Some electric kettles should not be used or passed on—not because an entire brand is unsafe, but because an official notice identifies a specific model or production lot and a particular hazard. The examples below include burn, fire, electric-shock, spill, and handle risks reported in the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan. Check the exact product and follow the remedy in its notice; an unlisted kettle is not thereby certified safe.
Which electric kettles have official warnings or recalls?
The notices below identify specific products and actions. Match the model, product number, color or production details on your kettle to the relevant authority’s record before deciding whether it is affected. Product actions are jurisdiction-specific, and the examples do not establish that other products from the same brand are unsafe.

Balbali HP-300E: stop using and dispose of it
On August 6, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned about all Balbali portable electric kettles, model HP-300E. The travel-size, 12-ounce boiler is described as stainless steel and comes in green, pink, white, or yellow; the Balbali logo is on the front and the model number is on the rear label. CPSC says the kettle can pressurize and release hot steam or liquid unexpectedly. It reported 52 reports of unexpected release and 20 injuries, including third-degree burns. The agency urges consumers to stop using the kettle immediately and dispose of it, and says not to sell or give it away. The importer had not agreed to an acceptable recall, according to the notice. Read the CPSC warning and identification details.
BLONGKY FCC 390 Pro: stop using and dispose of it
A November 20, 2025 CPSC warning covers BLONGKY portable electric car kettles, model FCC 390 Pro, in taupe or white. Steam or hot water may spew when the kettle is opened, and a failing lid mechanism can cause the top to open unexpectedly. CPSC reported at least 11 incidents and nine reports of burns, including one report of second-degree burns. It urges consumers to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it according to local hazardous-waste procedures; do not sell or give it away. The notice described online sales, including at Amazon.com and Walmart.com, for $17–$40 at that time. That is historical sales information, not current pricing or a measure of quality. Read the CPSC warning.

Unbranded black-and-red kettle: UK border rejection
On September 30, 2025, the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards reported that an unbranded black-and-red electric kettle posed a serious fire risk because its plug fuse was inadequately specified and could overheat or explode under fault conditions. The report also identified an electric-shock risk from accessible live parts. The import was rejected at the border and the product destroyed. This is a warning about that specific product and UK requirements, not a finding about every imported kettle. Read the UK product safety report.
T-fal power-plate action: check the product number and code
Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency lists a Group SEB Japan T-fal kettle power-plate replacement action that began September 16, 2025. Certain manufacturing lots could suffer power-cord damage under inappropriate cord use, potentially causing smoke or ignition near the outlet. The stated remedy is free power-plate replacement. The record lists 4,185,393 target units; this is the number covered by the action, not a count of confirmed defects or fires. If you are in scope, compare both the product number and four-digit manufacturing code with the official list and use its replacement process. Check the Consumer Affairs Agency record.

How to tell whether a kettle you own is affected
- Find its identifying details. Read the label for brand, model, product number, color or version, and any serial, lot, or manufacturing code. For the Japanese notices, production date or a four-digit manufacturing code may also matter.
- Compare the details with the official notice. Use the authority’s listed scope rather than relying on a similar-looking product or brand name. A recall may cover only particular models, variants, or production lots.
- Follow the stated action exactly. Some notices call for immediate stop-use and disposal; others provide a component replacement. These remedies are not interchangeable. Do not keep using a product while waiting for a remedy if its notice says to stop.
- Recheck current instructions in your country. Recall records and remedies can change. Consult the relevant authority’s current page before acting, especially if your label is incomplete or you are unsure whether your unit matches.
What hazards should make you pause before buying?
Official notices illustrate why “electric kettle” is not a single risk category. Unexpected pressure or a lid that opens can release hot water or steam and cause burns. A plug, fuse, cord, or accessible live parts can create fire or electric-shock hazards. A loose handle or failure in an overturning-water test raises separate concerns about mechanical integrity and spills.
- Identity and traceability: Can you read the model and relevant production codes, and can you check them against official notices?
- Electrical construction: Is the supplied plug appropriate for your region? Check for official findings involving plug, fuse, earthing, cord, or access to live parts.
- Containment: Is there a documented warning about pressurization, unexpected steam or water release, or a lid that may open?
- Mechanical integrity: Are there notices involving a loose handle or overturning-water test failure?
- Clear remedy: Does the notice say to stop using and dispose of the kettle, or offer a specific repair or replacement process?
These are screening questions, not a safety certification. A kettle absent from the examples—or from a notice you checked—has not thereby been proven safe. Applicable regional standards and current recall information still matter.

What “avoid buying” means in practice
Do not buy a product that matches an active official stop-use warning or is within a recall’s listed scope unless the authority’s notice explicitly explains a safe, completed remedy. If you already own one, do not resell or give it away when the notice prohibits that; follow the named disposal or replacement instructions. Conversely, a warning about one model or lot is not evidence that every kettle from that manufacturer has the same defect.
The notices here document specific hazards and responses, not a ranked list of safe replacement kettles. Before choosing another model, check its current status in the market where you will use it and verify that its exact identity is not within a current official action.
