Short answer: the comparison cannot be made on equal terms yet. Capcom’s cited Dragon’s Dogma 2 support material links to an online manual, but it does not establish “Relics” as an official item category or describe a relic mechanic. Blizzard, by contrast, has explicitly documented Diablo IV Legendary powers and, in the Season 4: Loot Reborn update, explained that salvaging Legendary items stores their powers as reusable Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power.
Until the exact Dragon’s Dogma 2 label and behavior are confirmed in the current game or an official manual, calling the two systems equivalent would turn an unverified term into a game mechanic. The reliable comparison is therefore between a documented Diablo IV system and a Dragon’s Dogma 2 term that still needs verification.

What the evidence actually confirms
The phrase “Dragon’s Dogma 2 Relics” is not substantiated by the cited Capcom material. Capcom Support’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 page leads to an online manual hub, accessed October 13, 2026, but the material surfaced for this comparison does not define Relics as a formal category, explain how they are obtained, or describe what they do. A Capcom-domain search for “relic” in connection with Dragon’s Dogma 2 also returned no result in the cited check.

That absence is not proof that no player, translation, quest, mod, guide, or later in-game text uses the word. It means only that the official material cited here does not establish the premise. A current in-game label could differ by language, platform, edition, or a post-launch update. Any direct comparison should wait for the exact wording shown in the game or in a current Capcom manual.

Diablo IV is better documented on this point. Blizzard’s November 1, 2019 feature overview described Legendary powers as effects designed to change how abilities play. Blizzard’s May 2, 2024 Season 4: Loot Reborn article later described a salvage-based process in which salvaging Legendary items stores their powers as Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power for reuse. The 2019 article is design context, not a complete statement of every current item rule.
Blizzard’s Diablo IV team summarized the design goal this way: “Legendaries should fundamentally change the gameplay of abilities, and that’s exactly the approach we’re taking in Diablo IV.” The surfaced source attributes the sentence to the Diablo IV team rather than to a named individual.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: why “Relics” needs a terminology check
The official category is not established
An item comparison starts with a basic question: is the word in the title the game’s own term? For Dragon’s Dogma 2, the cited official support result does not answer yes. It provides a manual hub, but no surfaced passage identifies Relics as a named equipment, loot, quest, or progression category.
That distinction matters because a familiar word can describe something different in a fan guide, translation, inventory filter, or another game. “Relic” might be an informal description, a localized term, or a reference to a quest object rather than a reusable build component. Without the exact interface label and its item description, there is no defensible way to assign it Diablo-style properties.

What is still unknown
The cited material does not establish any of the following for a Dragon’s Dogma 2 item called Relic:
- Whether Relic is an official category at all.
- Whether a Relic is equipment, a consumable, a quest object, a collectible, or another type of inventory entry.
- How a player obtains one.
- Whether it has a power, stat bonus, passive effect, or narrative function.
- Whether its effect can be extracted, transferred, copied, or reused.
- Whether the item is consumed when activated or remains in the player’s inventory.
- Whether it changes a vocation or build in a way comparable to a Diablo Legendary power.
- Whether the term appears consistently across languages, platforms, and current versions.
No named drop rate, item count, performance figure, or quotation about Dragon’s Dogma 2 Relics is established by the cited sources. Supplying any of those details would require evidence beyond what is available here.
How Diablo IV Legendary items are documented
Legendary powers are intended to alter ability gameplay
Blizzard’s 2019 Diablo IV Feature Overview presents Legendary powers as gameplay-changing effects rather than merely higher numbers on an item. The overview uses Sorceress Teleport as an example of the design direction: a Legendary effect can change what an ability does or how it is used. Because the article predates the game’s later itemization updates, it should be read as a design explanation, not as a complete current manual.

The important point for this comparison is functional. A Legendary power is meant to affect the way a build operates. It is not simply a label for an unusually rare object. The precise effects, slots, values, and restrictions can change as Diablo IV is updated, so those details should be checked against current in-game text rather than inferred from the 2019 overview.

Season 4 connected salvage with reusable Aspects
In its May 2, 2024 Season 4: Loot Reborn itemization article, Blizzard described a system in which salvaging a Legendary item stores its power as a Legendary Aspect in the Codex of Power. The stored Aspect can then be reused, making the power part of a persistent collection rather than tying it permanently to the original piece of equipment.
This creates two separate concepts that are easy to blur:
- The Legendary item: the item that carries the power when it drops or is acquired.
- The Legendary Aspect in the Codex: the stored version of the power after the relevant salvage process, available for reuse under the game’s current rules.
That salvage-and-storage relationship is the clearest documented mechanical difference between Diablo IV’s Legendary system and an ordinary one-time item effect. It also explains why “Legendary” is not synonymous with “permanent gear.” The original item can be processed, while the power becomes a reusable entry in the Codex.

| How the player obtains the item | Not stated in the cited Capcom material. | The cited Blizzard sources do not provide a complete current acquisition table. |
| Can the power be retained separately? | Not stated in the cited Capcom material. | Blizzard’s Season 4 article says salvaging a Legendary stores its power as a Legendary Aspect in the Codex of Power. |
| Can the stored power be reused? | Not stated in the cited Capcom material. | The Season 4 article describes Codex-stored Legendary Aspects as reusable. |
| Does the item get consumed or remain intact? | Not stated in the cited Capcom material. | The Season 4 salvage process separates the power from the Legendary item; current item behavior should be checked in-game. |
| Effect on builds | Not established. | Blizzard’s stated design goal is to make Legendary powers fundamentally change ability gameplay. |
| Published numerical statistics | No named statistic is established by the cited sources. | No drop rate, item count, or performance statistic is established by the cited sources. |
The table is intentionally uneven. It reflects the evidence, not an assumption that the two games must expose the same kind of item. A blank or invented Dragon’s Dogma 2 mechanic would make the comparison look more complete while making it less reliable.

What to verify before treating a Dragon’s Dogma 2 item as a counterpart
If you have the game open, verify the term directly rather than relying on a headline or a translated guide. Record the exact spelling, capitalization, and menu location shown by the current build.
- Find the exact label. Open the inventory, equipment, storage, quest, or collection screen where the item appears. Copy the label exactly as displayed, including whether it is singular or plural.
- Read the item description. Determine whether the entry describes a stat, passive effect, ability modification, quest purpose, crafting use, or lore only.
- Identify its category. Note whether the interface classifies it as equipment, an item used from the inventory, a key or quest object, a collectible, or another category.
- Check acquisition instructions. The description or game systems should indicate whether it comes from an enemy, chest, quest, vendor, crafting recipe, exploration activity, or another source. Do not infer a drop method from the word “relic.”
- Test retention safely. If the game offers an activation, equip, sell, discard, or combine action, check whether the item remains available afterward. Avoid sacrificing a unique item until the interface clearly explains the result.
- Look for transfer or extraction commands. A genuine build component may expose a way to move, copy, extract, or apply its effect. The absence of such a command is useful evidence that it is not functioning like Diablo IV’s Codex-linked power, although it does not by itself define the item.
- Check version and language. Record the platform, game version, and language. A term used in a fan translation or one regional text string should not automatically be presented as the universal English category.
- Compare the current official manual. Use the latest Capcom manual or support entry that matches the game version. The cited support hub alone does not provide the missing definition.
Why the two labels should not be treated as equivalents
A name is not a mechanic
“Relic” and “Legendary” both sound like rarity or importance labels, but that similarity says nothing about how the systems work. Diablo IV’s documented Legendary power has a defined relationship to ability gameplay and, after salvage, to the Codex of Power. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has no corresponding behavior established for the title’s Relics term in the cited official material.
Different games use different progression models
Even if a Dragon’s Dogma 2 item eventually proves to grant a passive or special effect, it might still differ from Diablo IV’s model in every operational detail. It could be permanently attached to a weapon, consumed once, tied to a quest, unavailable for extraction, or unrelated to vocation optimization. Those are not interchangeable outcomes.

Blizzard’s 2019 overview is useful for understanding the intended role of Legendary powers, but it predates the Season 4 itemization article. The later salvage-and-Codex explanation is the stronger source for that specific relationship. Neither source should be used to fill in unreported Dragon’s Dogma 2 rules, and the 2019 article should not be treated as a complete list of Diablo IV’s current item details.

Common claims that should be avoided
- “Dragon’s Dogma 2 Relics are the equivalent of Diablo Legendary items.” No official definition for the Dragon’s Dogma 2 term is established by the cited material.
- “Relics can be salvaged into a collection.” That is documented for Diablo IV Legendary items and the Codex of Power, not for an unverified Dragon’s Dogma 2 category.
- “Relics change vocation abilities.” The cited sources provide no such Dragon’s Dogma 2 claim.
- “Both games have the same rarity tiers, drop rates, or item counts.” No named statistic for either system is supplied in the cited material.
- “The absence of the word in one search proves the item does not exist.” The search result establishes an evidence gap, not a universal negative across every translation, update, or in-game screen.
A precise way to describe the difference today
The defensible description is that Diablo IV has a documented Legendary system in which Legendary powers are intended to reshape ability gameplay, and Blizzard’s Season 4 documentation says those powers can be stored as reusable Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power after salvaging the Legendary item.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s supposed Relics cannot yet be described with the same precision from the cited official sources. The Capcom support material points to an online manual but does not verify Relics as a formal category or reveal their purpose, acquisition method, persistence, or build impact. A comparison can become specific only after the exact current in-game or manual terminology is confirmed.
What this means for players choosing a build
For Diablo IV, evaluate a Legendary by the behavior of its power: identify which ability or interaction it changes, decide whether that change supports the intended build, and consider whether salvaging it into the Codex is preferable to retaining the original item under the current season’s rules.
For Dragon’s Dogma 2, do not make a build decision based solely on the word “Relic.” First establish what the item is, what action activates or equips it, and whether the effect is permanent, transferable, or consumable. If those details are absent from the item description and current manual, the term is not yet a reliable basis for a system-to-system comparison.
