Enterprise AI Gateways With SSO, RBAC, and Audit Logs: What’s Verified in 2026

Only one product in the official documentation reviewed clearly establishes all three controls: LiteLLM Enterprise documents SSO, role-based access control, and audit logs. Cloudflare, Kong, Azure API Management, Portkey/PRISMA AIRS, and Apigee document relevant capabilities, but the cited pages do not verify every control for the specific product, tier, and workflow. AWS’s cited guidance describes an enterprise architecture rather than one gateway product. So a list of nine verified matches would overstate what the evidence supports.

The useful comparison is not simply whether a product says “logging” or “access control.” It is whether human administrators can sign in through SSO, receive appropriately scoped permissions, and review an audit trail that captures the activity your organization needs—without retaining sensitive prompts and responses by default.

What counts as a verified SSO, RBAC, and audit-log match?

These terms refer to separate controls. SSO authenticates human users through an identity provider; an API token that authenticates a gateway request is not human SSO. RBAC assigns permissions to users or roles, ideally with enough granularity to separate administration, log access, and team or tenant activity. Audit logging records activity, but the term can cover very different things: changes to configuration, key changes, access events, or runtime requests and their payloads.

A product is a verified match only when its documentation establishes all three for the product and deployment being evaluated. A feature listed somewhere in a vendor’s broader platform does not prove that it applies to the AI gateway, the chosen tier, or the administrative workflow in question.

Comparison: what the cited product documentation establishes

“Verified” means the cited official documentation explicitly describes the control. “Partial” means it documents related functionality but leaves a material part of the control or its scope unresolved. “Not established” means the cited page does not verify the control; it is not a claim that the product lacks it.

Product or platform SSO Administrative RBAC Audit logging Assessment
LiteLLM Enterprise Verified: SSO and SCIM are described in the Enterprise documentation. Verified: organization and team roles and fine-grained access control are described in the Enterprise documentation. Verified: admin actions and key-level changes are covered in the Enterprise documentation. Clearest documented match among the cited options.
Cloudflare AI Gateway Not established for the gateway’s administrative workflow by the cited Authenticated Gateway documentation. Not established for the required gateway-level scope; the cited authentication documentation says token permissions are account-scoped. Verified for account-level gateway creation, deletion, and updates; request logging is separately documented in Audit logs and Logging. Useful documented logging; verify identity and isolation requirements.
Kong AI Gateway Not established for every deployment or edition in the cited AI Gateway documentation. Not established for every deployment or edition in the cited AI Gateway documentation. Verified for request and response payload and traffic fields in the audit-log reference. Strong traffic telemetry; confirm control-plane identity and permissions.
Azure API Management AI Gateway Not established for every gateway administration workflow in the cited security documentation. Partial: Azure RBAC can scope access to supported Foundry or Azure OpenAI backend resources; this is not proof of gateway-administration RBAC. Telemetry is described through Foundry or Application Insights in the capabilities documentation. Relevant Azure governance features, with preview and scope questions to resolve.
Portkey / PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway Not established by the cited organization-wide audit logs page. Partial: the page describes role-based control over who can view audit logs, not a full gateway-admin permission model. Vendor page describes trails for prompts, routing changes, and guardrail updates, with user attribution. Promising vendor-described logging; confirm product name, packaging, and SSO scope.
Apigee Not established for a specific AI gateway configuration by the cited Apigee audit logging page. Not established for a specific AI gateway configuration by that page. Verified for Apigee API-management administrative and access activity, with categories tied to IAM permission types. Adjacent API-management option, not a verified AI-gateway match.
AWS enterprise generative-AI architecture guidance Not established for one named gateway configuration by the cited AWS guidance. Not established for one named gateway configuration by that guidance. Guidance discusses audit tracking using CloudTrail and CloudWatch in enterprise architectures. Architecture guidance, not a single verified gateway product.

The clearest documented match: LiteLLM Enterprise

LiteLLM’s Enterprise documentation brings the three controls together: SSO and SCIM, organization and team roles, and audit logs for administrative actions and key-level changes. It also describes OIDC/JWT and external log routing, including export to GCS or Azure Blob.

The documentation accessed on October 4, 2026, says SSO is free for up to five users and that an Enterprise license is required beyond that threshold. Treat this as a volatile packaging detail, not a permanent price or entitlement: confirm the current terms directly with LiteLLM. LiteLLM’s Enterprise product page describes self-hosted and air-gapped deployment; that is a vendor deployment claim, not an independent security assessment.

Other options: useful capabilities, unresolved control coverage

Cloudflare AI Gateway

Cloudflare documents account audit logs for gateway creation, deletion, and updates, and says these are enabled by default and available on all plan types. Its request logs can include prompts, responses, provider, timestamp, token use, cost, and duration; customers can suppress payload collection while retaining metadata logs. The logging documentation distinguishes retention and pricing by when the customer created its first gateway: customers whose first gateway was created from September 24, 2026 use Workers Logs pricing and retention, while earlier customers use Legacy Logs.

For request authentication, Cloudflare states: “AI Gateway requires a valid Cloudflare API token for each request.” The Authenticated Gateway documentation says the documented token permissions are account-scoped and cannot be restricted to one gateway. It recommends separate accounts or a Worker-side binding for gateway or tenant isolation. That request-token model does not by itself establish SSO for gateway administrators; validate Cloudflare account identity and role configuration against the workflow you need.

Kong AI Gateway

Kong’s audit-log reference documents request and response payload logging, token usage, model, latency, and cost fields, with options to route logs to external systems. The product documentation describes Konnect management, audit-log and OpenTelemetry observability, and data-plane nodes that can run in a customer environment and connect to Konnect. The cited pages do not establish a complete SSO and administrative-RBAC picture for every edition and deployment, so evaluate the specific control plane, data plane, and log configuration.

Azure API Management AI Gateway

Microsoft’s AI Gateway security documentation labels the AI Gateway tier as preview. It describes managed identity for supported backends, avoiding stored backend API keys, and Azure RBAC assignments at an individual Foundry or Azure OpenAI resource scope. Those backend permissions should not be mistaken for proof of SSO and RBAC across every gateway-administration task.

The broader AI gateway capabilities page describes model quotas and rate limits, agent and MCP tool governance, and telemetry through Foundry or Application Insights; the Foundry integration is also identified as preview. Check supported service tiers, geography, and preview status for the deployment you plan to use.

Portkey / PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway

The cited Portkey page is branded “PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway.” It describes organization-wide audit trails for prompts, routing changes, and guardrail updates, user attribution, role-based access to audit logs, and private-cloud deployment. These are vendor claims on the organization-wide audit logs page; that page does not establish SSO across gateway administration. Confirm the current product name and packaging, and distinguish permissions to view audit logs from broader administrative permissions.

Apigee and AWS: related, but not confirmed matches

Google Cloud’s Apigee audit logging documentation covers administrative and access activity, with categories tied to IAM permission types. It concerns Apigee API management generally, so it does not establish that a particular AI gateway configuration meets all three controls.

The cited AWS enterprise-ready generative-AI guidance discusses audit tracking with CloudTrail and CloudWatch in enterprise architectures. It does not identify one gateway product and configuration that verifies SSO, RBAC, and audit logging together. Treat it as architectural context, not an AWS gateway recommendation.

How to evaluate a gateway before choosing it

  1. Define whose identity is being controlled. List human operators, administrators, developers, and end users separately. Ask which groups use SSO and whether the gateway also supports the identity lifecycle or provisioning controls you require.
  2. Map permissions to tasks. Check whether roles distinguish configuration changes, key management, model or provider access, log viewing, and team or tenant administration. Confirm the scope—gateway, account, organization, or backend resource—rather than relying on the label “RBAC.”
  3. Specify the audit events you must retain. Ask whether the audit trail records administrative changes, key changes, access events, runtime requests, or some combination. Verify the fields, timestamps, user attribution, export destinations, and retention for the exact plan and deployment.
  4. Set a payload-privacy policy. Determine whether prompts and responses are collected, whether metadata-only logging is possible, and who can access any retained payload. Logging request bodies can help investigate incidents but may also expose sensitive input or output.
  5. Verify isolation and deployment boundaries. Establish whether credentials and permissions can be scoped to one gateway or tenant, where the control plane and data plane run, and which party controls log storage. Do not assume account-level access is sufficiently narrow.
  6. Get confirmation for the exact edition. Ask the vendor to identify the applicable tier, deployment, geographic availability, preview status, retention behavior, and any license limit in writing. Recheck these terms at procurement because packaging and previews can change.

Why this is not a ranked list of nine

The cited official pages support one clear all-three match and several adjacent products or platforms whose documentation leaves at least one material control or scope unresolved. They do not support nine verified products, and the sources provide no neutral comparative benchmark or defensible ranking. A longer list would blur the difference between gateway request authentication, human SSO, backend resource permissions, and audit coverage—the distinctions that determine whether a product fits an enterprise control requirement.
