It can make hot rooms feel more comfortable, especially in dry heat, but it is not a portable air conditioner. Dreo’s headline claim of “up to 10°F perceived cooling” is a manufacturer specification, not an independent laboratory result. At about $199.99 in the US, the 765S makes the most sense for people who want room-level airflow plus optional misting and can manage a heavy, water-filled appliance.
What the Dreo TurboCool 765S is—and what it is not
The 765S is a corded, 120-volt indoor tower fan that combines conventional air movement with ultrasonic mist. A brushless DC motor drives the fan, while a removable water tank supplies the misting system. You can run the fan without water, or add mist when the air is hot and dry.

That distinction matters. A misting fan does not use a compressor or refrigerant, so it cannot remove heat from a room the way air conditioning does. Evaporation can make the air stream feel cooler, and the moving air improves comfort, but the effect depends heavily on humidity, airflow and where you place the unit. TechRadar’s practical assessment after using the 765S in several rooms was that it could lower room temperature somewhat, but did not approach air-conditioning-level cooling.

Dreo advertises “up to 10°F perceived cooling.” That is a company claim, not an independent test result. The same applies to the published maximum air speed, airflow and mist output figures below. They are useful for understanding the design, but they should not be read as a guarantee for every room.

How much cooling should you expect?
Best case: dry heat and close-range use
The 765S is most convincing when you are in the fan’s airflow and the room is not already saturated with moisture. Fine droplets can evaporate into dry air, taking some heat with them while the fan carries the cooler-feeling stream across your skin. This is why a misting fan can feel more effective than a conventional fan during a dry heat wave, even though it is not extracting heat from the room.
Dreo’s 34 ft/s air-speed and 1,770 CFM airflow claims indicate a high-output design. In practice, the useful question is whether the stream reaches your seating or sleeping position without becoming uncomfortable. The 90-degree oscillation can cover a broad area, but T3’s Sam Cross found the sweep wider than ideal for his particular room arrangement. A fixed or narrower setting may work better when you want airflow on one person rather than across a whole room.
When humidity limits the benefit
Evaporation slows as relative humidity rises. In a humid climate, adding mist can make the air feel heavy instead of refreshing. Ideal Home reproduced a user report that the 765S felt “tropical” when ambient air was already humid. That is an individual observation rather than a controlled test, but it illustrates the main limitation: misting is not automatically better than plain fan mode.
Use the humidity sensing and your own comfort as the guide. If the room already feels damp, start with the fan alone or the lowest mist setting. Keep the mist aimed into open air rather than at walls, electronics or fabric. The published 4-foot maximum mist distance suggests that the visible plume is concentrated near the tower, not a room-wide fog.
Why it cannot replace air conditioning
An air conditioner moves heat outdoors; the 765S only moves air and adds optional moisture. It can improve perceived comfort and may lower the temperature immediately around the airflow, but it will not deliver the sustained, whole-room temperature reduction expected from an AC system. TechRadar’s multi-room use reached the same practical conclusion. Treat the 765S as a supplement for hot days, not as an alternative when you need dependable temperature control.

Tank capacity and real-world runtime
The removable 6-liter tank is one of the 765S’s strongest practical features. Dreo rates it for “up to 24+ hours on Low” and “up to 7 hours on Turbo.” Those are mode-specific maximums: higher fan and mist output consume water faster, and the figures do not guarantee a particular overnight or workday runtime.
For a long, quiet session, use a low fan speed and restrained mist setting. Turbo is intended for maximum output and should be expected to use the reservoir much more quickly. If you need continuous operation during a hot day, check the tank before leaving the room and place the fan where lifting the reservoir will not require an awkward carry.

A full 6-liter tank weighs roughly 6 kilograms before adding the fan assembly. TechRadar lists the complete fan at 8 kg and specifically warns that handling the tank and fan together is weighty. The tank’s capacity reduces refill frequency, but it also increases the penalty for moving the appliance while full.
Controls, modes and everyday operation
Three ways to control it
The 765S can be operated from its touch controls, the included remote or a companion app. The remote comes with two AAA batteries. App control is useful when the fan is across a bedroom or living room, while the physical panel remains the simplest fallback if a phone is unavailable.
Dreo lists 12 fan speeds and four fan modes, giving you more adjustment than a basic three-speed tower. It also provides four mist modes. Exact labels and app screens can change with firmware or regional packaging, so use the current on-screen names rather than assuming a particular mode behaves like another Dreo model.

Sensors and automatic behavior
Humidity and temperature sensing allow the 765S to react to room conditions instead of relying only on a manually selected speed. Sleep mode is intended for nighttime use, and the child lock helps prevent accidental changes on the touch panel. Power-loss resume restores operation after an interruption, which is convenient if the fan is connected to a switched outlet or experiences a brief outage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSetting up the fan
- Place the tower on a level, stable indoor floor with clear space around the air outlet and oscillation path.
- Connect the 6-foot cord to a suitable 120-volt outlet before filling the reservoir.
- Remove the water tank, fill it according to the current model manual, and reinstall it securely. Do not infer additives, water treatment or cleaning intervals from generic humidifier advice.
- Start in ordinary fan mode to establish the airflow direction, then enable the lowest mist setting if the room is dry and the added moisture is comfortable.
- Adjust speed, oscillation and mist separately. A lower mist level with stronger airflow may feel cooler than maximum mist in a small room.
- For sleeping, select the quiet or sleep setting, check that the tank is seated, and engage the child lock if the touch panel is within reach.
Noise and bedroom suitability
Dreo lists a 20 dB night-mode figure, and TechRadar also reports 20 dBA for quiet mode. TechRadar measured a maximum of 65 dBA during its testing. These numbers come from different sources and conditions, so they are not a single standardized range. The practical takeaway is that the 765S can be configured for quiet overnight airflow, but its highest setting is clearly more audible.
Use quiet or sleep mode when you are close to the tower, especially in a bedroom. If you need to cool a larger space quickly before bedtime, run a higher speed while awake, then reduce it once the room feels comfortable. Oscillation noise and water-system sounds can vary with placement and surface levelness.
Does the mist make furniture or floors wet?
The 765S uses 17-micrometer particles and Dreo lists a maximum mist distance of 4 feet, so it is designed to disperse a fine plume rather than spray a stream of water. Ideal Home’s expert commentary said the fan would not leave furniture soggy, but the article identified that assessment as ongoing testing rather than a completed independent review.
That does not mean every setup is moisture-free. A high mist setting, short distance to a wall, blocked outlet or already-humid room can leave condensation on nearby surfaces. Keep the tower away from electronics, books, untreated wood and fabrics; avoid aiming the outlet directly at a wall; and inspect the surrounding floor during the first few uses. If surfaces feel damp, lower the mist level or switch to fan-only operation.

Size, placement and portability
The tall tower form saves floor width compared with a pedestal fan, but the 765S still needs room for its 90-degree sweep and a clear outlet path. T3 found the rotation broad for its room. In a compact bedroom, place it slightly off-center and limit oscillation if the airflow repeatedly misses the bed.
Portability is the trade-off for the large reservoir. At 8 kg before considering how awkward a full tank feels, this is not a fan you will casually carry from room to room several times a day. Decide where it will live, fill it close to that location, and empty it before moving it over stairs or across delicate flooring.
Price, package contents, returns and warranty
Dreo’s US product page displayed a price of $199.99 when checked in 2026. T3 reported £199.99 in the UK, €219.99 in Europe and US$199.99, with availability it identified at Amazon and Boots at the time of its July 8, 2026 review. Prices, stock and regional retailers can change, so treat those figures as dated snapshots rather than permanent pricing.
The package shown by Dreo contains the fan, one user manual, remote control and two AAA batteries. Dreo displayed a 30-day money-back period for undamaged returns, with the buyer responsible for return shipping on non-defective returns, plus a 12-month warranty against material and workmanship defects for new products. Confirm the current terms on the regional product page before buying, particularly if you are outside the US.

Care and safety information you should verify
A model-specific 23-page DR-HEC005S manual is available through Lowe’s product documents, but its PDF text was not extractable in the available material. Consequently, cleaning intervals, water-quality recommendations, prohibited additives and detailed safety procedures are not established here. Read that manual before operating the mist system and follow its instructions rather than importing generic humidifier practices.
Until you have checked the manual, keep the unit indoors as specified, use it on a stable surface, keep water away from electrical connections, and unplug it before moving or servicing the fan. Stop using mist if you see persistent condensation, unusual odors or water where it should not be, and consult the manufacturer’s instructions for the appropriate response.
Strengths and limitations at a glance

What to consider before buying
- The $199.99 US listed price is high for a fan if you will never use misting.
- The 8 kg reported weight becomes inconvenient when the tank is full.
- Mist adds moisture and may feel unpleasant in humid weather.
- Maximum airflow, cooling and runtime figures are manufacturer claims or ratings, not independent guarantees.
- It cannot provide compressor-based, AC-level cooling.
- Exact cleaning and water-care requirements must come from the model manual.
Who should buy the Dreo TurboCool 765S?
Buy it if you want a substantial indoor fan for hot weather, live in a climate where evaporation can help, value app and remote control, and prefer fewer water refills. It is particularly appealing for a living room, bedroom or open-plan area where people sit within the airflow and can tolerate the appliance’s weight.
Skip it if your main goal is to reduce a room’s measured temperature, if your climate is already humid, or if you need a lightweight fan that can move between rooms. In those cases, a conventional fan or an actual air conditioner may fit the problem better.
T3 reviewer Sam Cross summarized his positive hands-on experience during UK heat by writing: “Overall, this product has been a godsend during the excessive heat, allowing me to keep cool in spite of the temperatures.” That is a useful description of the 765S’s role: a capable personal-comfort appliance for hot conditions, with mist as an extra tool—not a replacement for refrigeration-based cooling.
