EA has not announced that it is canceling its college football video game series. Why NIL payments could affect future games

The earlier arrangement was reported as $600 per participating player plus a free copy of the game. That is a reported prior compensation structure—not a confirmed current rate, a per-player figure for every athlete in College Football 27, or the game’s total NIL bill.

EA’s 2021 announcement with the Collegiate Licensing Company described EA as the exclusive developer of simulation college-football video game experiences. That partnership helps explain how university and athlete participation fit into the series, but it does not guarantee a particular release schedule.

EA announced that College Football 27 launched worldwide on July 9, 2026, describing the release as part of the franchise’s “record-breaking return.” The launch makes the series active as of October 13, 2026; it does not settle how many future installments EA will fund.

EA’s beta notice listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the EA app and Steam. EA’s launch materials also referenced mobile, but the information available here does not specify the mobile release’s availability or how it compares with the listed console and PC versions.
An SEC-filed document about EA’s collegiate activations around College Football 26 describes university-branded content, student-athlete participation and an NIL engagement strategy. It illustrates that collegiate relationships involve more than a single player-payment figure, but it does not disclose total costs for College Football 27.

Did EA remove paid progression?
Yes. College Football 27 launched with paid progression options in Road to Glory and Online Dynasty. After player backlash, EA removed those options on July 11, 2026, according to Insider Gaming. EA’s explanation, reproduced in that report, said: “Your feedback on Road to Glory and Dynasty is that we’ve missed the mark with the introduction of paid progression options.”
