Choose by platform first: the DualSense Edge is built for PS5, while the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is designed for Xbox and also supports Windows PCs and mobile devices. Their premium features serve different priorities: Edge keeps DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers and has a replaceable stick module; Elite offers adjustable stick tension, four paddles, and a manufacturer-rated battery life of up to 40 hours per charge.
At a glance: the main differences
| Feature | DualSense Edge | Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | PS5 players who want DualSense features and configurable profiles | Xbox players and those who prioritize adjustable stick tension and multiple rear paddles |
| Documented platform connections | PS5; Windows PC over USB or Bluetooth via PlayStation Accessories, with feature limitations | Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One via Xbox Wireless or USB-C; Windows PCs and mobile devices via Bluetooth or USB-C. Some older Windows versions require wired USB. |
| Back controls | Two rear buttons, with two sets of button shapes included at launch | Four paddles |
| Sticks | Replaceable stick module; three styles of stick caps described in Sony’s announcement | Adjustable tension and interchangeable stick toppers; Microsoft does not describe a replaceable stick module |
| Profiles | Multiple configurable profiles and on-controller controls | Up to three custom profiles plus one default profile |
| Battery claim | Sony’s cited product materials do not state a numeric runtime | Microsoft says up to 40 hours per charge; actual life varies with use and other factors |
These are ecosystem-specific controllers, not direct substitutes on each other’s consoles. The Elite Series 2’s documented console compatibility is Xbox; Sony positions Edge for PS5. PC support does not make either one a cross-console controller.

Compatibility: start with the system you own
PS5 and DualSense Edge
Sony presents Edge as a PS5 controller. Its PC support is documented for Windows over USB or Bluetooth through PlayStation Accessories. On PC, the function buttons can switch among profiles saved on the controller. Sony also notes that haptics and adaptive triggers may require a USB connection and a game that supports those features. See Sony’s DualSense Edge product page for its documented setup and feature details; it is a Polish regional page.

Xbox, Windows, and mobile with Elite Series 2
Microsoft lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One support, with Xbox Wireless and USB-C connections. For Windows PCs and mobile devices, Microsoft lists Bluetooth or USB-C; some older Windows versions require a wired USB connection. Check the product and device requirements for your particular system before buying.

Immersion and control feel
What Edge adds to DualSense
Edge retains DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in games that support them. Its configuration options include remapping, stick sensitivity and dead-zone adjustments, trigger adjustments, and vibration adjustment. That combination makes it the more natural choice if you want to fine-tune a PS5 control setup without giving up supported DualSense effects.
What Elite Series 2 emphasizes
Elite Series 2 focuses on physical and app-based control customization: adjustable thumbstick tension, shorter hair-trigger locks, a wrap-around rubberized grip, and button mapping through the Xbox Accessories app. Those adjustments can suit players who want to alter stick resistance or shorten trigger travel, rather than prioritize adaptive effects.
Back buttons, profiles, and customization
Edge has two rear buttons, and Sony describes two sets of rear-button shapes. Elite Series 2 includes four paddles, so it provides more rear controls if you want to assign several actions without moving your thumbs from the sticks.

Both let you save configurations. Sony documents multiple Edge profiles and an on-controller interface for switching and adjusting them. Microsoft specifies up to three custom profiles plus a default profile for Elite Series 2. The exact number of profiles and the physical layout of back controls may matter more than the broad label “pro controller.”
Stick replacement and included components
DualSense Edge: a replaceable stick module
Sony explicitly announced a separate replaceable stick module for Edge. That is distinct from changing the cap that sits on a stick: the module itself can be replaced. Sony’s October 18, 2022 launch announcement listed the module at historical recommended prices of $19.99 USD, ¥2,680 including tax, €24.99, and £19.99. Those are launch-era figures, not confirmation of 2026 pricing or availability. Check the Sony announcement and local listings for current details.
Elite Series 2: swappable parts, not a documented stick module
Microsoft describes interchangeable stick toppers, D-pads, and paddles. These let you change the contact surface or control components, but they are not the same as replacing the analog-stick module. Do not assume that a swappable topper provides the same repair or replacement option as Edge’s replaceable module.

- Play like a pro with the Xbox elite wireless controller series 2
- Experience limitless customization and exclusive configuration options with the Xbox Accessories app
- Stay in the game for longer with upto 40 hours of rechargeable battery life. Use Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth, or the included USB C cable to play across your Xbox One and Windows 10 devices
- Compatible with Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Windows 10
Bundle contents also differ. Microsoft’s Canadian Store listing at access time showed the full Elite Series 2 with a charging dock, USB-C cable, four paddles, extra thumbsticks, an extra D-pad, an adjustment tool, and a carrying case. Its Core listing describes a more limited included set. The exact accessories matter when comparing the standard bundle with Elite Series 2 Core; verify the local listing, since the cited store page is Canadian and inventory or bundle contents can vary.

Battery life: manufacturer claim versus review test
Microsoft specifies an internal rechargeable battery with “up to 40 hours of battery life per charge,” and says actual battery life varies with usage and other factors. Treat 40 hours as a maximum claim, not a guaranteed typical result.
Sony’s cited product materials do not give a numeric runtime for Edge. In a review last updated April 25, 2024, TechRadar reported just over seven hours in its own Edge battery test and described Elite Series 2 endurance as around 35–40 hours. Those are the review’s observations, not a standardized head-to-head manufacturer test. Read TechRadar’s comparison for its testing context.
Price and value in 2026
Prices depend on region, retailer, and bundle. Sony’s October 2022 announcement set Edge’s historical launch recommended retail price at $199.99 USD, ¥29,980 including tax, €239.99, and £209.99. These are not current 2026 prices. The Microsoft Store page consulted was Canadian and displayed CAD $249.99 for the full Series 2 and CAD $184.99 for Core at access time; those figures are regional listing prices, not current US or worldwide prices.
Compare the exact package available where you live. The full Elite bundle’s dock and extra components may affect value relative to Core, while Edge’s replaceable stick module is a separate purchase. Check current local controller and replacement-part prices before deciding; older launch figures and review-era retailer prices are not reliable substitutes for a live quote.

Which controller should you buy?
- Choose DualSense Edge if you play on PS5, want supported haptics and adaptive triggers, or value a replaceable stick module and on-controller profile controls.
- Choose Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 if you play on Xbox, want adjustable stick tension, four paddles, or prefer Microsoft’s documented PC and mobile connection options.
- Compare the Elite full bundle with Core if accessories such as a charging dock, extra sticks, and a carrying case affect your decision.
- Check your platform before anything else if you expect one controller to work across consoles: the documented compatibility does not make either model a substitute for the other’s console controller.
