Its combination of photos, vectors, illustrations, editorial images, video, audio, credits, and subscriptions offers flexibility, but the best value depends on how often you download—and the license attached to each file. Prices vary by region and checkout offer, and “royalty-free” does not mean unrestricted use.
What is Dreamstime?
Dreamstime is a stock-media marketplace for royalty-free photos, vectors, illustrations, editorial imagery, video footage, music, and sound effects. Its homepage currently claims 369 million files, 60 million users, and 1.4 million contributors; these are Dreamstime’s own site figures, not independently audited market statistics. The homepage also advertises downloads from $0.23 USD or free. That is a starting claim, not a guarantee that a particular file or plan will cost that amount.
The catalog breadth is useful if a project needs more than still photography. It does not establish that a specific search will return the right asset: inspect the file itself, its releases, and its license before using it.
How Dreamstime pricing works
Dreamstime’s main buying choices are recurring subscriptions for ongoing volume and credit packs for occasional or irregular downloads. Its regional credits page also lists specialist video and audio plans, extended-license plans, annual subscriptions, corporate multi-seat options, and an Unlimited Downloads offer displayed at $40 per month. That figure is a regional page offer accessed in 2026, not a universal rate. Prices and availability can vary with location, taxes, billing period, promotions, media type, and checkout details.
#1 Best Overall
As a separate price snapshot, G2’s 2026 summary reports a displayed plan range of $14.99 to $2,028. It is not a universal Dreamstime price list; the range spans plans whose terms and included volume can differ. Check the current checkout for the actual price and conditions before buying.
| Buying route | Best fit | Price information available |
|---|---|---|
| Credit packs | Occasional or irregular downloads when a recurring commitment may go unused. | Dreamstime’s regional credits page lists packs, but a universal current price is not stated; check regional checkout. |
| Subscription | Regular downloading when the included volume and billing term match expected use. | A universal subscription price is not stated. G2 reports a $14.99–$2,028 displayed plan range in its 2026 summary; terms vary by plan. |
| Unlimited Downloads | High-volume use only when each asset’s single-context license suits the intended use. | A regional credits page displayed $40/month when accessed in 2026; location and offer conditions apply. |
| Specialist media or team plans | Video, audio, extended rights, or multi-seat corporate workflows. | Prices are not stated as universal rates; confirm the current regional offer and terms. |
To compare the effective cost, estimate how many downloads you can actually use within the billing period, then compare that volume with the credit-pack cost and any plan restrictions. A low-frequency buyer may find a subscription wasteful or a single credit relatively expensive. Do not compare a photo-only price with video or audio plans as though the assets and terms were equivalent.
What license do you get?
Dreamstime’s standard royalty-free model lets a buyer pay once for permitted use without paying a royalty each time the asset is reused. It does not transfer ownership of the underlying photo or video, and the permitted uses remain subject to the applicable license. Extended licenses may add rights such as unlimited seats, but not every file is eligible for every extension.
Free-section files
Free downloads have a limited royalty-free license. Dreamstime’s terms state that free files can be limited to 10,000 physical copies. For unsubscribed members, or after a subscription ends, the license is valid for six months after the initial download or subscription end, subject to the full terms. Check the terms for the specific file and your account status rather than assuming free means unrestricted or permanent.

The Unlimited Downloads policy is different from ordinary royalty-free licensing: each download grants a single-use, non-exclusive, non-transferable license for one specific context, such as a blog post, social ad, brochure, web page, printed document, or presentation. It prohibits automated mass downloading and downloading assets for future use after the subscription ends. If you need one image across several distinct projects, confirm that the plan’s terms permit those uses before downloading.
Editorial, client, and other sensitive uses
Editorial files, model or property releases, sensitive subjects, third-party assignments, client work, seats, and print runs can all affect whether a particular use is allowed. Review the file-level details and relevant license before publishing or advertising. Keep the download record and the license shown in Dreamstime’s management area so you can verify the terms attached to the asset later.
Is Dreamstime suitable for commercial use?
It can be, when the selected asset’s license and restrictions match the intended commercial use. Standard royalty-free licensing supports repeated use within its permitted scope, but commercial intent alone does not settle whether a use is allowed. Check the exact file, any release information, the license type, and relevant limits—especially when using editorial imagery, involving clients or multiple seats, or exceeding a print-run limit.
Free files and Unlimited Downloads carry their own limits, and an extended license may be needed for broader rights. If a project depends on a particular permission, confirm that the file is eligible and that the permission is included before relying on it.

Dreamstime publishes example revenue shares of 25% for non-exclusive files, 27.5% for exclusive files, and 60% for exclusive users. These are displayed reference or maximum values, not guaranteed earnings on every download. The contributor page also lists $0.20 per accepted upload for exclusive users. File levels rise as downloads accumulate, which can increase the price and royalty value.
Rank #4
| Contributor route or factor | Published information | What it means for earnings |
|---|---|---|
| Non-exclusive file | 25% example revenue share on Dreamstime’s current displayed contributor table. | Reference share; realized payout depends on the transaction and file. |
| Exclusive file | 27.5% example revenue share on the current displayed table. | Exclusivity changes the share, but does not establish a fixed per-download amount. |
| Exclusive user | 60% example revenue share and $0.20 per accepted upload on the current displayed table. | These are displayed reference values; acceptance and applicable terms matter. |
| Package, license, and file level | The contributor FAQ explains that buyer package value affects the credit value; license type and file level also affect payout. | Actual earnings can differ even for the same nominal credit count. |
Dreamstime’s contributor FAQ illustrates the package effect with an 8-credit image and a reference package value of $1.25 per credit, producing different non-exclusive and exclusive royalties than a larger package with a lower per-credit value. That is an example, not a standard payout rate. Contributors can choose non-exclusive contributions, exclusive files, or full exclusivity under the relevant terms; model earnings around buyer package, license, exclusivity, file level, taxes, and any alliance download. No median contributor income is established by the published figures here.

- Broad media mix: still images, vectors, illustrations, editorial content, video, music, and sound effects are available through one marketplace.
- Several buying paths: free files, credits, subscriptions, specialist media plans, and corporate accounts accommodate different usage patterns.
- Flexible standard rights: standard royalty-free licensing can cover permitted repeat uses, with some extended-license options for broader needs.
- Contributor options: Dreamstime publishes share examples and supports both exclusive and non-exclusive routes.
- Variable value and fit: prices depend on plan and region, while search relevance and asset quality can vary by file and contributor. Check the specific asset rather than treating the marketplace as uniform.
- Rights require attention: free assets, Unlimited downloads, editorial use, extended rights, seats, print volumes, and client assignments do not all follow one rule.
There are no established independent figures here for Dreamstime’s conversion rate, average buyer spend, contributor median income, approval rate, search relevance, or customer-support response time. Testimonials or individual experiences should not be treated as marketplace-wide performance data.
Who should use Dreamstime?
Dreamstime is a reasonable shortlist candidate for bloggers, freelancers, publishers, marketers, small businesses, agencies, and teams that need a mix of still and moving or audio assets. It is most compelling when you can use recurring volume or benefit from choosing among credits, subscriptions, and team workflows.
Recommended Free Tools
It may be a weaker fit for someone who needs only a rare one-off download, highly specialized premium video, or rights-managed licensing. In those cases, compare the actual asset and license with alternatives before committing to a plan.
Teams and integrations
Dreamstime documents API integration and describes an affiliate-revenue angle for publishers and software builders that integrate its features into a plugin, app, or website. That description is not proof of an open public affiliate signup, nor does it establish commission terms, cookie duration, or geographic availability. Teams should separately confirm account administration, seats, and current enterprise pricing for their workflow.
Verdict
Dreamstime’s 2026 value proposition is breadth plus buying flexibility. It can work well for buyers with recurring, varied media needs who are prepared to check file-level rights and compare live regional pricing. For contributors, it is one possible distribution channel—not a predictable income stream—with payout shaped by package economics, license, exclusivity, and file level.
