Eden Prairie police said shots were fired outside Aerie Stadium during Eden Prairie High School’s homecoming football game against Minnetonka on Friday, October 2, 2026. Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Attendees were evacuated as police responded; the reports available that night did not establish a suspect, motive or arrest.
What happened at the Eden Prairie homecoming game?
The game was underway when people on the field and in the stands were told to leave. Eden Prairie Schools initially described an emergency requiring a police response. Police later said they responded at about 8:40 p.m. to a report of shots fired outside Aerie Stadium, on the north side of the school. CBS Minnesota reported the district’s initial statement; its later report cited police on the shooting and injuries.

The district directed attendees to leave through the baseball diamonds or go to Round Lake Park for pickup and reunification. A Patch report citing a later district update said police had secured the area and there was no active threat in the area by 9:52 p.m. That was the status reported that night, not a guarantee about conditions after that update. Patch’s account of the district update includes the timing.

- Suspect or arrest: The cited initial coverage did not identify a suspect or report an arrest.
- Motive: The circumstances were still under investigation in the police account.
- Claims circulating online: The cited reports do not verify suspect identities, descriptions or community-group claims. Treat social posts as unconfirmed unless police or the district corroborate them.
- Game outcome: Bring Me The News reported the team announced a restart for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 3. That is an announced plan, not confirmation that play resumed. The report describes the scheduled restart.
What should families and attendees do?
Follow current instructions from Eden Prairie Schools, police and event organizers rather than relying on older posts or screenshots. The district’s emergency guidance advises families to stay home, stay informed and wait for reunification instructions; school leaders coordinate with police and may not be able to share details immediately while facts are being gathered and privacy requirements apply. The district distinguishes several response terms: a Hold keeps hallways clear while people remain in place; Secure keeps people inside because of activity outside; Lockdown is for an active threat and imminent danger when evacuation is unsafe; and Evacuate means leaving when it is no longer safe to remain inside. These terms describe different procedures and should not be treated as interchangeable. The district’s emergency management page explains them.
Statements from officials
During the evacuation, Eden Prairie Schools said, “There has been an emergency requiring a police response,” according to CBS Minnesota. In a written statement issued late Friday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said, “No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence,” the outlet reported.
