For a typical one-quarterback fantasy lineup in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season, bench Drake Maye if you have a viable alternative. NFL Fantasy’s Matt Okada labeled him a notable sit after he averaged 7.2 fantasy points per game with one touchdown and six giveaways through three weeks. Maye was available for the Bills game, however: New England reported that he practiced fully all week and had no game designation. This is a performance-based call, not an injury-based one.
Why Maye is a sit for a standard one-quarterback lineup
In its September 30, 2026 Week 4 start/sit column, NFL Fantasy recommends keeping Maye on the bench until his play changes significantly. NFL.com’s Week 4 quarterback index reinforces the caution: it ranks Maye 31st, down 11 places, and notes that he had three giveaways in Week 3.

The sources describe his early-season turnovers in different ways, so keep their figures distinct. NFL Fantasy reports one touchdown and six giveaways through three games. NFL.com’s index lists 585 passing yards, one passing touchdown, six interceptions, 82 rushing yards and two fumbles for that span. The index does not label those two fumbles as lost, so they should not be added to the interception total as though they were all turnovers.

Was Maye healthy enough to play?
Yes, based on the Week 4 reports. New England said Maye participated fully in all three practices and had no game designation for Sunday after a right shoulder issue appeared on the report. The official NFL injury report likewise listed full participation and no game-status designation. He was not ruled out or listed as doubtful; the recommendation to sit him was about fantasy performance.

Which alternatives should you compare?
NFL Fantasy’s Week 4 column names three options to investigate if they are on your roster or available in your league. These are source-backed candidates, not a universal ranking for every scoring system.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Quarterback | Week 4 signal from NFL Fantasy | How to use the information |
|---|---|---|
| Tyler Shough | Named Start of the Week; recorded at least 22 fantasy points in each of his first three games. | Compare his recent production with Maye’s, then account for your league’s scoring and the Week 4 matchup. |
| Bryce Young | Named a notable start against Detroit; the article says he led the NFL in passing yards at publication. | Consider him if available, particularly if your scoring rewards passing production; check how your league values rushing and turnovers, too. |
| Brock Purdy | Recommended as a start against Denver; the article described him as QB2 in fantasy at publication. | His published ranking makes him worth comparing with Maye, but your lineup decision still depends on format, scoring and alternatives. |

How to choose based on your league and roster
- Start with your format. In a standard one-quarterback league, prefer a viable alternative to Maye. In superflex or two-quarterback formats, quarterback scarcity can make Maye your best available starter even when the outlook is poor.
- Compare the players you can actually start. Use recent fantasy output and turnovers, rushing contribution, the Week 4 opponent and each player’s current game status. Do not assume an alternative is better just because it appears in a start list.
- Apply your scoring rules. Passing-yardage bonuses, interception penalties, fumble scoring and rushing points can change the comparison. A quarterback’s published fantasy total may not match your league’s scoring.
- Make the decision for this slate. The cited recommendation is for Week 4 of 2026. Recheck availability and current matchup information rather than carrying the call forward to another week.
