The Finder’s Token is not in one fixed, game-wide location. After the Sphinx gives you the Riddle of Rumination, it appears where you picked up your first Seeker’s Token in your current playthrough. Return to that original pickup spot, collect the Finder’s Token, and bring it back to the Sphinx within seven in-game days. Walkthroughs report a reward of three Ferrystones.
The answer in one sentence
Your answer to the Riddle of Rumination is the location of your own first Seeker’s Token pickup in this save. The game checks your earliest Seeker’s Token collection during the current playthrough and places the Finder’s Token there. A map coordinate copied from another player’s guide will only work if that player happened to find their first token in the same place you did.

Quest and location
The puzzle is part of A Game of Wits, the Sphinx quest sequence at the Mountain Shrine. Guides describe reaching the shrine through the Ancient Battleground and Worldsend Cavern, or by crossing the hills from the Misty Marshes. The approach you use does not change the answer; the important event is accepting the Riddle of Rumination from the Sphinx.

Finder’s Token versus Seeker’s Token
A Seeker’s Token is the collectible you found earlier while exploring. The Finder’s Token is the special item that appears at the location of your first such pickup after the riddle begins. It is the quest item you must recover and return, not a second universal collectible spot that every player can look up.
Deadline and reward
Multiple walkthroughs give you seven in-game days to return the Finder’s Token to the Sphinx. Those same guides report three Ferrystones as the reward. The figures come from secondary game guides, so treat the timer and payout as quest rules to respect in your game rather than as an officially published Capcom specification.

How to complete the riddle
- Accept the Riddle of Rumination. Speak with the Sphinx at the Mountain Shrine and make sure the riddle has started before you begin searching. The Finder’s Token is tied to that quest state.
- Identify your earliest Seeker’s Token pickup in this playthrough. Think back to the first area where you explored thoroughly enough to collect one. Do not use another player’s “answer location” as a substitute: the first pickup is different from save to save.
- Return to that original spot. Travel to the same nest, ruin, hill, cave, roadside structure or other landmark where you collected the first token. The Finder’s Token should be waiting there once the riddle is active.
- Pick up the Finder’s Token. Confirm that you have recovered the quest item before leaving the area. If you are checking an uncertain location, search the immediate surroundings and the exact landmark rather than assuming a nearby token was the one recorded by the game.
- Go back to the Mountain Shrine. Deliver the Finder’s Token to the Sphinx before the reported seven-day in-game deadline expires. Walkthroughs list three Ferrystones for a successful return.
Why a fixed map guide can send you to the wrong place
Many Seeker’s Tokens are scattered throughout the world, so a guide writer can accurately show where they found a token without showing where your Finder’s Token will be. The riddle uses the first pickup in your own current run as its reference point. A location that solved the puzzle for a guide, streamer or friend is therefore an example, not a universal solution.

New Game Plus does not turn a previous run’s first-token location into the answer for the new run. The walkthrough guidance for this riddle treats the current playthrough as the relevant record. If you started a new cycle, use the earliest Seeker’s Token you collected in that cycle, even if you remember a different first token from an earlier run.
How to reconstruct your first token location when you cannot remember
Start with your opening exploration route
Think chronologically rather than geographically. Recall the first towns, camps and roads you visited after beginning this playthrough, then list places where you deliberately climbed, investigated a nest or checked a side path. Your first token is likely to be associated with one of those earliest detours, not necessarily the first token you remember seeing in a guide.
- Review the first region you explored before opening a large portion of the map.
- Remember early climbs, small hills, ruined structures, caves and monster nests that you searched completely.
- Separate pickups from tokens you only noticed. The relevant event is collecting the first Seeker’s Token.
- Use distinctive landmarks—such as a campsite, bridge, ruin or settlement—to rebuild the route in your head.
Search likely spots systematically
If your memory produces several candidates, visit them in the order you probably explored them. At each one, inspect the exact object or terrain feature where a token was collected, then widen the search to the immediate area. Keep a short list so you do not repeatedly revisit the same location without learning anything.

A GameSpot walkthrough gives one illustrative example: its author’s first Seeker’s Token was in a nest on a small hill north of the campsite outside Melve. That explains the kind of location to check if your early route passed through Melve, but it is not the answer for every save. Only use it as a lead when it matches your own first exploration.

Use your own notes and screenshots
Check any personal map marks, screenshots, clips or play notes from the beginning of the run. A note that says you “found the first token” is more useful than a general collectible map because the riddle cares about order, not simply whether a location contains a Seeker’s Token.
Can the Detection augment help?
The Trickster vocation’s Detection augment is worth trying if you are revisiting several possible token sites. GameSpot mentions it as a possible way to detect tokens, but its walkthrough does not confirm that Detection will reveal the Finder’s Token specifically. Treat it as an experiment, not a guaranteed locator.

- Equip the augment before checking your candidate areas if you already have access to it.
- Do not conclude that a silent Detection result proves the location is wrong; the Finder’s Token’s interaction with the augment is not established by the cited walkthrough.
- Continue using your reconstructed route and landmarks as the primary method.
A practical search plan if the first pickup is completely forgotten
- Write down the first ten or so places you remember visiting. Include only locations from the current playthrough.
- Mark which places contained deliberate exploration. A token pickup requires more than merely passing along a road, so prioritize nests, elevated ledges, ruins and side paths you actually investigated.
- Rank the candidates by likely visit order. Start with the earliest plausible location rather than the most famous token spot.
- Inspect each candidate’s exact landmark. Search the nest, hilltop, ruin or other feature where a pickup would have occurred, then check its immediate perimeter.
- Stop when the Finder’s Token appears. Once you find it, return to the Mountain Shrine immediately enough to stay within the reported seven-day window.
This approach is slower than following a single online coordinate, but it matches the puzzle’s design and avoids wasting the deadline on locations that solved someone else’s save.

You found a Seeker’s Token there earlier, but nothing is present
First verify that the Riddle of Rumination is active. Then confirm that the token you remember collecting was in this playthrough and was actually your first, rather than an early token you found after another pickup. Revisit the exact landmark, not just the surrounding region. A nearby collectible can make an area look correct while still being the wrong recorded location.

Use the order in which you explored them. The riddle is based on the earliest pickup, so later tokens do not replace it. If you cannot establish the order, search the candidates systematically and keep track of each inspection; the Finder’s Token will identify the correct one when found.
You are relying on a New Game Plus memory
Discard the old run’s answer and reconstruct the beginning of the current cycle. The relevant first pickup is tied to the current playthrough according to the available walkthrough guidance.
The seven-day period may have passed
The guides cited for this quest report a seven in-game day limit. If you believe that period has expired, check the quest state in your game rather than assuming the item will remain available indefinitely. The available guidance does not establish a universal recovery procedure for a failed attempt, so avoid treating an unverified workaround as guaranteed.
Can Ibrahim’s Scrap Store duplicate the Finder’s Token?
One secondary guide claims that Ibrahim’s Scrap Store can duplicate a Finder’s Token. That workaround is not corroborated by the other walkthrough guidance available for this puzzle. If you test it in your own game, regard the result as an unverified option rather than the normal solution, and do not rely on it instead of locating your first pickup before the deadline.
How Seeker’s Tokens fit into the wider game
A community wiki reports 240 Seeker’s Tokens scattered through the game and says they can be exchanged at a Vocation Guild. That collectible total and exchange information are useful background for completionists, but they do not change the Riddle of Rumination’s rule: the Finder’s Token is keyed to the first Seeker’s Token you collected in the current playthrough.
You do not need a printed guide, a special physical edition or an accessory to solve this individualized location puzzle. The essential information is your own exploration history, the active riddle and the return deadline.
Quick checklist before you leave the shrine
- Quest active: You accepted the Riddle of Rumination from the Sphinx at the Mountain Shrine.
- Correct run: You are using the first Seeker’s Token from the current playthrough, not a previous cycle.
- Correct landmark: You returned to the exact place of that earliest pickup.
- Item recovered: You picked up the Finder’s Token itself.
- Time remaining: You are still within the reported seven in-game days.
- Return destination: You are taking it back to the Sphinx at the Mountain Shrine.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using a universal coordinate: Another player’s first-token location is not automatically yours.
- Confusing sighting with pickup: Seeing a token does not establish that it was your first collected token.
- Searching before starting the riddle: Make sure the Sphinx has posed the Riddle of Rumination before expecting the Finder’s Token to appear.

- Ignoring the timer: Plan the return trip around the reported seven in-game days instead of spending the entire period checking random token locations.
