El Al announced special flights from Dubai to Tel Aviv on October 1, 2026, to help return Israelis after flydubai suspended Israel service. The plan did not proceed as first announced: on October 2, El Al said its flights scheduled for that day had been canceled after approval for Israeli airlines to land in Dubai was withdrawn. The announcements describe a fast-changing situation, not flights that are currently confirmed or bookable.
What El Al announced on October 1
El Al said it planned special “rescue flights” from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The schedule reported that day named flight LY974, departing Dubai at 11:00, and an additional flight, LY972, at 13:00. El Al’s announcement, quoted in an October 1 AFP report, said: “Starting tomorrow (Friday): El Al will operate special rescue flights from Dubai to Tel Aviv.” Those were proposed departures subject to approvals, not a standing schedule. AFP report via NAMPA
Israel’s Transportation Ministry said Israeli carriers were preparing to fly to Dubai without passengers and return with Israelis whose original return travel was with flydubai. The ministry described the flights as subject to security authority approval and said it was coordinating with El Al, Arkia and Israir. The Jerusalem Post, October 1, 2026
Why the flights were proposed—and why the plan changed
The immediate trigger was flydubai’s suspension of flights to and from Israel after an onboard incident on Flight FZ1073, which made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The Associated Press reported that authorities were investigating the incident. Associated Press, October 2, 2026

On October 2, El Al said the flights it had planned for that day were canceled because approval for Israeli companies to land in Dubai had been withdrawn, according to Israeli authorities. The Times of Israel quoted the airline’s notice as saying it was “forced to cancel, at this stage, our rescue flights (LY974-1 LY972) for tomorrow, Friday, October 2.” The notice said flights planned for the following week remained scheduled at that time; that was a statement about the plan on October 2, not confirmation of the present schedule. The Times of Israel, October 2, 2026
What was reported about flights that did take off
Separately, the Associated Press reported on October 2 that a first repatriation flight had left the UAE shortly before 11 p.m. and landed in Tel Aviv shortly after 1 a.m. AP also reported that El Al was expected to fly passengers on Sunday. These details should not be conflated with El Al’s canceled flights scheduled for October 2, and they do not establish a current or continuing schedule. Associated Press, October 2, 2026

What the announced fares covered
El Al’s reported announcement-period fare was $249 one way, including one carry-on bag. Israel’s Transportation Ministry also reported an Israir fare of $299 on October 1 and emphasized fair pricing. These are prices reported for the announced operation at that time, not current quotes or evidence that seats remain available. The Jerusalem Post, October 1, 2026

The reports establish the October 1 proposal and October 2 cancellation notice, but they do not verify the present status of Dubai landing permissions, flight schedules, fares or seats. Anyone trying to return should check current notices directly with the airline and relevant authorities before traveling to an airport or relying on an earlier departure time. An announcement that a flight was planned is not a booking confirmation.
