Short answer: The Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP2 De-NOx is a three-function appliance that purifies air, provides fan airflow and works as a space heater. Its appeal is saving floor space and avoiding three separate devices. The trade-offs are a premium price, a filter that Dyson expects you to replace, and cooling that is only fan airflow—not air conditioning. Dyson publishes the performance figures, but no verified independent hands-on HP2 test was available, so treat the numerical claims as manufacturer specifications rather than proven results in every home.
What the Dyson HP2 does
The HP2 combines three jobs in one tower: air purification, fan airflow and heating. Dyson markets it as the “Purifier Hot+Cool De-NOx.” The India product page uses the model label HP12 for what it presents as the HP2 De-NOx, while the US listing calls it HP2. That naming difference matters when you search for a manual, warranty information or a replacement filter.

Dyson says the machine captures ultra-fine particles, removes odors and gases, and continuously destroys formaldehyde. Those are Dyson’s own product claims. They should not be read as an independent certification that every room will receive the same result, nor as proof that the appliance removes every pollutant at the stated rate under all conditions.
The basic value proposition is practical rather than mysterious: one footprint, one power cord and one set of controls for equipment you might otherwise buy separately. The compromise is that a combined appliance cannot be judged only by its purifier specification. You also need to decide whether its fan output is sufficient for your comfort, whether its heater suits your room, and whether the ongoing filter cost is acceptable.

HP2 and HP12: why the model name changes by country
Before ordering, match the model number on the local Dyson page, box or rating label. Dyson India identifies the HP2 De-NOx as HP12, while Dyson US uses HP2. This product is distinct from the HP1 and older HP09/Formaldehyde models. A filter or accessory advertised for a different model should not be assumed to fit.

The two percentages are not directly comparable independent test results. They come from different regional product pages, and those pages do not show publication years. Do not combine them into a single universal HP2 figure.
Does the HP2 actually cool a room?
No. Dyson’s own qualification is explicit: Fan, not air conditioning unit.
The cooling function moves air across you, which can make you feel cooler, but it does not actively refrigerate the room or lower its temperature like an air conditioner.

This distinction changes how you should plan a purchase. The HP2 can be useful beside a desk, bed or sofa when you want a directed breeze and purified airflow. It is not a substitute for an air-conditioning system during a heatwave, and you should not expect it to cool an entire room after the windows are closed.
Dyson India describes the product as “Heats in winter, cools you in summer, purifies all year round.” That is product copy, not an independent climate-control test. Fan comfort depends on the room temperature, humidity, your distance from the outlet and the selected airflow setting.
How much room can it cover?
Dyson India lists 81 m³ of room coverage according to its POLAR method. Dyson also says its disclosed tests used a 35 m³ room for heating and an 81 m³ room for purification. These volumes explain the conditions behind the company’s figures; they are not a guarantee that every 81 m³ home will receive uniform purification or heating.

Convert the published volume to your room
Calculate room volume as length × width × ceiling height. For example, a 5 m × 4 m room with a 2.7 m ceiling is 54 m³, below the published 81 m³ figure. An open-plan area may exceed 81 m³ even if its floor area looks modest because adjoining spaces, high ceilings and open doorways add air volume.
- Measure the complete connected space, not just the area immediately around the purifier.
- Allow for open doors, stairwells and high ceilings that increase the air volume.
- Place the unit where its intake and outlet are not blocked by furniture or curtains.
- Use the 81 m³ number as a reference point, not as a promise of a specific air-change rate in your home.
For a small bedroom or office, the published volume may look generous. For a large open-plan living area, one unit may be undersized even if it runs continuously. Dyson’s test-room method and your room’s layout are different variables, so room shape and placement matter as much as the headline number.
What the filtration claims mean
The US page says the HP2 captures 99.97% of ultra-fine particles. The India page says 99.95% and describes fully sealed, three-stage HEPA H13 filtration. Dyson’s US product box lists a 360° Combi HEPA + K-Carbon filter. These statements indicate the filter architecture Dyson is selling, but they do not constitute an independent HP2-specific laboratory review.
Particles, gases and odors are different jobs
HEPA media is aimed at particles. The K-Carbon component is intended for gases and odors. Dyson additionally says the machine removes odors and gases and continuously destroys formaldehyde. Those capabilities are manufacturer claims and should be considered separately from the particle-capture percentages.
A sealed filter system can reduce the chance of air bypassing the filter, but real-world results still depend on fan speed, room mixing, pollutant source, filter condition and how long the unit operates. The published percentages do not tell you how quickly a particular room reaches a target concentration.

The HP2 is designed to heat a room, and Dyson reports a heating test in a 35 m³ room. No independent measurement of heat-up time, thermostat accuracy, noise at maximum heat or electricity consumption is published. Those are the figures you would need to compare it fairly with a dedicated heater.

Use the heater as a supplementary room appliance rather than assuming it can replace a whole-home heating system. Keep the air inlet and outlet clear, follow the electrical and clearance instructions in the local manual, and avoid covering the machine while it is operating. If energy cost is a major concern, check the local electrical rating and measure consumption yourself; no HP2-specific independent energy result is published.
Airflow and oscillation
Dyson India lists 350° oscillation. That lets the outlet sweep most of a circle while leaving a small fixed arc, helping distribute airflow around a room. Oscillation is useful for sharing a breeze or spreading filtered air, but it does not increase the filter’s capacity beyond what the fan and room conditions allow.
Because the HP2 is a fan rather than an air conditioner, airflow direction is central to comfort. Point it toward occupants for a cooling breeze, or use oscillation when several people need coverage. For purification, avoid placing it in a corner where the intake is close to a wall; unobstructed circulation gives the machine a better chance of mixing room air.
Controls, remote and app information
The US box lists a remote control. Dyson support materials indicate that the machine or the MyDyson app provides filter-life information. The exact app functions, connectivity requirements and control labels can vary by regional model, so check the manual supplied with your local HP2/HP12 before assuming a particular feature is available.
A sensible first-use sequence
- Set the appliance on a stable, level surface with clear space around the air intake and outlet.
- Remove all packaging and confirm that the filter is installed as described for your regional model.
- Connect the 1.8 m power cord to a suitable outlet and use the local manual’s electrical guidance.
- Choose fan airflow, heating or purification-oriented operation according to your immediate need.
- Use oscillation when you want airflow distributed around the room; aim the outlet toward occupants for personal cooling.
- Check the filter-life indication in the machine or MyDyson app and respond when a replacement notification appears.
The remote is a convenience rather than a reason to buy the HP2 by itself. The meaningful control question is whether you will use the purifier continuously, schedule it, or change between heating and fan airflow often enough for a combined appliance to simplify your routine.
Filter replacement and upkeep
Filter replacement is a recurring ownership task. Dyson UK says the HEPA + K-Carbon filter needs replacement after 12 months when the machine is used for 12 hours per day. That is usage-based guidance, not a universal expiration date. Heavy use, smoke, dust and local air quality can shorten the interval, while lighter use may not consume the filter at the same rate.

How to manage the filter
- Check the machine or MyDyson app for filter-life information rather than relying only on a calendar reminder.
- Buy a filter that explicitly lists compatibility with your exact local HP2 or HP12 model.
- Do not assume a filter for HP1, HP09 or another Hot+Cool variant fits the HP2.
- Install the replacement according to the local manual and reset any filter-life indicator if the instructions require it.
The filter is not a minor accessory: it is part of the total cost of ownership and a condition of the purifier’s intended operation. Before buying, check local availability and the recurring price of the correct 360° HEPA + K-Carbon replacement.
Price snapshots and why they are not a global comparison
Prices differ by country, currency, tax, promotion and model label. The Dyson US category page displayed $699.99 on sale against an original price of $949.99. Dyson India displayed ₹68,900 for HP2 and ₹56,900 for HP1. These listings are market-specific snapshots and cannot be converted into a meaningful international value ranking.

Recheck the current local listing before purchase. Confirm the exact SKU, warranty terms, delivery region and replacement-filter price. No universal warranty duration is established, so do not assume that a warranty shown in one country applies elsewhere.
Is the HP2 worth its premium?
Value depends on whether you will use all three functions. Paying more can make sense when you need a purifier and a heater in the same room, want fan airflow in warm weather, and prefer one coordinated appliance over separate devices. The premium is harder to justify if you only need particle filtration and already own an effective heater or fan.
The HP2 is a stronger fit when you:
- Want one appliance for purification, supplementary heating and fan airflow.
- Have a room whose calculated volume is near or below the 81 m³ figure published by Dyson India.
- Value oscillation, a remote and app-based filter-life information.
- Accept recurring filter replacement and can obtain the correct local consumable.
- Understand that “cooling” means moving air, not lowering room temperature.
Consider a different setup when you:
- Need actual air conditioning for hot weather.
- Must heat a large or poorly insulated space and require measured energy or heat-output data.
- Want the lowest possible purchase and maintenance cost.
- Need independently verified HP2 performance figures before buying.
- Cannot confirm the local model number, warranty or replacement-filter supply.
How to compare the HP2 with another appliance
Do not compare only the largest particle percentage printed on a box. Use the same questions for every candidate:

No independent competing-product comparison is available, so a fair buying decision should rely on these measurable axes rather than an unsupported ranking.

Common buying and setup mistakes
Mistaking a fan for an air conditioner
If your priority is reducing room temperature, the HP2’s fan airflow will not meet that requirement. Treat it as personal cooling and air movement.
Using the wrong regional model number
Search results may mix HP2, HP12, HP1 and older HP09 products. Read the local product label before ordering a filter or downloading instructions.
Assuming the headline coverage fits every layout
An 81 m³ POLAR figure does not account for every open-plan connection, ceiling height or airflow obstruction. Calculate your actual volume and place the unit where air can circulate.
Ignoring filter-life information
Waiting for a visible performance problem is poor maintenance practice. Monitor the machine or app and budget for the compatible HEPA + K-Carbon filter.
Reading manufacturer claims as independent results
The 99.97%, 99.95%, 81 m³ and 350° figures are Dyson-published claims or specifications. No verified independent HP2 hands-on test was available.

What this review can—and cannot—conclude
The HP2’s design is easy to understand: it consolidates three household functions, offers broad oscillation and provides filter-life information through the machine or app. Dyson publishes substantial specifications, including regional filtration percentages, a POLAR room-volume figure and a usage-based filter interval.
What is not established here is equally important. There is no verified independent HP2-specific measurement of clean-air delivery, formaldehyde destruction, noise, heat-up time, electricity consumption or real-room temperature change. Those outcomes vary with room size, pollutant load, settings and climate. A purchase decision should therefore treat Dyson’s figures as claims to verify against your needs, not as guaranteed results.

Buy the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP2 when the convenience of one purifier-heater-fan outweighs its premium price and recurring filter expense, and when you specifically want fan airflow rather than air conditioning. Check your room volume, confirm the local HP2/HP12 SKU, price the correct replacement filter and verify warranty terms before ordering. If you only need cooling, the HP2 is the wrong category; if you need independently measured performance, wait for a test that reports those measurements rather than relying on the manufacturer specifications alone.
