Identify which design you have before you pull anything. Forcing a shelf that is not built to separate can crack the glass or damage the frame. Lift-out removal requires no tools. Separating the glass from its frame is only possible on shelves that have removable retainer clips.
Identify your shelf type first
Samsung’s published US support guidance describes two designs for the glass shelf above the crisper drawers. The removal method depends on which one you have.

Samsung notes that exact steps can vary by model. If your hardware does not match either design, consult the manual for your specific refrigerator model before continuing.

Removing a simple lift-out shelf
- Fully open both refrigerator doors.
- Remove the crisper drawers by pulling them straight out until they stop.
- Lift one side of the shelf while supporting the other side with your free hand.
- Slide the shelf out of the refrigerator opening, keeping it level.
Removing a complex shelf assembly
- Remove the lower door bins.
- Remove both crisper drawers. Samsung advises angling each drawer slightly toward the center while sliding it out.
- Locate the release tabs on either side of the drawer divider, near the water-filter housing and behind the roller wheels.
- Press and hold both tabs inward while supporting the water-filter housing with your other hand. Lift the shelf assembly out of the housing.
- Lift the rear edge slightly to free it from the refrigerator wall.
- Angle one side of the shelf downward and pull it out through the opening.
- Set the shelf on a clean, flat surface.
Separating the glass: only with retainer clips
Some shelves have two removable retainer clips at the back left and back right corners, where the glass meets the plastic frame. Check for these clips after the shelf is out of the refrigerator.

- Turn the shelf over onto a clean, flat surface.
- On each clip, press the tab nearest the center of the shelf while gently lifting the corresponding back corner.
- Remove both clips.
- Lift the glass out of the frame.
If your shelf has no removable clips, do not try to pry the glass out. Samsung states that some models are not designed to separate, and forcing them may damage the shelf.
If debris is trapped between glass and frame
For a shelf that cannot be separated, Samsung advises soaking the complete shelf in a water-and-bleach solution. Follow the label instructions on your cleaner and the precautions in your refrigerator manual. If the debris does not come out, Samsung says the shelf may need to be replaced rather than separated.

Cleaning and safety precautions
Samsung warns that glass shelves can break and cause injury. Its exact guidance is: never clean the glass shelf with warm or hot water, as this could cause the glass to shatter. Let a cold shelf reach room temperature, then wash it with lukewarm water.

- Hold the front of the shelf higher than the back.
- Engage the top hook in the top notch.
- Lower the shelf so the bottom hook enters its notch.
Before you reinstall the crisper drawers, confirm that the shelf is seated and does not rock. The drawers should slide freely without contacting the shelf.

If the glass is cracked or the retainer clips are broken, replacement is the only option Samsung describes. Samsung’s Gulf support article states that damaged retainer clips cannot be replaced individually and the full shelf assembly must be replaced. This is region-specific guidance, so confirm the part for your model and market.
