Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no evidence-based “top five” ranking here: the verified specifications cover three Razor models, and none was independently tested. More importantly, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that children under 16 should not operate or ride on motorized scooters or e-scooters. That is pediatric safety guidance, not a universal legal rule. If you are considering a scooter for a 10-year-old, weigh that advice alongside local law, the child’s ability, and the manufacturer’s limits.
Start with the age and safety guidance
Razor markets its Power Core E90, E95 and E100 for ages 8 and up. That label describes the manufacturer’s intended age range; it does not establish that every 10-year-old has the judgment, coordination or experience to ride safely. The AAP’s recommendation is more conservative: it advises that children under 16 should not operate or ride on motorized or e-scooters. Families should consider that guidance before choosing a model.

Legal age limits and where scooters may be ridden vary by community. Check the rules that apply where the child would ride; a manufacturer’s age label is not a substitute for local legal requirements.
What the verified Razor specifications say
The available manufacturer information supports a specification comparison of three models, not a ranked top five. “Up to” speeds are manufacturer-stated maximums, not a promise of the speed a rider will achieve in every condition.

Razor states that the E100’s electrical system is certified compliant with UL 2272 by an accredited testing laboratory. This describes the electrical-system certification stated by the manufacturer; it does not establish that the scooter is suitable for a particular child or eliminate riding risks. The E100’s stated 11 mph top speed is also above the 10 mph ceiling in ASTM’s child-use scope description below.
How to use age, speed and weight limits
- Age guidance: Treat the maker’s age label as a minimum eligibility signal, not an assessment of a child’s maturity or riding skill. It does not override the AAP’s under-16 recommendation.
- Speed: A lower stated maximum speed does not by itself make one scooter safest or best. The specifications do not provide a controlled comparison of stopping distance, handling or real-world speed.
- Weight: The E90 and E100 list a maximum rider weight of 120 lb. Do not assume the E95 has the same limit; the retrieved product information did not state one. Check the current manufacturer documentation before purchase or use.
- Fit and riding location: Consider whether the child can control the throttle and brake, and whether the intended riding area is permitted and appropriate. The listed specifications do not establish a suitable fit for an individual rider or approve a specific surface or location.
What the ASTM reference does—and does not—mean
ASTM F2641-08(2015) describes a powered-scooter scope that includes products for children ages 8–12 when limited to 10 mph or less; it also says the specification does not cover products prominently labeled “Adult Use Only.” This scope description is not proof that any model above complies with the standard, and it does not establish that a product is safe for a particular child. In particular, it should not be used to imply that a scooter with a stated 11 mph maximum falls within the described 10 mph child-use scope.

Checks to make before any ride
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends wearing a bicycle helmet, following local traffic laws, checking a scooter’s age and weight limits, and inspecting it before use. Its guidance also recommends checking the brakes and other components and following the manufacturer’s charging instructions.
- Use a properly fitted bicycle helmet.
- Inspect the scooter and check the brakes and other components before riding.
- Follow the current manufacturer age and weight limits and the local rules for riding.
- Charge only with the charger supplied with or recommended by the manufacturer. CPSC advises charging while present, rather than while asleep or away from home.
Why older injury figures need context
CPSC estimated 10,015 emergency-room-treated powered-scooter injuries in the United States from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. In its 2007 report, about two-thirds of injured people were under 15 and fewer than half wore helmets. Those figures are historical powered-scooter data, not a current e-scooter injury rate, and should not be treated as a measure of today’s risk.
