Prices change by platform and over time, so treat published squad costs as dated estimates and check your own market before buying.
How to choose cheap players that are useful in matches
Start with the position your squad needs, then compare the attributes and PlayStyles that matter for that job. Overall rating alone is a poor shortcut: a low-cost card may be attractive for Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) because of its rating but less helpful in Rivals or Champions.

- Forwards: compare pace and finishing.
- Wingers: look closely at acceleration and dribbling.
- Midfielders: check passing and stamina, then the defensive attributes needed for the role.
- Defenders: consider pace, awareness, strength, and defensive PlayStyles.
Also account for chemistry and the rest of the XI. A player who links to cards you already own—or improves several links—may be more useful than an isolated star. Keep coins available for weak positions rather than spending nearly the entire budget on one attacker.

Around 20,000 coins: a 4-4-1-1 (2)
AllThingsHow’s September 25, 2026 guide estimates its 4-4-1-1 (2) at about 21,350 coins. Its suggested XI is Falcone; Spence, Le Tissier, Rüdiger, and Álvaro Carreras; Reuteler, Rabiot, Giugliano, and Thompson; Dybala; and Anyomi. The guide highlights balance and describes Anyomi as a quick forward. Its cheaper alternative is an approximately 19,000-coin 4-2-1-3, with David De Gea, Mario Gila, Oumar Solet, Antonee Robinson, and Djed Spence in the defensive group. Around 50,000 coins: a 4-2-1-3
Dot Esports presents 50,000 coins as a useful balance between budget and choice. Its September 23, 2026 suggested XI names Hannah Hampton, Ona Batlle, Dean Huijsen, Ezri Konsa, Marc Cucurella, Kim Little, Géraldine Reuteler, Jaedyn Shaw, Alyssa Thompson, Ademola Lookman, and Omar Marmoush. The guide estimates 48,500 coins on consoles and 50,500 on PC, and notes Nick Pope as a cheaper goalkeeper alternative. Those estimates are specific to the guide’s dated build; they are not current transaction prices. Dot Esports also recommends 4-2-1-3 as a general starter formation and outlines 10K, 50K, 100K, and 250K squad tiers. See Dot Esports’ budget squad tiers.

Under 10,000 coins: shortlist by role, not rating
PlayerAuctions lists Klara Bühl, Yui Hasegawa, Barbra Banda, Declan Rice, and Mapi León as under-10K examples in its September 28, 2026 guide. Treat that list as a dated set of examples, not a promise that each card remains below the threshold or suits every squad. Separate gameplay picks from cheap SBC fodder
A low price and a high rating do not establish that a card will perform well in your lineup. PlayerAuctions explicitly distinguishes inexpensive high-rated cards that can help with SBCs from players selected for competitive gameplay. Choose gameplay cards for their position, role, and relevant attributes; choose SBC cards for the challenge requirements and rating you need.

FUT.GG’s cheapest-by-rating table is useful as an SBC-price reference, not as a ranking of the best on-pitch players. At the time of access, examples displayed included some 81–83-rated cards at 650 coins, 84-rated cards at 700–800, 85-rated cards at 1,700–2,100, and 86-rated cards at 3,900–4,400. Check prices and player details before you commit coins
- Set a coin cap and identify your platform. PC and console prices can differ, so do not assume that a quote for one market applies to another.
- Choose the role you need to fill. Compare position-specific attributes rather than selecting by overall rating alone.
- Check chemistry and squad balance. Consider existing players, links, and whether the purchase leaves enough coins for the rest of the XI.
- Confirm the card’s current price on your platform. Guide estimates are dated; listings can change with supply, demand, SBCs, Evolutions, and promotional content.
- Use player databases to narrow the shortlist. FUT.GG describes filters for position, league, club, nation, rarity, and price, alongside card ratings, prices, PlayStyles, and roles. Use those details to compare candidates, then confirm the market listing in game. Browse FUT.GG’s player database.
What EA’s ratings data covers
EA’s official FC 27 ratings page says it covers more than 19,000 players and offers filters for Overall, Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Defending, and Physical. Its scope note is important: “The Player Ratings table reflects the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Player Items available in Ultimate Team ’27 at launch.” EA says the table excludes other item types, including Heroes, Icons, and campaign items added after release, and does not reflect live-form updates in other modes. EA’s Game Info Hub announcement separately says the full FC 27 database went live with over 21,000 players. It describes Destined for Glory players receiving live upgrades based on real-world performance and gives the campaign dates as September 25 to October 9, 2026. The announcement also says FC 27 base rarities are labeled Bronze, Silver, and Gold rather than Common or Rare.
