1. Jaane Jaan: a concealed truth under investigation
Set in Kalimpong, the film follows Maya as she tries to protect herself and her daughter after her abusive former husband reappears and dies following a confrontation. Her neighbor Naren helps conceal what happened, while police officer Karan investigates the disappearance. The tension comes from the gap between what the authorities are trying to establish and what the people closest to the event know.

For a Drishyam viewer, there is also a direct literary connection: Jaane Jaan is based on Keigo Higashino’s novel The Devotion of Suspect X, which the Hindustan Times article says also inspired the original Drishyam. Sujoy Ghosh directed the film; the article lists Netflix as its streaming service.
2. Andhadhun: deception with the balance constantly shifting
Akash is a pianist who pretends to be blind. A performance at a retired actor’s home draws him into a murder and a dangerous situation in which other people believe he cannot see. That premise makes deception central: what Akash knows, what others assume he knows, and who is manipulating whom all matter as the story moves forward.
Rank #2
Sriram Raghavan directs this thriller, which the source lists on JioHotstar. Go in knowing as little as possible beyond that setup; the pleasure lies in watching the situation change.

Pregnant Vidya Bagchi arrives in Kolkata searching for her missing husband. Each lead deepens the mystery rather than simply closing the case, and the city during Durga Puja gives the search a distinctive setting and atmosphere.
Rank #3
Sujoy Ghosh directed Kahaani. Hindustan Times lists it on Prime Video. Choose it if you want an investigation whose place and festival backdrop are part of the experience, not just scenery.
4. Por Thozhil: clues, patterns and patient police work
A young police officer is paired with an experienced, difficult colleague to investigate murders of young women. The film emphasizes observation: the officers work through clues and behavioral patterns rather than relying on action to drive the case.
Rank #4
Directed by Vignesh Raja, Por Thozhil is the procedural choice in this list. The October 3, 2026 article reports SonyLIV as its streaming service.

5. Maharaja: an odd theft complaint turns darker
A barber goes to a police station to report the theft of a metal dustbin he calls Lakshmi. The unusual object and the specificity of his complaint raise questions; the reason he has come to the police becomes darker as the story unfolds.
Best Value
Nithilan Saminathan directed Maharaja. The source lists it on Netflix. Its starting point is deliberately different from a conventional missing-person or murder investigation, making it a good pick if you want a mystery that begins with an apparently peculiar complaint.
