If Dying Light 2 co-op will not start or keeps disconnecting, first confirm that both players have unlocked co-op, their device dates and times match, and their platforms are compatible. If those checks do not help, record the details Techland requests and contact its support team. Techland’s guidance does not identify one universal cause or fix for every connection problem.
Check that both players have unlocked co-op
Each player must progress through the Prologue to the Markers of Plague quest. Techland says co-op unlocks at that point and stays available for the rest of the game. If either player has not reached it, have that player continue the story before trying to join. Techland’s co-op troubleshooting guidance describes this requirement.

Make sure the platforms can play together
Dying Light 2 supports some cross-generation and PC storefront combinations, but not cross-platform co-op between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Check the pairing before troubleshooting a connection that the game does not support.

Match each player’s device date and time
Check the local date and time on every player’s PC or console and make sure they match. Techland includes this as a troubleshooting step, including for console players. Adjust the device settings if they differ, then try the co-op session again. Techland’s co-op issues page gives this recommendation.
Collect the details Techland needs to diagnose the failure
If invitations still fail, note the circumstances before contacting support. Techland asks for details about both players and their connection; for a PC connection, it specifically recommends checking it with an online speed test.

- Whether both players completed the Prologue through Markers of Plague.
- Whether their device dates and times match.
- The host’s and joining player’s locations and active quests when the connection was attempted.
- The number of friends shown in the game’s online menu.
- Connection details; for PC, include the result of an online speed test.
For a session that drops unexpectedly, also record how long it lasted, where the disconnect occurred, whether the group was free-roaming or doing a quest, and how many people were playing. Those specifics help distinguish a failed invitation from a session that starts and then ends. Techland requests this information in its co-op connection guidance.

After checking eligibility, platform compatibility, and device time, send Techland the diagnostic details above through its co-op issues support page. The cited guidance does not prescribe router changes, port forwarding, DNS changes, cache clearing, or reinstalling as fixes, so those steps should not be treated as confirmed solutions here.

What recent patch listings do—and do not—confirm
Techland’s patch index lists Update 1.29 dated August 3, 2026, and Hotfix 1.28.1 dated June 25, 2026. The index summaries do not identify either as a co-op connectivity fix. Check the full notes for the platform you use and make sure players have compatible installed game versions; do not assume either listed update resolves a connection failure.
