The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine combines a cordless dry vacuum with a separate powered roller for washing hard floors. Its wet-cleaning feature is useful if you regularly wash sealed hard flooring and want that job alongside dry vacuuming. It is less compelling if you mainly need a carpet vacuum, want to retrofit an existing V15, or would rather avoid cleaning and maintaining a wet roller.
What the V15s Detect Submarine includes
This is not one head that switches between vacuuming and washing. The dry-vacuum functions use separate cleaner heads, while the dedicated Submarine wet roller handles hard-floor washing. Dyson’s US product page lists the Submarine wet roller, Fluffy Optic and Digital Motorbar heads, but bundles can differ by market and listing; check the exact configuration you are buying. Dyson describes the wet roller as motor-driven and says it uses clean water on spills and tough stains. In its September 12, 2023 launch announcement, the company said a plate extracts contaminated water from the roller into a separate waste-water tray. Dyson also describes power diversion and mode detection as measures to prevent water from reaching the motor. How well does the wet-cleaning setup work?
Dyson engineers the Submarine roller for hard floors, so this feature is best understood as a way to add wet floor cleaning to a dry vacuum—not as a wet head for every surface or task. TechRadar’s guide dated September 18, 2026 describes the machine as effective on hard floors, while noting that pausing can leave streaks and that removing the head can spill dirty water. Those are that reviewer’s observations, not guaranteed outcomes in every home or independently established results.
The design also means that wet cleaning brings a separate dirty-water handling step. If you frequently wash hard floors, combining the tools may be convenient; if you only occasionally mop, the roller’s cleanup and upkeep may weigh more heavily than the convenience.

Does it work on carpets?
No—not with the Submarine wet roller. Dyson says the wet roller is engineered for hard floors, not carpet. Use the appropriate dry-vacuum head for carpets, and reserve wet debris and liquid spills for the Submarine wet roller. Dyson’s product FAQ and guidance

Dyson permits gentle common household detergents, provided you dilute them according to the detergent maker’s instructions. Do not put undiluted detergent in the clean-water tank, and do not use bleach. Can I use the wet roller head with my existing Dyson V15?
No. Dyson says the complete Submarine wet roller head is incompatible with other Dyson vacuums, including a V15 bought previously. The company says the V15s is reprogrammed for wet cleaning and earlier software is incompatible; it also says the complete wet roller head is not sold separately as an accessory. The V15s makes the most sense for a household that wants one cordless machine for dry vacuuming and frequent hard-floor washing, and is willing to maintain the wet roller. It is a weaker fit if carpet is the priority, wet washing is rare, or adding an attachment to an existing V15 is the goal.

- Floor mix: Consider how much of your home is hard flooring versus carpet, and how often you actually wash the hard floors.
- Tool bundle: Confirm which dry-floor heads and accessories are included in the specific local edition, rather than assuming every listing has the same kit.
- Wet-head upkeep: Account for washing the roller after each session, replacing it on Dyson’s use-dependent schedule, and handling the dirty-water tray.
- Ownership terms: Check the current price, warranty, return eligibility and replacement-part availability in your market. Dyson’s US page displayed a two-year limited warranty and a 30-day return policy in its listing, but commercial terms can change.
