Delivery drone cameras and sensors are used for navigation, obstacle detection, and delivery—not necessarily for recording every home they pass. But people and property may enter a drone’s field of view, especially near a delivery point. Operators describe their data practices differently, and aviation approval is not a privacy guarantee. You can limit views through windows and document persistent concerns, but no consumer product is established as reliable protection against an overhead camera.
What can delivery drone cameras see?
A drone’s view can include objects along its route and around a delivery area. Amazon says its Prime Air MK30 uses cameras and other sensors to scan for hazards such as people, pets, vehicles, trees, power lines, and other aircraft. During delivery, it assesses the selected area and may change the delivery point if it detects a ground hazard. These capabilities make it possible for people or property to enter the drone’s view; they do not establish that a particular home was recorded or that imagery was retained. Amazon’s published MK30 flight profile
Amazon lists the MK30’s outbound cruising altitude as 205–250 feet above ground and its return cruising altitude as 325–370 feet. It says the aircraft descends to 13 feet above the selected delivery point before delivery. These are Amazon-published figures for this model, not universal altitudes for delivery drones; other aircraft, routes, and delivery methods may differ. Amazon Prime Air operations information

Policies vary by operator, and a statement that cameras are not watched live does not mean imagery is never captured or stored.

Amazon Prime Air
Amazon says its onboard cameras are for navigation and “are not viewed live or monitored by any person.” It also says data collected during a delivery is used for safety and to improve customer experience. Those are Amazon’s statements, not independently verified findings. The published page does not specify whether every flight stores imagery, how long any imagery is retained, or whether it is associated with a customer account. Zipline
Zipline’s privacy policy, dated August 26, 2026, says it may collect terrain, geodata, and imagery of delivery areas and adjacent areas. The policy says that imagery may include people or objects within a drone’s field of view and may be associated with an account. In an environmental review for College Station, Texas, the FAA recorded public concerns that Amazon drone cameras could capture and store visual data affecting people beyond package recipients. The agency responded that it was not authorized to impose regulations based on privacy concerns and said it would continue collaborating with agencies with privacy-law expertise. That response is specific to the FAA’s role in that review; it does not determine what privacy rights or remedies apply to an individual situation. FAA College Station environmental review
The reviewed sources do not settle state-by-state rules on surveillance, nuisance, trespass, or data protection, and they do not support a blanket conclusion about whether a particular flight over private property is lawful. For a persistent concern, check with the relevant state or local authority.

How to protect your home from delivery drone cameras
Limit views through windows
Close curtains or blinds, or use opaque window coverings, when a drone is nearby. This can block views through the covered windows; it does not protect outdoor areas.
Be realistic about outdoor barriers
Fences, screens, and shade structures may block some sightlines, but they cannot be relied on to prevent a camera above from seeing an outdoor space. The available operator disclosures do not establish a universally effective consumer product for preventing drone-camera capture.

Document persistent or unsafe activity
If flights recur or appear unsafe, note the date, time, location, visible operator markings, delivery activity, and what happened. Observe and document from a safe place. Do not interfere with the aircraft.
Contact the operator and the appropriate authority
Use the operator’s published privacy or contact channel to ask what imagery it collects, whether it is stored, how long it is kept, and how to submit a privacy request. Zipline lists a privacy contact in its policy; Amazon’s operations page links to its privacy information. For airspace or flight-safety concerns, contact aviation authorities; for privacy concerns, contact the operator and relevant local privacy authority. What to check when comparing operators
Public disclosures answer privacy questions unevenly. Treat missing details as unknown, not proof that no collection occurs. Look for clear answers to these points:

- Can imagery be linked to an account?
- Can people view imagery, or do they monitor only flight status?
- What are the stated uses, sharing practices, and privacy-request channels?
- Which local authority handles a privacy complaint?
