Keep a quest item accessible until the objective advances or the game confirms delivery. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has item storage through an innkeeper, but Capcom’s documented storage guidance does not establish that every quest item can be deposited safely at every stage. If you put one away, retrieve it before speaking to the recipient or entering the next objective.
The safe rule for quest items
Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not provide a single, officially documented rule saying that every active quest item works from storage. Capcom confirms that storage is available through the innkeeper menu, but the support guidance does not define quest-by-quest behavior for stored items. That distinction matters: a general storage feature is not proof that a particular delivery objective can draw directly from storage.

Use this conservative procedure:
- Read the active quest’s exact objective and note the item, recipient, location, and any condition mentioned.
- Keep the item with the Arisen or a party member you can inspect reliably while the delivery step is active.
- If weight management requires storage, deposit the item at an innkeeper, then retrieve it before interacting with the recipient or quest target.
- Wait for the objective text or quest state to advance before selling, discarding, combining, or moving the item again.
This approach avoids assuming that all quest items behave alike. It also protects you from a common mistake: arriving at the correct person with the correct quest selected, but without the required object in an accessible inventory.
Where Dragon’s Dogma 2 storage is accessed
Use the innkeeper menu
Capcom’s support FAQ says bonus items appear in in-game storage accessible through the innkeeper menu. When you reach an inn, open the innkeeper’s storage option and inspect the item list. The official guidance establishes the access point, not a universal guarantee that every quest stage accepts an item left there.

Storage versus quest acceptance
These are separate questions:
| Question | What is established | How to act |
|---|---|---|
| Where do I reach stored items? | Through the innkeeper menu, according to Capcom’s support FAQ. | Use an innkeeper to deposit or retrieve items. |
| Can this specific quest use an item while it is stored? | Not established as a universal rule in the official material reviewed. | Retrieve the item before the delivery interaction if you are unsure. |
A guide or player report may describe a particular quest accepting a stored item, but that should not be generalized to every quest. Treat the quest objective and the game’s resulting state as the authority for your current step.
How to carry a required item without losing it
Keep the item on a controlled inventory
The safest place during an active delivery is the Arisen’s inventory or a pawn whose equipment and item list you are checking yourself. Avoid leaving the object on a pawn you are about to dismiss, replace, or send into a situation where its status may change.
Do not discard or sell an item merely because its category looks ordinary. The sources reviewed do not provide a complete list of quest-item labels or a rule that identifies every object by a special icon. Until the objective advances, treat an unusual object mentioned by the quest as potentially required.
Manage weight without abandoning the objective
If the item is heavy or your inventory is full, use an innkeeper’s storage for other supplies first. Move excess weapons, armor, crafting materials, and consumables out of the active inventory, then keep the quest object accessible. If you must store the quest object itself, record its name, leave the quest selected, and retrieve it before the next conversation or handover.

Check the objective after every handoff
A successful delivery should produce a visible change: the objective text updates, a new step appears, a reward becomes available, or the quest otherwise confirms progress. If nothing changes, stop moving the item around and verify the objective, recipient, conditions, and item location before trying again.
What happens when a pawn loses an item
Forfeit recovery
Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 FAQ states: “Furthermore, when a pawn becomes forfeit, any items they held will automatically be sent to item storage.” If a pawn disappears from your party because it becomes forfeit and an item seems to have vanished, inspect item storage through an innkeeper before assuming it was destroyed.
This recovery rule means a forfeit pawn is not the same as permanently losing its carried items. It does not, however, mean that the game will automatically place a stored quest item into your inventory when you approach a recipient. Retrieve the object yourself and verify the objective afterward.

Hawker and Logistician specializations
Capcom also warns that the Hawker and Logistician specializations can alter carried inventory through automatic transfers or sales. If a quest item is missing from a pawn, check both that pawn’s current inventory and item storage. A specialization may have changed where an item is held or whether it remains in the party’s carried supplies.

- The deep, explorable fantasy world of Dragon's Dogma... Dragon's Dogma is a narrative-driven, single-player action RPG that challenges players to shape their own experience—from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, and their party, to how they approach various situations and much more.
Before dismissing a pawn with an important object, inspect its inventory and move the object to the Arisen or storage deliberately. This gives you a known location instead of relying on an automatic transfer.
Finding the correct quest target
Markers are not guaranteed
Capcom’s FAQ says: “There are some quests that do not show a marker on the map, and there are some with a marker that appears or disappears over time.” The absence of a marker does not by itself prove that the quest is broken, and a marker’s disappearance does not necessarily mean the objective has been abandoned.
Read the quest text closely and compare it with the current map, location names, and time of day. Some steps require a condition to be met even after you reach the marked area. Reaching a door, building, or settlement is therefore not always sufficient to trigger the next event.

Dead NPCs are sent to a morgue
If the recipient may have died, Capcom says dead NPCs are sent to the Vermund Charnel House or the Battahl Morgue. Check the morgue appropriate to the NPC’s region, then reassess the quest objective. A missing NPC is not automatically evidence that the item is wrong or that storage caused the problem.
What to do when the quest will not advance
Run this inventory and objective check
- Open the active quest and identify the exact current objective, not an earlier instruction.
- Confirm the required item is present with the Arisen or a party member you can inspect.
- If it was stored, retrieve it from an innkeeper before attempting the interaction again.
- Check storage if a pawn became forfeit or has Hawker or Logistician specialization.
- Revisit the recipient at a different time if the NPC follows a schedule.
- Check the Vermund Charnel House or Battahl Morgue if the NPC may have died.
- Look for an unstated prerequisite, a condition at the marked location, or a quest step that has not yet been triggered.
Use in-game guidance when the condition is unclear
With the quest set as priority, seek a hint at a Diviner’s Salon or Reverent Shrine if you cannot determine the next condition. These locations can help clarify what the game expects when a marker or recipient is not obvious. A hint does not replace checking the item’s location; it addresses the objective, while storage and inventory checks address possession.
Do not repeatedly sell, discard, or duplicate-test the item
When a handoff fails, repeated item transfers can make the situation harder to diagnose. Keep one known copy in a known inventory, leave the quest prioritized, and change one variable at a time: retrieve the item, revisit at another time, or satisfy the suspected condition. The official material does not establish a universal recovery behavior for every quest object, so controlled troubleshooting is safer than experimenting with irreversible actions.

Using Ferrystones for long quest deliveries
How Portcrystal travel works
The official manual states: “Use of a Ferrystone will instantly transport you to the location of a Portcrystal.” This can shorten a long delivery trip when the destination and quest state permit fast travel.
Best Value
- Relic Expedition Cycle – Throughout their journey in the kingdom of Norgan, the Arisen must unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
- New Dungeon Challenges – The 12 freshly uncovered Lost Rites dungeons house trials designed by the Pathfinder to sharpen the Arisen’s skills and recover rare equipment once held by past Arisen that now lay dormant.
- Deeper Character Customization – New tattoo and hair options have been added to the already robust character creation tool in Dragon’s Dogma 2 so Arisen and Pawns can have even deeper personalization.
- Now on Nintendo Switch 2 – Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen brings the classic fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen Expansion to the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
- Pre-order Bonuses – The Norgan Fashion Set - Northern Attire will be available as a pre-order bonus, which can be accessed via in-game storage at launch.
There are two Portcrystal types to distinguish:
| Portcrystal type | How it works | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Permanent town Portcrystal | A fixed crystal in a city or town. | Interact with it once before it can be used as a Ferrystone destination. |
| Portable Portcrystal | A movable crystal you can place in the world. | It can be recovered and moved after placement. |
Ferrystone restrictions
Capcom says Ferrystones may be unusable during battle or while you are under a roof. An invalid attempt under a roof does not consume the stone. Move to a valid outdoor location and wait until combat has ended before trying again.
Fast travel changes your location, not the quest’s requirements. Carry the item in an accessible inventory, confirm the destination crystal has been activated or placed, and check the objective after arriving. If the recipient is time-dependent, travel may still require you to wait for the correct time of day.
A practical delivery workflow
Before leaving the current area
- Set the quest as priority and read the newest objective.
- Identify the item by its exact name and inspect where it is currently held.
- Move it from a pawn to the Arisen if you are about to dismiss, replace, or otherwise lose access to that pawn.
- Use an innkeeper to reduce unrelated inventory weight, but keep the required object accessible unless you intentionally plan to retrieve it before delivery.
During the journey
- Do not sell, discard, or let automatic inventory behavior handle the required object.
- If the route is long, use an activated permanent Portcrystal or a placed portable Portcrystal with a Ferrystone when you are outdoors and out of combat.
- Recheck the quest text if the marker changes, disappears, or fails to appear.
At the destination
- Confirm the recipient’s location and time-of-day availability.
- If the NPC is absent, investigate schedules, conditions, and the appropriate morgue rather than repeatedly depositing the item.
- Speak to the target with the item accessible.
- Verify that the objective, quest stage, or reward changes immediately after the interaction.
After the objective advances
Once the game confirms the handoff or moves to a new objective, manage the previous item according to the new quest text. Until that confirmation, keep its location known and avoid assuming that storage, a pawn, or a category label makes it safe to remove.

| Situation | Likely explanation | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| The item is in storage and the recipient does not react. | The quest may require the item to be accessible, or another condition may be unmet. | Retrieve it through an innkeeper, then retry after checking the objective. |
| A pawn disappeared and its item is missing. | The pawn may have become forfeit, sending held items to storage. | Inspect item storage. |
| A pawn’s inventory changed unexpectedly. | Hawker or Logistician may have transferred or sold carried items. | Check the pawn’s inventory and item storage. |
| No quest marker is visible. | Some quests intentionally lack markers or use markers that appear and disappear. | Follow the written objective and investigate prerequisites. |
| The marked NPC is absent. | The NPC may have moved, be available only at a certain time, or have died. | Return at another time and check the relevant morgue if necessary. |
| Ferrystone use fails. | You may be fighting or standing under a roof. | End combat and move outdoors; an invalid under-roof attempt does not consume the stone. |
What the official guidance does—and does not—confirm
Capcom’s support material confirms the innkeeper storage system, automatic storage recovery for items held by a pawn that becomes forfeit, inventory effects associated with Hawker and Logistician specializations, conditional quest markers, NPC movement and morgue locations. The official manual confirms Ferrystone travel to Portcrystals, activation requirements for permanent town crystals, and the movable nature of portable crystals.
It does not publish a universal rule that every quest item can be deposited during every quest stage and still be recognized by the next objective. That unresolved, quest-specific point is why retrieving the item before delivery is the dependable recommendation. Treat any successful behavior in one quest as evidence about that quest only, not as a guarantee for all other deliveries.
