The ECM Casa V 80045AU is a compact single-boiler manual espresso machine with a roughly 2.8 L water tank, a steam wand, and brew pressure you set yourself. It has no built-in grinder, so a working home setup means buying a separate grinder as well. CHOICE currently lists this Australian model as discontinued, and its expert rating and test scores are members-only, so this article does not give an independent performance score.
What the Casa V 80045AU is
CHOICE lists the machine as “ECM Casa V 80045AU” and describes it as a manual espresso machine. ECM’s own manual identifies the same machine as the Casa V, item no. 80045. When you refer to the Australian listing, keep the 80045AU suffix. Before buying, confirm the voltage, plug type, warranty and exact model with the seller, because regional versions of the same machine can differ in those details.

The machine belongs to ECM’s Home Line. ECM’s Home Line overview classifies it as a single-boiler machine with a vibration pump, and its design is built around hands-on control rather than automation.

The weight difference between 14.0 kg and 13.8 kg is small, and it is most likely a measurement or listing convention. The dimensions are harder to reconcile: CHOICE’s order is height × width × depth, and its depth figure is shorter than ECM’s 370 mm. For planning a counter or cabinet, use ECM’s figures, and measure the depth with the portafilter fitted, which ECM puts at 410 mm.
How the machine works day to day
The Casa V gives you control over the parts of the process that automatic machines handle for you. The steps below describe what the machine’s design requires of its owner.
Heating and water
The brass boiler is insulated, and the reservoir holds approximately 2.8 L. The machine has a cup-warming tray, so you can keep cups warm while the shot runs. Because the boiler is small, you should expect to wait for it to reach temperature before brewing or steaming. The manufacturer’s brochure gives 5–7 minutes as a “very short heat up phase,” but that is ECM’s promotional claim. Jetblack’s listing gives a broader 5–15 minute range. Neither is an independent measurement, so plan around the wider range.

Brewing pressure
Brew pressure is adjusted manually, and a pump-pressure gauge shows the pump pressure while you work. CHOICE states a pump pressure of 8.5–12 bar, but ECM’s sheet does not give a number for the machine. Treat the bar range as CHOICE’s stated figure rather than a verified output.

- PRECISE ESPRESSO EXTRACTION: Digital temperature regulation (PID) delivers water at precisely the right temperature, so espresso coffee maker allows for precise espresso extraction
Steam and hot water
The steam wand and hot-water function have separate operating instructions in ECM’s manual. Milk texture depends on your technique and on the wand, not on any automatic setting. Both functions require you to manage the timing yourself. CHOICE’s measured milk-frothing and time-to-froth results are members-only, so no independent figure for frothing time appears here.
The grinder requirement
The Casa V has no built-in grinder. Jetblack’s listing shows “Built-in Grinder | No,” and ECM’s manual states: “For a perfect coffee result, a good espresso coffee machine and coffee grinder are as important as a good bean.” Budget for a separate espresso grinder before you buy the machine, and plan counter space for both appliances. With the portafilter fitted, the machine is 410 mm deep, so measure the space where the grinder will sit as well.
What comes in the box
Jetblack lists the following inclusions. Check them against the box you receive:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Single and double filter baskets
- Blind filter
- Tamper
- Group brush
- Manual
The tamper is included, so a replacement is an optional upgrade rather than a requirement. If you do buy one, Jetblack gives a nominal basket size of 58 mm and an ideal size of 58.55 mm. Check the diameter of your basket before you buy, and do not assume a tamper marked “58 mm” will fit without checking.

Setup and first use
ECM’s manual sets out the initial sequence. Follow the manual’s instructions for the boiler at first use, then work through these steps:
- Fill the water reservoir (approximately 2.8 L) and fill the boiler as the initial-use section of the manual describes.
- Flush the machine before you make the first coffee.
- Brew with the portafilter, starting from the grind and dose guidance in the next section.
- During daily use, flush about 300 ml, as the manual directs.
The manual also covers cleaning, brew-group maintenance and troubleshooting. Keep it with the machine, because the maintenance intervals and procedures are set out there rather than in the retailer listings.
Grind, dose and troubleshooting
ECM’s troubleshooting table lists five common causes of thin or weak crema:
Recommended Free Tools
- Grind too coarse
- Old coffee
- Chlorine in the water
- Unsuitable dose
- Dirty shower screen
In those troubleshooting cases, the manual recommends around 7–9 g per cup. This is ECM’s troubleshooting guidance, not an independent recipe test and not a universal dose for every bean. The manual also tells you to adjust the grind when you change beans, so expect to re-dial the grinder with each new bag.

Cleaning, descaling and supplies
ECM’s manual lists a blind-filter brew-group detergent (manufacturer item numbers PAV9001034 or 89450) and a descaling powder (PAV9001040) as recommended supplies. These item numbers come from the manual. They are not a guarantee of current stock, so confirm them with your supplier. Not every espresso cleaner is suitable for this machine. Use products that the manual names, or check with ECM before substituting.

Best Value
- 20 Bar Pump + 1350W Heating – Start Faster, Brew with More Control 20 Bar Pump + 1350W Heating – Start Faster, Brew with More Control: The pump sends pressurized hot water through finely ground coffee, while the heating system reduces the wait before brewing. With the right grind, dose, and tamp, a typical espresso shot runs for about 25–30 seconds once preheated, making single or double shots easier to prepare at home.
- 3–10s Pre-Infusion – Help Water Reach the Grounds More Evenly: Choose a pre-infusion time from 3 to 10 seconds to gently wet the coffee before extraction begins. When switching beans, roast levels, or grind sizes, this added control helps water move more evenly through the grounds and makes shot results easier to adjust.
- Built-In Grinder with 20 Settings – Grind and Brew in One Machine: Choose from 20 grind settings to match different beans, roast levels, and espresso recipes. Whether trying a new bag of coffee or adjusting how quickly the shot flows, the built-in grinder keeps grinding and brewing in one setup, saving counter space and preparation time.
- 3-Level PID Control, 197–205°F – Adjust Heat to Your Coffee: Choose from three brewing temperatures to match different roast levels and flavor preferences. Adjust the temperature for straight espresso, milk drinks, or iced espresso drinks, while PID control helps keep the water temperature steadier so each cup is easier to repeat.
- Steam Wand for Lattes & Cappuccinos – Make Milk Drinks at Home: Use the steam wand to heat and texture milk for lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk-based drinks. With the grinder, espresso brewer, and steam wand combined in one machine, you can prepare morning coffee or drinks for guests without adding separate appliances.

No named reviewer quote or independent product test for the Casa V was identified, so this article does not offer a performance verdict.
How it compares within ECM’s Home Line
ECM’s Home Line overview includes more than one machine. A fair comparison needs to look at the following differences, which the overview shows:
- Boiler arrangement: single boiler, heat exchanger or dual boiler
- Temperature control: the Casa V has no PID listed, while some other ECM models in the overview do
- Pump type: vibration or rotary
- Brew pressure: manually adjustable on the Casa V
- Footprint and weight
- Water supply: tank-only, or a fixed water connection on some models
- Current local price, warranty and service
The overview is the source for design differences. It does not show current prices, so compare prices from current sellers. The overview also does not establish which model performs better, so avoid treating these design differences as a performance ranking.
Who the Casa V 80045AU suits
- A buyer who wants direct control over brewing and steaming, and is willing to learn that control, is the clearest fit.
- A buyer who already owns a good grinder, or who budgets for one, and has counter space for both machines.
- A buyer who can confirm current stock, a valid warranty and service access in their region, given the discontinued listing.
A buyer who wants a built-in grinder, automated milk texturing, or a model with a documented independent test score should look elsewhere, or at least wait for independent results to become available.
