Its standout design is clear; its hard-floor pickup is not. RTINGS reported weak pickup in its 2026 review, while Vacuum Wars reported strong results in studio testing. The better fit is someone who wants a lightweight, easy-to-grab machine for hard floors and accepts a small bin and limited runtime.
What the PencilVac Fluffycones is
This is a slim cordless stick vacuum built around Dyson’s Fluffycones head, which uses four soft-roller cones. Dyson says the cones counter-rotate to move hair toward the ends and reduce tangling. The company describes the body as 38 mm in diameter and the motor as spinning at up to 140,000 rpm; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measures. Dyson’s launch announcement also claims its linear dust separation system captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, with test qualifications in the announcement’s footnote.

Dyson’s launch FAQ calls the Fluffycones head’s edge-to-edge cleaning “unparalleled.” That is promotional language rather than an independently established comparison. The practical design goal is a narrow, maneuverable vacuum for hard floors and smaller spaces, not a traditional full-size all-floor machine.

Does it clean hard floors well?
Independent assessments disagree, so there is no evidence-based single verdict on its hard-floor pickup. RTINGS’ review, dated September 24, 2026, reports weak bare-floor pickup and debris left behind. Vacuum Wars’ review, updated October 1, 2026, says its studio evaluations found excellent hard-floor pickup after buying and assessing a unit over several weeks. Those are source-specific findings, not directly interchangeable scores.

The disagreement matters most if your floors have deep gaps, textured surfaces, or a mix of fine and larger debris. When comparing reviews, look for tests that resemble your floor finish and the material you routinely vacuum, including whether they test debris in floor gaps and pet hair. The evidence here does not establish that one result applies to every hard floor or home.
Carpets and rugs are the clearest weakness
Do not choose the PencilVac as your primary carpet vacuum. RTINGS describes it as a hard-floor-only design and reports poor carpet pickup and pet-hair performance. Vacuum Wars likewise flags poor carpet performance. The four-cone soft-roller head is intended for hard floors; the available evidence does not support treating it as a substitute for a powered carpet-cleaning head.

If you have rugs, consider how much of your cleaning they require. A few small, low-pile mats may be a manageable compromise for some households, but neither review establishes dependable rug cleaning across types. For substantial carpet, embedded pet hair, or one-vacuum-for-the-whole-home use, a more versatile model is the safer category to compare.
Handling, runtime, and bin capacity
Light, slim handling
The narrow body and multidirectional head are central to the PencilVac’s appeal: they are intended to make it easy to steer into tight spaces and store in a small footprint. Vacuum Wars praised maneuverability in its evaluation. The design is likely more compelling for quick hard-floor pickups than for long cleaning sessions where capacity and sustained runtime matter more.

Runtime depends on mode
Dyson states up to 30 minutes of runtime. Its manual describes Eco, Med, and Boost modes, so the maximum figure should not be read as guaranteed time in every mode or cleaning condition. Vacuum Wars measured nine minutes in max power in its test; that is a reviewer result, not Dyson’s rated runtime. RTINGS also judged the available runtime potentially insufficient for a full home.
The bin is small
Vacuum Wars measured the bin at 75.7 mL and identified its limited capacity as a drawback. Expect more frequent emptying than with a larger household vacuum, especially if you vacuum often or collect a lot of hair and debris. RTINGS also reported dust escaping during emptying, a relevant consideration for people who want to minimize contact with dust.

Controls, included tools, and care
The Dyson manual describes an LCD, app connection through MyDyson, a click-in battery, and a magnetic charging dock. The US product page lists a Fluffycones head, rotating combi-crevice tool, single storage docking station, and charging cable. The manual also identifies a Hair screw tool as an additional tool rather than part of that listed bundle. Bundles and included accessories can vary by market, so check the live listing for your region.

Price, availability, and regional checks
Price, offers, stock, warranty, and bundle contents are time- and market-sensitive. Dyson’s US product page showed an offer when accessed on October 4, 2026, but that is not a durable price. Check Dyson’s live US product page and the retailer listing for your country before purchasing. Review pages may point to retailers, but a listing does not guarantee current stock, a particular configuration, or a price.
Verdict
The PencilVac Fluffycones makes the most sense as a compact hard-floor vacuum for someone who prizes slim handling and easy storage over capacity and all-floor versatility. Its carpet limitations are well supported, while hard-floor pickup remains contested between two independent reviewers. If you need one vacuum for carpet, rugs, pet hair, and extended cleaning, look beyond it; if your home is mostly hard flooring, verify that the performance review closest to your floor type matches what you need.
