What happens when Ian returns to Walford?
A report published on 2 October 2026 says Ian withdraws from his family as they prepare to welcome him home. His time in prison has left him struggling to reconnect, and the welcome drinks at The Vic become too much: he leaves the pub overwhelmed.

Why do Ian and Harvey fall out?
Harvey Monroe is trying to help Kathy prepare for Ian’s return while also juggling other responsibilities. He cleans the chippy ahead of an inspection and agrees to look after Lily Slater’s daughter, Charli, so Lily can attend a career open day. Harvey misses the inspection, and when Ian finds out, the two argue at The Vic.

Ian later finds graffiti on the chippy. Ned joins him in cleaning it, offering practical help at a moment when Ian is having trouble coping with life back in Walford. Ned also encourages Ian to talk about the night of the accident, pointing him toward the difficult conversation he has been avoiding.
