Its route descriptions include gated detours involving a burnable wall, keycards, keys, switches, charges, and access opened by draining water. Those are guide-reported directions; the available sources do not establish a single best order.
When to collect the shards
The 100% Guides walkthrough says none of the eight shards are missable and that you can collect them after completing the main story. If you have already finished the game, revisit the listed areas, gather anything you missed, and follow the turn-in sequence below.
