EarFun OpenJump is an open-ear wireless earbud with flexible ear hooks, a 14.2 mm wool-composite driver in each side, LDAC support and a companion app. EarFun rates it for up to 11 hours per charge (42 hours including the case) with LDAC disabled, or 8 hours (30.5 hours total) with LDAC enabled. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent battery measurements.
The more important question is fit. OpenJump leaves the ear canal open, which lets you hear your surroundings and avoids the plugged-up sensation of in-ear headphones. Scarbir liked its sound and feature set but found the design potentially tricky for runs and demanding workouts. TechRadar was more critical of its sound against other open-ear models, while Android Central reported a broadly positive feature-and-value impression. In other words, OpenJump looks strongest as an everyday open-ear pair and a moderate-activity option, not as a guaranteed choice for every runner.

EarFun OpenJump at a glance
OpenJump sits over the ear rather than sealing inside it. Its flexible hooks hold the earbuds around the outer ear, while the speakers aim sound toward the ear canal. That makes it fundamentally different from sealed in-ear earbuds: outside sound remains audible, and there is no silicone tip creating an acoustic seal.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Type: open-ear, ear-hook wireless earbuds
- Drivers: 14.2 mm wool-composite, according to EarFun
- Bluetooth: version 5.3
- Codecs: LDAC and SBC
- Battery rating: up to 11 hours per charge and 42 hours with the case using SBC; up to 8 hours and 30.5 hours total with LDAC, according to EarFun
- Water resistance: IPX7 for the earbuds; EarFun says the charging case is not waterproof
- Connections: dual-device (multipoint) connection and Google Fast Pair are advertised by EarFun
- Controls: app customization, equalizer controls and a low-latency game mode advertised at under 50 milliseconds
- Microphones: four, according to the manufacturer
That combination gives OpenJump a broad feature list for its category. The trade-off is that open-ear hardware cannot isolate you from noise in the way a sealed earbud with active noise cancellation can, and the hook geometry may suit walking and desk use better than high-impact movement for some ears.

Design and fit: what open-ear means in practice
The ear canal stays open
OpenJump does not sit in the ear canal. The speaker rests outside it, and the flexible hook loops around the ear. You can therefore hear traffic, announcements and people nearby without removing an earbud. That is useful for commuting, office work, parenting and outdoor activity where situational awareness matters.
The same design changes how you judge comfort and sound. There is no ear-tip seal to lock the bass in or anchor the earbuds. Placement relative to your ear matters: a small shift can change loudness, bass and perceived balance more than it would with a sealed in-ear model. Listeners who dislike pressure inside the canal may find this approach more comfortable, while listeners who want a firm, sealed fit may prefer conventional in-ear earbuds.
Flexible hooks and stability
EarFun describes the hooks as flexible and uses soft materials in its description of the product. In a favorable fit, the hook distributes pressure over the outer ear rather than relying on a tight ear-tip. Head size, ear shape, glasses frames and hair can all affect how that pressure feels.
Scarbir awarded OpenJump four stars and praised its sound and feature set, but specifically warned that the design may be tricky for runs or challenging workouts. Treat that as a reviewer experience, not a universal failure: open-ear hooks can feel secure for one person and shift for another. If running is your main use, buy from a seller with a clear return policy and test the fit during the movements you actually perform before relying on the earbuds for long sessions.
How to position the earbuds
- Place the hook behind the ear without twisting it tightly.
- Position the speaker so it sits just outside the ear canal, not pressed into the opening.
- Move the hook slightly forward or backward until voices and music are balanced between both sides.
- Walk, turn your head and open your jaw. If the sound changes dramatically or the hook slides, adjust the position before increasing the volume.
Because the ear canal is open, raising the volume to overcome traffic or gym noise reduces the main safety advantage of the design. In loud surroundings, move to a quieter position rather than assuming a higher setting will behave like an isolated in-ear earbud.
Sound quality: a split verdict from reviewers
EarFun equips OpenJump with 14.2 mm wool-composite drivers and advertises better bass than smaller clip-on headphones. That sentence is a corporate product claim, not an independent measurement. A larger driver does not by itself guarantee deeper bass; open-air acoustics, placement and the listener’s ear shape all influence the result.

Scarbir’s May 8, 2025 review was positive about the sound and feature set. TechRadar, reviewing the same product category, was more critical when comparing OpenJump’s sound with competing open-ear models. Tom’s Guide’s surfaced review also discusses fit and sound relative to alternatives, while Android Central’s surfaced review is broadly positive about the overall product, including sound and high-resolution wireless audio. These accounts do not establish a single consensus ranking.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWhat LDAC changes
OpenJump supports LDAC as well as SBC. LDAC can carry more audio data than SBC when both the phone and the active Bluetooth connection support it, but the practical result depends on the source device, signal conditions and the recording itself. A phone may fall back to SBC if LDAC is unavailable or unstable. LDAC also reduces the manufacturer’s battery estimate from 11 to 8 hours per charge.
Use LDAC when your phone supports it and you value the setting enough to accept shorter runtime. For podcasts, calls and ordinary streaming, SBC may be the simpler choice. The codec is not a substitute for a good physical fit: if the speaker is not aligned with your ear, changing codecs will not correct the tonal imbalance.
Open-ear limits in noisy places
OpenJump leaves both ears exposed to the environment. That is the point for awareness, but it means a train, busy road or loud gym can mask detail. You do not get the isolation of sealed in-ear headphones, and Scarbir lists no active noise cancellation. If your priority is maximum detail in a noisy office or aircraft cabin, an open-ear model is solving a different problem rather than offering a weaker version of a noise-isolating earbud.
Features and controls
Multipoint and Fast Pair
EarFun advertises dual-device (multipoint) connectivity and Google Fast Pair. Multipoint is useful when you move between a phone and a computer: a call on the phone can take priority while the earbuds remain connected to the computer. Actual switching behavior depends on the two devices and their operating systems, so test your particular combination rather than assuming every app will hand off perfectly.

App equalizer and customization
The companion app provides EQ and control customization according to EarFun. Use the EQ to make modest changes after the earbuds are positioned correctly. Save a profile for speech or podcasts if the app allows it, and another for music, but remember that the open-ear presentation will still differ from a sealed earbud’s sound.
Game mode and microphones
EarFun advertises a low-latency game mode below 50 milliseconds and four microphones. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent latency or call-quality test results. Game mode can reduce the delay between an on-screen event and the sound you hear, but wireless latency varies with the phone, game and connection. Four microphones can support voice pickup and noise processing, yet the number alone does not establish how clearly callers will hear you in wind or traffic.
No active noise cancellation in the independent feature list
Scarbir’s feature list includes no ANC. OpenJump’s open-ear architecture also leaves the canal unsealed, so it should not be purchased with the expectation of an immersive noise-cancelling effect. The product’s purpose is to combine personal audio with awareness of nearby sound.
Battery, charging and the case
EarFun publishes two different endurance ratings because LDAC changes power use:
| Use condition | Earbuds per charge | Total with charging case |
|---|---|---|
| LDAC disabled | Up to 11 hours | Up to 42 hours |
| LDAC enabled | Up to 8 hours | Up to 30.5 hours |
These are maximum manufacturer figures. They are not a controlled battery test from the independent reviews cited here. Volume, connection distance, microphone use, temperature and other settings can reduce actual runtime.
Each earbud has a listed 60 mAh battery, and the case has a listed 550 mAh capacity. EarFun says charging the earbuds takes one hour, charging the case through USB-C takes two hours, and charging with a wireless charger takes three and a half hours.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
There is a source discrepancy worth noting: Scarbir’s review lists no wireless charging, while EarFun’s product specification gives a wireless-charging time. Check the exact case and current product documentation at purchase if wireless charging is important to you. Do not assume that a wireless-charging time in the specification means the case is waterproof.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Water resistance and workout use
EarFun rates the earbuds IPX7 and explicitly says the charging case is not waterproof. Keep the two parts separate: the rating applies to the earbuds, not the case. Do not take the case into a shower, leave it in wet clothing or charge it while damp.
For exercise, OpenJump makes the most sense when you want awareness and a non-sealing fit. Walking, commuting and moderate gym sessions are plausible use cases. Scarbir’s caution about runs and challenging workouts means stability should be treated as a personal test, not an assumption based only on the IPX7 rating. Sweat resistance does not guarantee that the hooks will stay put during sprinting, jumping or repeated head movement.
- Charge the earbuds and case fully before the first long session.
- Fit the hooks while stationary, then test head turns, brisk walking and the specific movements in your workout.
- Keep the case in a dry bag or locker, away from sweat and rain.
- After exercise, wipe the earbuds dry before returning them to the case.

How to set up OpenJump
- Charge first: Put both earbuds in the case and charge the case over USB-C. If your package supports it and you prefer that method, use a compatible wireless charger, keeping the case dry.
- Enter pairing mode: Open the case and follow the quick-start instructions supplied with the earbuds. Keep the earbuds close to the phone or computer during first pairing.
- Pair through Bluetooth: Open your device’s Bluetooth settings, select EarFun OpenJump and confirm the connection. On a compatible Android phone, Google Fast Pair may display a prompt instead.
- Install the companion app: Use the app to inspect available firmware, remap controls and adjust EQ. App menus can change with software versions, so use the labels shown on your device.
- Choose a codec: If your phone exposes an LDAC option, enable it only when you want it and accept the shorter battery estimate. Otherwise, leave the connection on its default supported codec.
- Test multipoint: Connect a second device, play audio on one and place a test call on the other. If switching is unreliable, disconnect unused devices and pair them again one at a time.
- Configure game mode only when needed: Turn it on for games where delay matters, then turn it off for ordinary listening if you prefer the normal connection behavior.
Common problems and practical fixes
The earbuds sound weak or unbalanced
Reposition both speakers before changing EQ. Because there is no ear-tip seal, a few millimeters can alter the bass and volume. Check that both earbuds are using the same codec and that neither side is partly blocked by hair, a hat or glasses.
Battery life is much shorter than the rating
Confirm whether LDAC is enabled; EarFun’s maximum falls from 11 to 8 hours per charge when it is. High volume, calls, game mode and microphone activity can also reduce runtime. Charge the case fully and inspect the charging contacts for dirt or moisture.
Multipoint will not switch reliably
Forget OpenJump on both source devices, restart Bluetooth, then pair the primary device first and the second device afterward. Keep only the devices you need connected during testing. If the problem persists, check the app for a firmware update and follow its on-screen instructions.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The earbuds disconnect or one side drops out
Keep the source device nearby, turn off unused Bluetooth connections and make sure both earbuds are seated correctly in the case while charging. Re-pair after removing the old Bluetooth entry. If one earbud still fails to connect after a full charge and clean contacts, use the reset procedure in EarFun’s supplied manual rather than guessing at a button sequence.
The case was exposed to water
Remove the earbuds, dry the case thoroughly and do not charge it until every contact and port is dry. IPX7 applies to the earbuds, not the case.
OpenJump compared with other open-ear choices
The useful comparison is not a list of unverified “best” alternatives. Open-ear products use different attachment methods, and a clip, hook or neckband can behave very differently during movement. When comparing OpenJump with another model, check these points in the same order:
Recommended Free Tools
| Decision factor | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Attachment | Ear hook versus clip or another structure | Determines pressure, glasses compatibility and movement stability. |
| Activity | Walking, desk work, gym training or running | A comfortable everyday fit may still shift during impact. |
| Codec support | LDAC, SBC and your phone’s compatibility | Controls available audio modes and can affect endurance. |
| Battery claim | Per-charge and case totals, with codec stated | Prevents an LDAC figure from being mistaken for the SBC maximum. |
| Protection | Separate ratings for earbuds and case | A water-resistant earbud does not make its charging case waterproof. |
| Price | Current local price at the time you buy | No stable current price was established here, and promotions change. |
OpenJump’s differentiators are the ear-hook form, LDAC, multipoint, app controls and the manufacturer’s long SBC battery claim. Its main uncertainties are personal workout stability, the subjective sound comparison and the conflicting reports about wireless charging.
Who should buy EarFun OpenJump?
A good match
- You want to hear surrounding traffic, colleagues or announcements while listening.
- You dislike silicone tips or pressure inside the ear canal.
- You use an Android phone that can take advantage of Google Fast Pair and potentially LDAC.
- You want app EQ, multipoint and a gaming mode rather than a minimalist earbud.
- Your primary activities are desk work, commuting, walking or moderate exercise.
Look elsewhere if
- You need strong isolation or active noise cancellation for aircraft, trains or very loud gyms.
- You require a guaranteed secure fit for sprinting or high-impact training.
- You expect the manufacturer’s maximum battery figure in every codec and volume condition.
- You need a waterproof charging case.
- You want a definitive sound-quality winner based on consensus; the independent reviews disagree in their comparisons.
Verdict
EarFun OpenJump is a feature-rich open-ear earbud whose strongest case is everyday listening with environmental awareness. The manufacturer provides an attractive specification—14.2 mm drivers, LDAC, multipoint, app controls, IPX7 earbuds and up to 11 hours of SBC playback—but those numbers are claims rather than independent test results. Reviewer feedback supports the feature set and, in Scarbir’s case, the sound, while TechRadar is more critical against competing open-ear designs. Fit is the deciding variable: test the hooks for your actual activity, especially running, and keep the non-waterproof case dry.
