An audience member called M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film Remain a “masterpiece” and “a perfect companion to The Sixth Sense for a double feature” after a surprise screening at Beyond Fest. Those are first reactions from a small, invited screening—not a critics’ consensus or a poll of moviegoers.
What prompted the early praise?
The screening followed a Q&A for The Sixth Sense at Beyond Fest. Shyamalan later posted, “I surprised 1,400 people with my new film, it was something I’ll never forget,” as quoted by GamesRadar+. The 1,400 figure is Shyamalan’s stated count; the report does not independently verify attendance.

What did viewers say about Remain?
The reaction that supplied the “masterpiece” and double-feature language read: “I do not say this lightly: M. Night Shyamalan’s new film, Remain, is a masterpiece. a perfect companion to The Sixth Sense for a double feature and a moving, frightening, and beautiful film on its own.” GamesRadar+ attributed the post to an audience member who attended the screening.

- Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis brings a powerful presence to an edge-of-your-seat thriller from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan that critics are calling one of the greatest ghost stories ever filmed.
Actor Luke Barnett wrote: “REMAIN is going to crush. A great reminder that nobody does ‘fun, movie theater horror’ like M. Night. Has the humor of Signs with tight emotional ghosty story of Sixth Sense. Lot of great scares. See it big and loud when it comes out.”
Writer Will Landman posted: “Haven’t stopped thinking about #Remain after it tore the house down at @BeyondFest – he’s making choices in this film that evoke other experimental directors that has me extremely excited for people to see it. The shot design is some of his very best and every choice feels so intentional.” These comments offer impressions of tone, scares, and visual style—not a substitute for a review after wider release.

Why compare it with The Sixth Sense?
The comparison has a clear screening-night context: the surprise showing came after a Q&A for The Sixth Sense. Beyond Fest’s retrospective announcement identifies The Sixth Sense as a 1999 Shyamalan film and describes its themes as grief, connection, mortality, and unseen forces shaping the living. The festival schedule lists a 107-minute screening.

That context helps explain why one viewer suggested pairing the films. The comparison is not evidence that Remain is a sequel, shares a story with The Sixth Sense, or has been officially positioned as a companion film. The comments support only subjective parallels: supernatural or ghost-story elements, emotional weight, horror and scares, humor, and romance.
