Verdict: EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2026 is a broad Windows backup suite rather than a single-purpose image utility. It combines system, disk and partition imaging with file backups, synchronization, cloning and recovery tools. In a PCWorld test by contributor Jon L. Jacobi, a 700GB image took about 13 minutes when fast compression was used and the image was written to a second internal NVMe SSD. That is an impressive result for that exact setup, but it is not a speed guarantee for every PC, drive or destination.
The more important buying question is whether you need Home-specific features, how you will store and verify backups, and whether you can work around a few usability issues reported in the same review. The guide below explains the measured performance, editions, prices, workflows, recovery precautions and situations in which the free edition may be enough.

What EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2026 does
Todo Backup is designed to cover several jobs that are often split across separate Windows utilities:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- System imaging: capture Windows, installed applications, settings and boot data in an image that can be restored after a drive failure or unusable installation.
- Disk and partition imaging: protect an entire physical disk or selected partitions rather than individual documents.
- File and folder backup: select specific working folders for recurring protection and individual-file recovery.
- Synchronization: keep selected folders aligned between locations, subject to the folder-availability issue described later.
- Cloning and system transfer: copy a disk to another drive, including a migration to a smaller SSD when the used data fits.
- Recovery tools: restore a complete image, retrieve individual files, and use boot or pre-OS recovery options when Windows will not start.
The vendor lists Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 support. Listed destinations include internal and external HDDs and SSDs, USB drives, FTP servers, network shares, NAS devices and DVDs. NAS support is specifically listed among the 2026 changes. Those are vendor-described capabilities; check the current edition comparison before assuming every destination or recovery option is included in a particular license.

The 700GB image test: what 13 minutes actually means
PCWorld contributor Jon L. Jacobi reported that Todo Backup created a 700GB image in around 13 minutes. The test used the program’s fast compression algorithm and wrote the image to a second internal NVMe SSD. Jacobi compared that run with R-Drive Image, which took more than half an hour for the same task on the same test system.
This is a useful indication of what a fast, local NVMe-to-NVMe workflow can look like, not a universal benchmark. Actual duration changes with the amount of used data, source-drive read speed, destination-drive write speed, compression mode, processor load, encryption or verification settings, USB or network bandwidth, and whether the destination is busy. A 700GB drive containing relatively little used data can also produce a smaller image than a nearly full drive.
| Reported task | Result | Conditions and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| System image | About 13 minutes | 700GB image, fast compression, second internal NVMe SSD; PCWorld contributor Jon L. Jacobi, August 11, 2026 |
| System-drive clone | 26 minutes | 700GB system drive in the same review; reviewer-specific observation |
| File-and-folder restore | Estimated 16 hours | 600GB restore estimate in the review; the author recommends file mode for relatively small sets |
The contrast between the quick image and the estimated file restore matters. Imaging is generally the sensible way to protect a whole operating-system installation, while file mode is more practical when you only need a modest set of documents or project folders. The 16-hour figure is an estimate from one review, not a product limit or a promise that every file restore will be slow.

| Need | Todo Backup capability | Decision note |
|---|---|---|
| Recover a complete Windows installation | System image backup and full image recovery | Keep the image on a separate device or location from the source disk. |
| Protect a secondary data disk | Disk or partition backup | Useful when folder selection would miss hidden or application-managed data. |
| Protect selected documents | File and folder backup | Best for smaller data sets and individual-file restores. |
| Keep two folders aligned | Synchronization jobs | Test the direction and folder existence before relying on unattended sync. |
| Move Windows to a new drive | Disk cloning and system transfer | Review source and destination carefully; cloning overwrites the destination. |
| Store locally | Internal or external HDD/SSD, USB drive and DVD destinations | Local storage is fast, but a second device is needed for protection from source-drive failure. |
| Store over a network | Network shared location, FTP server and NAS | NAS support is listed as a 2026 addition; throughput depends on the network. |
| Use cloud storage | Cloud-image storage is described in support documentation | Confirm the current plan, storage allowance and retention terms. |
Free versus Home and business editions
EaseUS offers a Free edition for personal use on one computer, a Home consumer edition, and separate business editions. The support documentation describes Home as adding capabilities such as dynamic-volume backup and cloning, system transfer and Outlook backup. It also describes scheduled jobs, Smart Backup monitoring at half-hour intervals and cloud-image storage. Because feature matrices can change, use the current edition-comparison page to verify a feature before purchasing.
| Edition family | What the published material establishes | Who should investigate it |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Personal use on one computer | Users who need basic protection and can live without Home-only functions. |
| Home | Consumer license with additional functions including dynamic-volume backup and cloning, system transfer and Outlook backup, according to support documentation | Home users migrating drives, protecting advanced Windows layouts or needing the broader consumer feature set. |
| Workstation, Server, Advanced Server and Technician | Separate business plans are listed by the official comparison page | Organizations should select a plan based on machine type, deployment rights and support requirements. |
Do not assume that a Free installation can be used on multiple personal PCs, or that a Home license covers business deployment. Check the license wording at checkout and retain the order details.

Pricing is page-specific, so verify checkout
Official EaseUS pages displayed different Home offers. The comparison page listed $39.95 for one year, $59.95 for a current license and $79.95 for lifetime. The broad product page showed a $79.95 promotional display. PCWorld’s August 11, 2026 review described another snapshot: $39.95 yearly, $59.99 perpetual and $79.99 with lifetime upgrades, plus a separately discussed cloud-storage bundle.
| Listing | Displayed Home offer | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Official comparison page | $39.95 one year; $59.95 current license; $79.95 lifetime | Page-specific figures; currency and offer should be confirmed for your region. |
| Official product page | $79.95 promotional display | Promotional presentation, not proof of a permanent price. |
| PCWorld review snapshot, August 11, 2026 | $39.95 yearly; $59.99 perpetual; $79.99 with lifetime upgrades | Dated editorial snapshot that differs slightly from the comparison page. |
These figures are not one global price list. Taxes, currency conversion, renewal terms, upgrade rights and bundled cloud storage can change the total. At checkout, confirm whether the purchase is a recurring subscription, a perpetual license for a stated version, or a lifetime-upgrade license, and check how many computers it covers.
Before creating your first image
A backup is only useful if it can be found and restored. Prepare the job before clicking Start:
- Choose a destination that is independent of the source disk. An internal second SSD, external drive, NAS or other location is preferable to another folder on C:.
- Make sure the destination has more free space than the expected image, plus room for subsequent full, incremental or differential jobs if you plan to retain history.
- Connect laptops to AC power and prevent sleep or drive disconnection during the first full image.
- Decide whether you need a complete system image, selected files, a clone, or a synchronization job. They solve different problems.
- Prepare bootable or pre-OS recovery media before an emergency, and test that the computer can start from it.
- After the first backup, browse the image or perform a small test restore so you know the destination, password and recovery process work.
How to create a separate system image
- Open Todo Backup and choose the system, disk or partition backup workflow rather than file backup.
- Select the Windows system volume and any boot or recovery partitions the program identifies. Review the source list before proceeding.
- Set the destination to a different physical device or network location. Do not accept a path on the source disk merely because it is the default.
- Choose a compression level. Fast compression is the setting used for the reported 13-minute result; stronger compression may trade time for a smaller image.
- Configure a schedule if you need recurring protection. Select full, incremental or differential behavior only after deciding how many restore points you can retain.
- Start the job and watch the first run for errors, disconnections or unexpectedly low free space.
- When it finishes, record the destination and image date, then use the program’s browse or restore-test function to confirm that files are visible.
- Create or update bootable recovery media and test booting from it while the original Windows installation still works.
For a desktop with a second internal NVMe SSD, this workflow resembles Jacobi’s test conditions. It will not reproduce 13 minutes on every machine, particularly when the destination is a USB hard disk, network share or cloud target.
File backups, schedules and Smart Backup
Use file-and-folder mode when the selection is narrow: work documents, photos, source code or a small project archive. It makes individual-file recovery straightforward and avoids imaging an entire operating system for a few folders. For hundreds of gigabytes, however, the review’s estimated 16-hour restore illustrates why an image or disk-level method may be more practical for a complete recovery.

- Easily store and access 1TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive.Specific uses: Personal
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop. Reformatting may be required for Mac

Support documentation describes scheduled jobs and Smart Backup monitoring at half-hour intervals. Treat that interval as monitoring behavior, not an instantaneous mirror. The review also says real-time backup sometimes took a couple of minutes to reflect changes. If a file must be protected immediately, manually start a job or verify that the change has appeared before disconnecting the destination.

Use synchronization only after testing both endpoints. Jacobi reported warnings for My Pictures, My Videos and My Music when those folders were absent at either end. The author said the problem persisted across at least two versions. Create the expected folders, confirm the direction of synchronization and run a small test set before adding a large personal library.
Cloning and moving to a smaller SSD
Cloning is for making a bootable copy or replacing a drive, not for maintaining a historical backup set. Choose the source disk and destination disk explicitly, because the destination is overwritten. Disconnecting other removable drives can reduce selection mistakes.
In the PCWorld review, cloning a 700GB system drive took 26 minutes. The reviewer also reported that Todo Backup resized partitions while cloning from a 2TB SSD to a 1TB SSD. That indicates the software can adapt a layout when the used data fits, but it does not guarantee that every partition arrangement, encryption state or recovery configuration will migrate cleanly. Back up the original drive first, keep it untouched until the new drive boots, and verify Windows, applications and personal files before repurposing the source.
Recovery: full image versus individual files
Full system recovery
Use full recovery when the Windows installation or source disk is unusable. Start from the program’s bootable or pre-OS environment, select the image stored on the independent destination, choose the target disk and review the partition map before confirming. A restore replaces data on the target, so disconnecting unrelated drives and checking capacity are sensible precautions.

Individual-file recovery
Use image browsing or file-backup restore when only a document or folder is missing. This avoids replacing the operating system and lets you recover to a temporary location for inspection. Preserve the original path when application settings depend on it, but restore to a separate folder first if you are unsure which version is correct.
After recovery
Boot Windows, check disk letters and partition sizes, open representative documents, and confirm that scheduled jobs still point to the intended destination. A successful restore is not complete until the applications and files you actually need have been opened.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Reliability and usability caveats reported in testing
Destination selection
On one system, the reviewer saw a full C: backup select C:My Backups as the destination. The issue did not recur on a second system, but it demonstrates why destination review is mandatory. A folder on the source disk cannot protect you from that disk’s failure. Check the physical device, not just the folder name, before every new system-image job.
Synchronization warnings
Missing standard folders caused warnings in sync jobs. If your profile does not contain My Pictures, My Videos or My Music, decide whether the warning reflects an intentional omission or a misconfigured source. Do not ignore repeated warnings in an unattended job.

Real-time delay
Changes were sometimes reflected after a couple of minutes rather than immediately. Real-time language should therefore be read as near-real-time monitoring in the observed behavior. For work that cannot be recreated, use a confirmed manual backup in addition to monitoring.
How the 2026 changes affect a buying decision
EaseUS says the 2026 release improved backup-image processing, added NAS device support, resolved OneDrive and Windows 11 backup issues, fixed game-save restoration issues, and addressed cloning errors and boot issues. These are vendor statements about the release. The PCWorld review still found sync and interface problems, so the update list should not be treated as proof that every workflow is trouble-free.
NAS support can make a useful destination for a desktop or home server, but network throughput and NAS configuration determine practical speed. If fast local imaging is your priority, the 13-minute result points toward a second internal NVMe SSD or similarly fast local target; it does not establish a tested model or justify one particular drive.
Recommended Free Tools
Who should choose Home 2026?
Home is a strong fit when you need
- A single application for system images, file backups, cloning, synchronization and recovery.
- Drive migration or cloning features associated with the Home edition.
- Protection for dynamic volumes, Outlook data or system transfer, subject to current edition confirmation.
- Scheduled jobs and a broader destination mix than a basic file-copy routine.
- A local image workflow where a fast SSD destination can reduce backup time.
Look carefully before paying when you need
- Only occasional copies of a few folders; the Free edition may cover the personal, one-computer scenario described by support documentation.
- Business deployment, server workloads or technician use; those require the separate business plans and license terms.
- Instant file mirroring; the observed monitoring delay and sync warnings require testing first.
- A hands-off system-image process; destination selection must be checked manually, especially after updates or on a new PC.
A practical decision checklist
- List the computers and decide whether use is personal or business.
- Choose the recovery goal: complete Windows restore, file recovery, drive migration or folder synchronization.
- Pick an independent destination and estimate capacity for several restore points.
- Compare Free and Home features on the current official matrix, then compare business editions if applicable.
- Check the live regional checkout price, renewal language and upgrade rights instead of relying on an older displayed offer.
- Run a small backup and restore test before committing irreplaceable data.
- Schedule recurring jobs, monitor warnings and periodically boot the recovery media.
Bottom line
EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2026 earns attention because one reviewer produced a 700GB image in about 13 minutes with fast compression to a second internal NVMe SSD. It also offers an unusually broad set of Windows backup, cloning and recovery functions in one package. The result is compelling for users who have a fast independent destination and want a single tool for both migration and disaster recovery.
Buy it for the workflow, not the headline number. Confirm that Home includes the features you need, verify the current regional price, keep system images off the source disk, test synchronization and recovery, and remember that the reported speed, 26-minute clone and 16-hour file-restore estimate are observations from one PCWorld review setup rather than guarantees.
