PureRAW is a preprocessing application: it applies DxO demosaicing, optical corrections and advanced denoising to supported camera RAW files, then creates files for Lightroom Classic, Lightroom, Camera Raw, Photoshop or another editor that can open the output. It can run as a standalone application, through a Lightroom Classic external module, and—with the Mac Finder extension—through file management.

Check compatibility before you download
The detailed PureRAW settings page, marked as updated February 27, 2026, is the best checklist for installation. Its figures are vendor-published specifications and can change with a future PureRAW release, so confirm them again immediately before installing.

These are minimums for running the application, not a promise that every denoising mode will perform quickly. Keep additional working space available for source RAW files and generated outputs.

macOS minimum configuration

The settings page does not state a single minimum CPU model for ordinary processing on Mac. Feature-specific hardware requirements still apply, so identify the denoising and dust-detection features you intend to use before assuming an older Mac is suitable.
Hardware needed for advanced features
On Windows, DxO lists the following supported options for DeepPRIME 3, DeepPRIME XD3 and AI dust detection: an Nvidia RTX 2000 GPU with 6 GB VRAM, an AMD Radeon RX6000-series GPU with 6 GB VRAM, Intel ARC graphics with 8 GB VRAM, or Intel AI Boost on a Core Ultra system.
On Mac, DeepPRIME 3 and DeepPRIME XD3 require Apple silicon starting with M1, or an Intel Mac equipped with an AMD Radeon Pro RX5700. AI dust detection requires Apple M1. If your machine lacks the listed hardware, the application may still install, but those particular features are not within the published support matrix.
Recommended headroom
DxO’s recommended configuration raises memory to 32 GB and free storage to 50 GB. The Windows recommendation uses Windows 11 version 24H2. The Mac recommendation lists an Apple M2 Pro and macOS 26 (Tahoe). Treat these as recommendations rather than mandatory installation gates; they are intended to provide more room for demanding batches and newer processing models.

Resolve conflicting storage and RAM figures
The store page currently displays different figures, including 8 GB RAM and 6 GB available space for macOS. Those values conflict with the more detailed settings page, which specifies 16 GB RAM and 30 GB free space for macOS and Windows. For a reliable installation decision, use the detailed settings-page requirements and verify the latest version-specific information in DxO’s system-requirements help article. Do not assume the smaller store values leave enough room for real RAW processing.
Get the legitimate installer
- Open the official PureRAW 6 user guide and follow its download instruction, or use the official DxO store page for a direct Mac or Windows license download.
- Allow the browser to save the installer in your Downloads folder. Avoid third-party mirrors: an unofficial package can be outdated, modified or missing the activation components required by PureRAW.
- Check the file extension before opening it. Windows downloads end in
.exe; Mac downloads arrive as.dmg. A file with a different extension is not the installer described in DxO’s current guide.
The store offers a direct license for either Mac or Windows. Prices, upgrade eligibility and promotional offers vary by region and by account status, so consult the live store rather than relying on a fixed price quoted elsewhere.
Install PureRAW on Windows
- Open File Explorer and select Downloads.
- Double-click the downloaded
.exefile. If Windows displays a security prompt, verify that the file came from DxO’s official download and then allow the installer to run. - Read and accept the license agreement, choose the requested installation options and continue through the wizard.
- When the installer offers optional components, decide whether you want the Lightroom Classic external module. Install it if Lightroom Classic is part of your workflow; leave it unchecked if you plan to use PureRAW only as a standalone application.
- Finish the wizard and launch PureRAW from the Start menu or the installer’s final screen.
The installer does not copy images from a camera automatically. RAW files must already be on a local drive before you add them to PureRAW.

Install PureRAW on macOS
- Open Finder and choose Downloads.
- Double-click the downloaded
.dmgdisk image. macOS opens a temporary disk window containing the installer. - Launch the installer from that disk image and follow the on-screen prompts, including the license agreement.
- Review optional integration choices. The setup can install the Lightroom Classic external module and the Finder integration described by DxO.
- Complete installation, eject the disk image if macOS leaves it mounted, and open PureRAW from Applications or Launchpad.
If Finder controls are missing
When the Finder integration does not appear after installation, open macOS System Settings, go to the extensions controls, locate the PureRAW Finder extension and enable it. The exact appearance of the Extensions panel can vary between macOS releases, but the extension must be enabled before Finder can expose its PureRAW actions.

Activate a trial or purchased license
PureRAW asks for an activation key at first launch. DxO says a trial activation key is supplied during the trial-download process, while a purchased registration key is emailed after buying a license through DxO.
- Internet activation: an internet connection is required when you activate the installation.
- Computer limit: the vendor states that one license can be activated on up to two computers.
- Offline use: after online activation, DxO states that PureRAW can run offline for 37 days before it must reconnect to DxO servers.
- Trial period: the guide describes a 14-day trial activation key. Confirm the current trial terms when requesting the key, because vendor conditions can change.
Keep the purchase email and key available if you reinstall or move to another computer. If you have already used both activation slots, deactivate an old installation according to DxO’s account or license controls before attempting another activation.
Confirm your camera files are supported
PureRAW is designed for camera RAW processing, but not every file with a RAW or DNG label is accepted. DxO lists support for common RAW formats, including Fujifilm X-Trans files, original DNG files produced by cameras that use DNG, and certain DNG files converted from supported RAW formats.

The guide specifically excludes compressed DNG files, merged DNG images created in Lightroom Classic, Lightroom or Camera Raw, and DNG files produced by smartphone cameras. Camera support and format handling can evolve, so check the current compatibility information in the user guide before importing a newer camera’s files.

Use the standalone workflow correctly
- Transfer photos from the camera or memory card to a folder on your computer using your normal file-transfer method. PureRAW does not import directly from a camera or memory card.
- Open PureRAW and add the transferred files through its file picker, or drag them from Windows File Explorer or macOS Finder into the application.
- Choose the processing options available for your hardware and source format. Advanced DeepPRIME and AI dust-detection choices depend on the GPU or Apple silicon requirements listed earlier.
- Run the processing job and save the generated output to a location with enough free space. Keep the original RAW files unchanged so you can revisit the job with different settings.
- Open the output in Lightroom Classic, Lightroom, Camera Raw, Photoshop or another editor that supports the output format.
The same processed file can be used in a broader RAW workflow, but PureRAW’s role is preprocessing rather than catalog management or full photo editing. Plan where the generated files will live before starting a large batch.

Both platforms provide the same core purpose and a unified main interface. The practical choice is the computer you already use for photo storage and editing, provided it meets the operating-system, memory, storage and feature-specific hardware requirements.
Troubleshoot common download and installation problems
The download will not start or the file looks wrong
Return to the official guide or store page, start a fresh download and confirm the extension is .exe on Windows or .dmg on Mac. Do not rename an unrelated file to make it look like an installer, and do not substitute a mirror link.

Free at least 30 GB, then allow more room for the RAW files and outputs you intend to process. DxO recommends 50 GB free. A nearly full system drive can fail even when the installer itself is small because processing creates temporary and output data.

PureRAW opens but a feature is unavailable
Compare your GPU, VRAM or Apple silicon model with DxO’s feature-specific list. DeepPRIME 3, DeepPRIME XD3 and AI dust detection have additional requirements beyond the basic application minimums.
Activation fails
Confirm that the computer is online, re-enter the trial or purchase key exactly as supplied, and check whether the license is already active on two computers. If the installation has been offline for more than the stated 37-day interval, reconnect to DxO servers before processing.
A photo is rejected
Verify that it is an eligible camera RAW or supported DNG. Compressed DNG, merged Lightroom-family DNG and smartphone-camera DNG files are excluded in the current guide. Export or copy the original camera RAW instead of a merged or compressed derivative.

What to verify before processing a large batch
- Your operating system matches the current version requirement for your platform.
- You have at least 16 GB RAM and 30 GB free space; 32 GB RAM and 50 GB free space are the recommended targets.
- Your computer has the required GPU, VRAM or Apple silicon for the denoising and dust-detection features you plan to use.
- Your camera model and exact RAW or DNG variant are supported.
- Your activation key, internet connection and available license slot are ready.
- Your Lightroom Classic module or Mac Finder extension is enabled only if you need those integrations.
- Your source files have been copied from the camera or card to the computer.
Following those checks gives you the correct platform installer, avoids the store-page specification ambiguity and leaves PureRAW ready to create files for your existing editing application.
