You can’t install the Epic Games Launcher on a Chromebook: Epic Games Store Support says, “The Chromebook is not supported.” If you want to play Fortnite instead, Epic lists cloud gaming through NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna. Those services let you stream a game; they do not install the Epic launcher on ChromeOS.
Why you can’t download the Epic Games Launcher on a Chromebook
Epic’s support page for installing Epic Games Store games lists Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iPhone and iPad in the EU as supported platforms. Chromebook is not on that list, and Epic explicitly states that it is unsupported. Epic’s guidance does not provide a Chromebook launcher download or installation method.

That distinction matters even if your Chromebook can run Android apps or Linux software: general support for those features does not establish that the Epic Games Launcher works on ChromeOS.
How to play Fortnite on a Chromebook instead
If your goal is Fortnite rather than the launcher itself, Epic says the game can be played on Chromebook through cloud gaming. It names these services:

Choose a service and check its current setup instructions, account requirements, supported regions, and Chromebook or browser requirements directly with that provider. Those details can vary and are not established by Epic’s list of options. Cloud gaming streams play to your device; it does not install Fortnite or the Epic Games Launcher on the Chromebook.
Would Linux, Android apps, or Steam make the launcher work?
Linux
Epic’s Chromebook support guidance does not describe Linux mode as a supported way to install its launcher. Being able to use Linux on a Chromebook is not evidence that the Epic Games Launcher will run there.

Android apps
Google says Android app availability is limited to some Chromebook models, and a work or school administrator may block Play Store access. In any case, Epic explicitly lists Chromebook as unsupported for Epic Games Store; Android app availability does not change that support status.
Steam for Chromebook
Steam’s Chromebook beta is a separate app, has device eligibility requirements, and remains in development with limitations, bugs, and performance issues. Its availability does not make the Epic Games Launcher supported on Chromebook.

Optional: use a controller for cloud gaming
A controller is optional, but it may suit the way you prefer to play. Google documents gaming controllers as Chromebook-compatible peripherals and recommends looking for “Works With Chromebook” certification. Check compatibility with the cloud gaming service you choose as well; Chromebook compatibility alone does not establish support across every service.
