivered price, your usage and the seller’s stated yield. XL is not automatically cheaper per page, and the two capacities should not be mixed in one comparison.
Is a four-color multipack cheaper than buying one cartridge?
Not necessarily. Compare the total delivered price and the colors you actually need. A multipack may reduce shipping when several colors are low, but it can leave you with unwanted colors or combine different capacity families.
Why did my cartridge show empty before all the ink was used?
Epson’s guide notes that some ink can remain after the replace-cartridge indicator appears. It also says yield varies with images, settings, paper, frequency of use and temperature, so the indicator and an advertised page count are not universal measurements.
What should I do if a third-party cartridge is not recognized?
Recheck the WF-7610 model, region, exact code and color. Compare the delivered cartridge with the order confirmation, keep the packaging, and use the seller’s return process within its deadline. Do not assume a generic firmware claim fixes an incorrect regional cartridge.
Where can I confirm the official WF-7610 cartridge numbers?
Use Epson’s U.S. WF-7610 Support page and the WF-7610/WF-7620 User’s Guide. Regional pages, including Epson Australia’s catalogue, may show different availability and should be used for the market where the printer is installed.
The Bottom Line
Buy by exact code, color and region: U.S. WF-7610 owners should start with Epson 252 or 252XL, with T254XL120 only where Epson lists it. Genuine cartridges offer the manufacturer-supported baseline; compatible, remanufactured and refill products require closer checks of category, yield claims, delivered cost and returns. A low advertised price alone does not establish the best value.
