With DeVonta Smith ruled out by a hamstring injury, Dontayvion Wicks is expected to be Philadelphia’s top wide receiver against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, October 4, 2026. That is a temporary, game-specific role—not evidence that Wicks has become the Eagles’ permanent WR1. NFL.com reported the change on October 2.
Why Wicks is expected to lead the Eagles’ receivers
The Eagles’ 2026 initial 53-man roster lists Wicks as a wide receiver, but it does not rank him on the depth chart. The expectation that he will be the No. 1 receiver for this matchup comes from NFL.com’s report that Smith was ruled out and Wicks would take the lead role in his absence. It does not establish a permanent change in Philadelphia’s receiver hierarchy.
Wicks joined Philadelphia after Green Bay announced his trade to the Eagles on April 13, 2026. Green Bay’s announcement records his Packers production through the 2025 season as 108 receptions, 1,328 receiving yards, a 12.3-yard average and 11 touchdowns. Those are his past Packers totals, not his 2026 Eagles statistics.
Wicks’ production through three Eagles games
In his first three games of the 2026 season, Wicks recorded nine receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown, averaging 19.9 yards per catch, according to NFL.com’s 2026 splits. That average reflects a small three-game sample; it describes what he has done so far, not a dependable forecast for this game. The available statistics excerpt does not state his target total, so a catch rate cannot be calculated from it.

Other Eagles pass-catchers are also unavailable
Smith’s hamstring injury is not the only absence affecting Philadelphia’s passing options. NFL.com reported that Hollywood Brown and tight end Dallas Goedert were also out; Goedert was listed with a knee issue and, like Brown, was sidelined for a second consecutive game. The Rams’ injury report separately listed Smith and Goedert among Philadelphia’s players ruled out, but it does not independently establish Brown’s status.
The absences make Wicks’ opportunity more notable, but they do not reveal how Philadelphia will distribute targets or what share of snaps or routes he will play. The cited reports provide no target projection or guarantee of production.

Game details and what the role means for fantasy
The Rams’ official game center lists Los Angeles at Philadelphia for Week 4 on Sunday, October 4, at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles’ schedule gives kickoff as 1 p.m. EDT. The Rams game-center page showed Philadelphia at 2–1 and Los Angeles at 1–2 in its pregame snapshot; those records are specific to that listing.
For fantasy managers, Wicks’ expected lead role and early-season yardage are evidence of opportunity, not a reliable points projection. The available information does not settle whether to start him: that decision depends on roster alternatives, scoring format and the final inactive list. Check official inactives near kickoff because availability information can change.
