To enable Face ID in the Bank of America app, first make sure Face ID is set up on your iPhone. Then open the Bank of America Mobile Banking app, choose the biometric-login setup option on the sign-in screen, sign in with your usual Online Banking credentials, and follow the prompts. The bank requires the latest app and offers biometric sign-in only on select devices.
Before you start
- Set up Face ID on your iPhone in the device’s settings if you have not already. Bank of America says device biometrics may need to be configured before enrollment. Bank of America Security Center
- Install the latest version of the Bank of America Mobile Banking app. Biometric sign-in is available only on select iOS and Android devices; the bank does not provide a complete model-by-model eligibility list in its published guidance. Bank of America fraud-protection resources
How to enable Face ID in the Bank of America app
- Open the Bank of America Mobile Banking app on your iPhone.
- On the sign-in screen, select the biometric-login setup option. The bank calls this “Set up biometric login”; the exact on-screen wording may vary.
- Enter or select your User ID, then sign in as usual with your Online Banking credentials.
- Follow the app’s instructions to complete enrollment. The remaining setup steps appear in the app, so follow those prompts rather than looking for a particular menu path.
Bank of America’s Security Center describes the process as selecting the biometric-login setup box on the app’s sign-in screen, logging in as usual, and following the instructions shown afterward. See the Security Center’s biometric-login guidance.

If you don’t see the Face ID setup option
- Confirm Face ID is configured on the iPhone.
- Update the Bank of America app to its latest version.

What Face ID changes—and what it doesn’t
Biometric sign-in gives you another way to access the app, but it does not guarantee that the bank will never request additional verification.
