Yes—Forbes estimated Elon Musk’s net worth at $1 trillion on October 5, 2026, after SpaceX and Tesla shares rose. That is a market-linked estimate of his holdings, not evidence that he has $1 trillion in cash. A separate Bloomberg Billionaires Index figure cited the next day by Cinco Días was about $1.04 trillion, illustrating how estimates can differ by source and snapshot.
What does “trillionaire again” mean?
Forbes Australia reported on October 6 that Forbes put Musk’s estimated net worth at $1 trillion on Monday, October 5—up $30.6 billion from Friday. The estimate rose as SpaceX and Tesla shares climbed after the market opened. Forbes Australia reported SpaceX above $167 a share at 10:30 a.m. EDT that day (Forbes Australia).

The word “again” refers to an earlier crossing of the threshold. According to Forbes Australia, Musk first reached an estimated $1 trillion in June 2026, after SpaceX began trading publicly, then slipped below it as shares declined. The October rebound pushed the estimate back to the threshold.

How much is Musk worth? The answer depends on the estimate
There is no single real-time figure that all wealth trackers use. Forbes’ October 5 estimate was $1 trillion. Cinco Días, citing the Bloomberg Billionaires Index in its October 6 coverage, put Musk near $1.04 trillion after gains exceeding $90 billion over recent days; it reported SpaceX shares around $173 (Cinco Días). These are separate publishers’ estimates and snapshots, not successive readings of one identical calculation.
#1 Best Overall
Both figures are estimates of net worth, not a bank balance. They depend in part on how the value of Musk’s holdings is assessed as share prices move. The reported figures do not establish the amount of his liquid assets.
Why did SpaceX stock jump?
Reporting on the October rally points to several market factors, but does not establish one definitive cause. 24/7 Wall St. said SpaceX stock rose about 15% over two sessions, closing at $171.09 on October 5; it reported a 7.63% rise that Monday. The outlet cited Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas’s reiterated Overweight rating and $300 price target as a catalyst (24/7 Wall St.). A price target is an analyst opinion, not a guaranteed future price or proof of a company’s intrinsic value.
Rank #2
The share-price move also needs context: 24/7 Wall St. reported that SpaceX remained below its June high of $225.64. It also described insider lockups scheduled to expire through December, which could bring more shares to market. That potential supply can matter to trading, but it does not by itself predict how the stock will perform.

Does Musk have $1 trillion in cash?
No such conclusion follows from the trillionaire estimate. A person’s estimated net worth can include shares and other assets valued at prevailing prices. Those holdings are not the same as cash that can be spent immediately. The sources reporting the October estimates do not quantify Musk’s current liquid assets.
Turning a large shareholding into cash is a separate question from its quoted value. Liquidity, control rights, taxes, sale restrictions and the effect of a large sale on the market price all matter. The reported estimate does not show that Musk could sell every holding at the prices used to calculate it.

A rising share price can lift a wealth estimate quickly, but market enthusiasm is not the same as settled evidence about long-term business value. In its June 12 account of SpaceX’s public-market debut, the Associated Press reported that the stock opened around $150, reached about $168 and closed just below $161, implying a market value of roughly $2.1 trillion. AP said Forbes then estimated Musk’s wealth at $1.1 trillion. Those are June figures, not October prices (Associated Press).
AP also reported that Morningstar considered the IPO valuation “significantly overvalued” and estimated SpaceX’s value at $780 billion at the time. That disagreement illustrates why an IPO market valuation, an analyst’s valuation and an individual’s estimated net worth should not be treated as interchangeable figures.
Company performance is another part of the debate, not a direct measure of Musk’s personal wealth. AP reported that SpaceX lost $8.7 billion between the beginning of 2025 and March 31, 2026, and that some company plans relied on what SpaceX described as “unproven technologies.” Separately, 24/7 Wall St. reported a second-quarter net loss of $541 million and $18.369 billion in capital expenditures, including $15.83 billion for AI computing capacity. Those figures are reported by the respective outlets and should not be mistaken for a complete valuation analysis.
Quick Recap
What to take from the headline
- Forbes’ October 5, 2026 figure was an estimated net worth of $1 trillion, reported by Forbes Australia the following day.
- Another index cited by Cinco Días put the estimate near $1.04 trillion in an October 6 snapshot; different sources can produce different totals.
- The rebound followed gains in SpaceX and Tesla shares, so the estimate can move as quoted prices change.
- The trillionaire label describes estimated wealth, not cash on hand or a guaranteed sale value for Musk’s holdings.
