What independent testing does—and does not—show
CHOICE’s review listing for the exact model identifies categories including carpet cleaning, overall cleaning performance, pet hair, edges, ease of use and noise. Its expert rating and detailed scores are behind membership. The public listing alone therefore does not establish how well this vacuum cleans carpets or hard floors, handles pet hair, or performs for noise and usability, nor whether CHOICE recommends it.

For a meaningful comparison with another canister vacuum, look for results measured on comparable terms: carpet and hard-floor cleaning, pet-hair pickup, steering and ease of use, noise, bin volume, weight and reach. Also compare included tools, current local price and warranty. A headline suction or wattage figure cannot answer those cleaning questions by itself.
Care and operating guidance
Wash and dry the filter fully
Dyson Canada’s Big Ball support page says to rinse the washable filter under cold water until clear, without detergent, and let it dry completely for at least 24 hours before refitting. Its wording is: “Rinse under a cold tap until the water runs clear – you don’t need any detergents.” Follow the instructions supplied for your own region and exact machine if they differ.

Empty at the MAX marker
Dyson support and the US CY23 manual both say to empty the bin when debris reaches the MAX marker. Avoid letting collected dirt rise beyond that line.

The US CY23 manual says the brush bar is on by default and can be slowed using the suction-release trigger for delicate floors. It warns that the brush bar can damage some carpets and delicate hard floors, and advises checking the flooring or carpet maker’s cleaning instructions. That manual also says the machine is for household dirt, hair and allergens rather than rubble, ash or plaster; fine plaster dust or flour should be vacuumed only in very small amounts. Because this is a US CY23 manual, confirm these instructions against the manual supplied with an Australian 447177-01 unit.

Warranty, service and replacement parts
CHOICE’s public listing shows a two-year warranty field for this model, but does not provide the warranty document or further context. Confirm the current Dyson Australia warranty and retailer terms for your purchase date. The five-year limited parts-and-labour warranty printed in the US CY23 manual applies to its covered machine and conditions; it is not evidence of the Australian SKU’s warranty.
Dyson Canada lists Big Ball replacement parts including pre-filter 967371-01, hose 967366-02, bin 967363-02 and extension tube 967365-01. The support page does not confirm that those part numbers fit Australian SKU 447177-01. Check the model and part number against Dyson’s compatibility information for your region before ordering. Dyson Canada’s repair-service terms are also Canadian: its page says service includes labour and required spare parts, excludes additional accessories and filters, and carries a 12-month or remaining-support-period guarantee, whichever is sooner. Do not assume those terms apply in Australia.
Price and buying decision
Dyson Australia’s product page showed the vacuum in stock at A$395, reduced from A$599, when accessed on 2026-10-07. Price and availability can change; check the live listing and compare the current local price before buying.
