Cutting performance and clipping management
Three ways to handle clippings
Collection is the tidy option when you want a finished lawn without visible cuttings. The supplied 55L bag reduces interruption compared with a smaller catcher, but capacity depends on how dense, damp or overgrown the grass is.
Rear discharge lets cuttings leave the mower behind you instead of filling the bag. It is useful where collecting every clipping is unnecessary, but the result can look less formal and may require a second pass if the discharge pattern is uneven.

Trying to mulch long, wet grass can overload a deck or leave clumps, so collection may be the better choice after a missed cut.
Seven height positions
The 20mm lowest setting is intended for a short finish, while 80mm provides a deliberately taller cut. The intermediate positions—27, 35, 45, 58 and 70mm—let you adjust for season, grass type and moisture. A sensible approach is to raise the height when growth is long, the weather is hot or the lawn is recovering, then lower it gradually rather than removing a large amount in one pass.

EGO’s current listing gives a 20mm minimum. A public CHOICE page shows slightly different cutting-width and low-height figures, which is a reminder that market, model-year or measurement conventions can differ. Use the specification on the product page for the exact regional kit you are considering.
Battery runtime and the 40-minute charging claim
EGO states that the included 5.0Ah battery can cut up to 800m² on one charge and that the supplied rapid charger takes it from 0% to 100% in 40 minutes. Both numbers are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed operating results or independent test findings.

“Up to” is important. The product page does not provide a precise grass height, moisture level, terrain profile, travel speed or self-propel setting for that area figure. Runtime normally falls when the mower works through dense growth, wet grass, tall settings that require heavy cutting, frequent stops, slopes or prolonged self-propel operation. Battery age, storage temperature and charge history also influence capacity. Because those variables are not quantified for this mower, no honest review can promise that every 800m² lawn will be completed on one charge.
The 40-minute figure describes an empty-to-full charge for the supplied battery under EGO’s stated charging conditions. A partially charged battery will not necessarily take a proportionally exact amount of time, and a pack that is hot from mowing may need to cool before charging. If your lawn is larger than your real-world single-charge range, a second compatible battery can reduce downtime, but its purchase cost and local availability are not established by the listing.
Is self-propulsion useful on slopes?
Self-propulsion directly addresses the hardest part of mowing an incline: pushing the mower’s mass uphill. EGO positions the LM1903E-SP for reducing effort on slopes, and its large wheels are intended to help it move through tight spaces and around trees. That is design intent rather than a promise that every gradient, surface or user will find it effortless.

On a sloped lawn, assess more than motor assistance:
- Traction: Damp grass, loose soil and leaves can reduce wheel grip even when the drive is engaged.
- Control: A self-propelled mower still needs you to steer, stop and turn safely. Keep both hands on the controls and avoid situations where a moving machine could run downhill unattended.
- Runtime: Climbing and continuous drive consume energy. EGO does not publish a slope-specific area estimate, so the 800m² headline should not be treated as an incline guarantee.
- Turning space: Powered wheels help on straight runs, but tight beds and tree rings still require frequent manoeuvring.
For a mostly flat lawn, self-propulsion is a convenience that may not justify extra weight or cost. For regular inclines, it can be the feature that makes a 47cm mower practical instead of exhausting, provided the operator can maintain secure footing and control.
Size, access and storage
The 47cm deck sits between compact and large domestic formats. It should cover open areas faster than a 42cm mower while remaining easier to thread between obstacles than a 50cm or 52cm deck. EGO specifically highlights manoeuvrability around trees and in tighter spaces, but the best fit depends on the actual gap between your beds, gates and paths.
At 25kg without the battery, the machine is not a lightweight push mower. Add the battery and any grass in the catcher when judging whether you can lift it into a car, carry it up steps or turn it in a confined shed. The benefit is that EGO says the mower folds upright for storage. The folded dimensions—915 × 511 × 408mm—give you a concrete check against a shelf or cupboard; allow additional clearance for the handle, charger and safe battery storage.
LED headlights may help when the lawn is shaded or daylight is fading, but they should not be used as a reason to mow when visibility, footing or local noise rules make conditions unsuitable.

CHOICE’s public product page identifies a 2020 test year and lists specifications including 56V, 5Ah, a claimed 40-minute charging time and supplied items. The public page therefore confirms that a test took place, but it does not support a numerical rating or a claim that the mower beat a particular rival.

These accounts illustrate why individual runtime and stall behaviour cannot be converted into a guarantee.
