That captured price is not a live offer or a guarantee for another platform or region. Check your platform’s store page for the current price and sale dates before buying. If you already own the expansion, the official PlayStation access instructions say to defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then interact with the withered arm at the cocoon in Mohg’s arena. They do not establish how NG+ affects difficulty or what level makes a character ready.
Is Shadow of the Erdtree discounted?
A discount cannot be confirmed from the official U.S. Steam listing captured for this article. It showed the standalone expansion at $39.99 and did not display a sale. Steam also listed the base game at $59.99 and the combined Shadow of the Erdtree Edition at $79.99. These are captured U.S. list prices, not a current offer; prices and promotions vary by storefront, region, and time. Check your own store page for the final price, discount, and expiration date.

Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion, not a standalone game. Steam states that the base game is required to play it. Its product description calls it “an expansion to ELDEN RING, the 2022 Game of the Year.” Steam store listing.
Do you need the base game?
Yes. If you do not already own Elden Ring on the platform where you intend to play, choose an edition that includes both the base game and the expansion. If you already own the base game on that platform, the standalone DLC is the relevant option. Ownership on one platform should not be assumed to cover another.

What should an NG+ player know?
The official access information confirms the boss requirements and the cocoon interaction, but does not explain whether NG+ changes DLC difficulty, whether starting a new journey resets either boss requirement, or what level or build counts as ready. Do not treat a particular level as an official guarantee, or assume NG+ is required or prevents entry. If you are planning around an existing save, confirm that both named bosses are defeated in the journey you intend to use, then check the in-game access point after installing the DLC.

No. Bandai Namco Europe announced on 28 August 2026 that ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition had arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 with the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, and that new content was available for existing players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The separate Tarnished Pack adds classes, gear, and Torrent appearance options; Steam describes two starting classes, new armor, and Torrent appearance customization usable in the base game and the expansion. It is an add-on, not a replacement for buying Shadow of the Erdtree. See the Bandai Namco Europe announcement and Steam announcement feed.
