Short answer: Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Switch 2 is a compromise-focused port. Reports of Digital Foundry’s analysis describe DLSS-upscaled output at 1080p when docked and 720p in handheld mode, together with simpler lighting, less foliage and more visible pop-in than the larger consoles. It offers several graphics modes, but none is an unconditional recommendation: standard mode has uneven 30-fps frame pacing, undocked mode has reported VRR problems, and frame generation raises input latency. Xbox Series X has a reported 60-fps maximum setting after Update 3.2, while Series S is capped at a reported 45-fps maximum setting. There is not enough matched, current-patch testing to name one overall winner across Switch 2, PS5, Series X and Series S.
What released on each platform
Capcom announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on June 10, 2026. The Switch 2 package combines the main game with its expansion; Capcom describes the original game as having launched in March 2024. The announcement is available from Capcom. The new package launched on October 9, 2026.

That packaging distinction matters when comparing prices. Capcom explicitly describes the Switch 2 edition as a combined base-game-and-expansion product, while the cited material does not establish whether the PS5 and Xbox releases use the same bundle, separate purchases or identical physical and digital contents. Check the product page for the exact console, included expansion, media format, stock and current price rather than assuming that every platform edition is packaged alike.

Switch 2 resolution and image quality
Docked mode
Nintendo Life’s summary of Digital Foundry’s Switch 2 analysis reports a 1080p output when the console is docked, reconstructed with DLSS. “1080p” in this context is the output signal after upscaling, not proof that the game renders every frame internally at native 1920×1080. The analysis also reports simplified lighting, reduced foliage density and more noticeable pop-in compared with the PlayStation 5 presentation shown in the coverage. Read the report at Nintendo Life.
DLSS can make a reconstructed image look cleaner than an equivalent low-resolution native image, especially on fine edges and distant geometry. It cannot recreate lighting calculations, plants or objects that the game has removed to meet the Switch 2’s performance budget. Consequently, a 1080p output label should not be read as visual parity with a higher-powered console running richer settings.
Handheld mode
In handheld mode, the same report describes a 720p DLSS-upscaled output. A 720p handheld image is being viewed on a much smaller screen than a television, so the practical effect depends on viewing distance, screen size and the amount of motion in a scene. The handheld and docked figures are different output targets, not two measurements that can be averaged into one resolution claim.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Handheld play also changes the comparison itself. A PS5 or Xbox connected to a television offers a fixed-display presentation, while Switch 2 can be played away from the TV. A player who values a portable campaign may accept softer fine detail or a shorter object draw distance that would be more distracting on a large screen.
What the visual concessions mean in play
- Lighting: simpler lighting can reduce the richness of shadows, illumination and scene contrast.
- Foliage: lower foliage density means fewer plants and environmental details are drawn at once.
- Pop-in: objects or vegetation may appear closer to the player instead of entering the scene at the same distance as on a more powerful console.
- Reconstruction: DLSS-upscaled output can look cleaner than a low-resolution native image, but it does not restore every detail removed by lower settings or a reduced internal render resolution.
These differences are most apparent during traversal, when the camera reveals a broad landscape, and in scenes with heavy vegetation or complex lighting. They do not mean the Switch 2 version is a different game; they describe where the port spends its limited rendering budget.
These findings are attributed to Digital Foundry’s analysis through Nintendo Life’s report; they are not a complete, independently measured comparison of every PS5 and Xbox graphics setting.
How the Switch 2 graphics modes behave
Standard mode
Nintendo Life’s account says standard mode targets 30 frames per second but exhibits juddery frame pacing. Frame rate and frame pacing are different: a counter can show roughly 30 fps while the time between displayed frames varies enough to make camera movement feel uneven. For a slow walk through the world this may be tolerable; rapid turns and combat make irregular delivery easier to notice.

When evaluating this mode, look beyond the headline number. A consistent 30-fps cadence can feel steadier than a nominally faster mode with irregular frame times. The cited coverage does not provide a full frame-time chart, so it cannot quantify how often or how severely pacing deviates; it does establish that the uneven delivery is noticeable enough to be called out.
Undocked mode and VRR
The report identifies VRR problems in undocked mode. Variable refresh rate is intended to synchronize the display’s refresh timing with the game’s changing frame delivery. If that synchronization is unreliable, enabling VRR may not produce the smoothness a player expects. The result can vary with the display and the exact mode selected.
VRR is therefore not a guaranteed solution to every Switch 2 performance issue. A compatible screen, the console’s output settings and the game mode all matter. If you see inconsistent motion with VRR enabled, compare it with VRR disabled rather than assuming the feature must remain on.

Frame-generation mode
Switch 2 can use frame generation, but Nintendo Life’s summary warns that it increases input latency. Generated frames are inserted between traditionally rendered frames; they can make motion appear closer to a 60-fps presentation without making the game simulate and render native gameplay at a stable 60 fps. A later Nintendo Life comparison describes the enabled result as an experience “equivalent to 60 fps,” while reporting performance that hovers around 40 fps. That wording should not be converted into a claim of a stable native 60-fps mode. The comparison is at Nintendo Life.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFrame generation can therefore improve perceived motion at the cost of responsiveness. Players who prioritize precise attack timing, camera control or menu input may prefer a lower-latency mode even if it looks less fluid. The perceived 60-fps effect is also not the same as doubling the game’s simulation rate: character input and game logic still originate from the traditionally rendered frames.
There is no universal Switch 2 recommendation
Because standard mode has uneven pacing, undocked mode has reported VRR issues and frame generation adds latency, the three choices represent different compromises rather than a single best setting. Choose according to whether your priority is consistent frame delivery, apparent motion smoothness, low input delay, docked play or handheld play.
It is sensible to test the modes in the same demanding area instead of judging from a quiet menu or an empty field. Towns, large battles and fast camera movement expose pacing and latency differences more readily than a static view. The cited reports do not identify one setting as best for every display and player.
PS5 performance and visuals
PS5 is one of the announced platforms, and a Switch 2-versus-PS5 side-by-side comparison has been published. However, the available report does not provide a complete PS5 specification sheet: it does not state a measured resolution, average frame rate, frame-time distribution, foliage setting or a mode-by-mode latency result that can be directly lined up with the Switch 2 figures.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That means it is reasonable to say the Switch 2 analysis reports visible reductions in lighting and foliage relative to the PS5 material shown, but not to assign PS5 a precise resolution or declare a measured frame-rate victory from the available evidence. A proper ranking would require both systems running the same patch, in the same scenes, with the same capture and measurement methods.
The PS5 comparison is still useful as a visual reference. It shows why a higher-powered fixed console can present denser environmental detail, but a side-by-side video is not a substitute for a controlled test. Capture compression, different display settings and the selected scene can exaggerate or hide differences. Treat the footage as evidence of the Switch 2 compromises identified in the analysis, not as a complete PS5 benchmark.
Xbox Series X and Series S frame-rate settings
Series X
Windows Central reports that, after Title Update 3.2 on September 2, 2026, Xbox Series X has a maximum FSR-upscaled frame-rate setting of 60 fps. This is a stated ceiling or selectable setting, not an independently reported average over the entire game. The report does not supply a directly comparable Series X resolution, frame-time chart or Switch 2-versus-Series X test. See the update coverage at Windows Central.
A 60-fps option is meaningful for players with a 120-Hz or VRR television, but “maximum” does not promise that every traversal sequence, town or combat encounter remains at that rate. Without averages and frame-time data, the safest conclusion is that Series X exposes the highest explicitly reported console setting in the cited coverage.
Series S
The same report gives Xbox Series S a maximum FSR-upscaled setting of 45 fps after Update 3.2. As with Series X, “maximum” describes the available setting or ceiling; it does not establish that the game holds 45 fps in every town, battle or traversal sequence. The source also does not provide a uniform average-frame-rate comparison with PS5 or either Switch 2 mode.

The 45-fps ceiling is not directly comparable to Switch 2’s reported performance around 40 fps. One is an Xbox setting described by Windows Central, while the other is a comparison-video observation tied to a frame-generation presentation. They come from different platforms, technologies and measurement contexts.
Why FSR and DLSS numbers should not be compared as raw resolution
Series X and Series S figures are described as FSR-upscaled frame-rate settings, while Switch 2 output is described as DLSS-upscaled 1080p docked and 720p handheld. These are different reconstruction technologies and different types of reported numbers. An output resolution is not a frame-rate measurement, and a maximum setting is not an average. Treating them as one shared benchmark would overstate what the sources establish.
FSR and DLSS also describe reconstruction methods, not a guarantee of identical internal render resolutions or image quality. To compare them fairly, a test would need to record internal resolution, output resolution, sharpening, graphics settings and motion behavior at the same locations and patch level.

For a meaningful comparison, use the same axes on every system: output and internal resolution, reconstruction method, graphics mode, average and low frame rates, frame-time consistency, tearing or VRR behavior, input latency and the play context. Docked and handheld Switch 2 results should not be folded into one number, and a frame-rate ceiling should not be compared with a measured average.
What the numbers mean for real play
If you want the smoothest apparent motion
Switch 2 frame generation may make motion look closer to 60 fps, but the reported underlying performance is around 40 fps and the mode adds input latency. Series X has the strongest explicitly reported ceiling at 60 fps, although that figure is a setting rather than a whole-game average. No cited source supplies a matching PS5 average or a test proving that Series X maintains 60 fps in every demanding scene.
If you want the lowest control latency
A mode without frame generation avoids the extra processing step identified in the Switch 2 analysis. That may be preferable for combat, where response matters more than the appearance of interpolated motion. The trade-off is that the image may look less fluid than the generated-frame presentation.
If image detail matters most
The available Switch 2 analysis specifically reports lower lighting complexity, foliage density and draw distance. Players sensitive to those details should expect the PS5 and Xbox versions to present the world more richly in the compared material, but the available reports do not provide a complete, controlled visual ranking between PS5 and Series X.

If you play mostly handheld
Switch 2 is the only option in this comparison that combines the game with portable play. Its reported 720p DLSS-upscaled handheld output and handheld-specific VRR caveat are part of that use case, not defects that can be measured directly against a fixed television mode. Portability can outweigh visible concessions for players who value playing away from a TV.
If you use a VRR television or monitor
Do not assume that a VRR display automatically resolves every performance issue. The Switch 2 report specifically notes VRR problems in undocked mode, while the cited Xbox and PS5 coverage does not provide a matched VRR test. Check the behavior on your own display and compare enabled and disabled settings before choosing a mode.
How to choose a version
- Choose Switch 2 for portability. Accept the reported reductions in lighting, foliage and draw distance, then select the mode that best balances pacing, latency and apparent smoothness for your display.
- Choose Series X if a 60-fps setting is your priority. Update 3.2 is reported to expose a maximum FSR-upscaled 60-fps setting, but do not read that ceiling as a guaranteed average in every scene.
- Choose Series S if you can accept a lower frame-rate ceiling. Its reported maximum is 45 fps after the same update, with no cited evidence of a like-for-like average against the other systems.
- Choose PS5 when you prefer the fixed-console presentation shown in the comparison coverage. The cited material does not provide enough measured data to quantify its advantage or compare it rigorously with Series X.
- Check the edition before buying. Capcom says the Switch 2 package includes the base game and expansion. The available information does not establish whether PS5 and Xbox editions use identical packaging, physical media or purchase structures, so verify the exact platform, included expansion, format, availability and current price at the retailer.
For any retailer listing, search for the exact edition name, “Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Nintendo Switch 2,” and confirm compatibility before checkout. Prices, stock and physical-versus-digital availability can change independently of the performance analysis.

What remains unknown
A definitive cross-platform verdict would need matched current-patch tests covering the same locations, camera movements and combat encounters on Switch 2 docked and handheld, PS5, Series X and Series S. The measurements should include internal and output resolution, reconstruction method, average and one-percent-low frame rates, frame-time variance, VRR behavior, tearing, input latency and graphics settings. The cited coverage does not provide that complete dataset.
Testing should also identify whether each number comes from a selectable cap, an observed average, a short-term peak or generated-frame presentation. Those distinctions are especially important here: Switch 2 has a reported output resolution and an approximately 40-fps observation, Xbox has reported maximum settings, and frame generation changes perceived motion without creating native 60-fps simulation.
That limitation matters because the available figures mix unlike categories: Switch 2 output resolutions, a reported Switch 2 performance estimate, Xbox maximum settings and a frame-generation description. Comparing those as if they were one standardized benchmark would produce a false sense of precision.

Before launch, producer Naoto Oyama told TechRadar: “we’re currently seeing a minimum 30 frames per second rate performance on that hardware (and, in many scenes, it’s even higher!).” The interview was published July 16, 2026, before release, so it is a development expectation rather than independent testing. Oyama also said the Switch 2 version was “exceeding our expectations,” another promotional forecast rather than a measured result. The report is at TechRadar.
Oyama’s minimum-30-fps comment is consistent with a target or observed floor during development, but it does not describe frame pacing, the effect of frame generation or performance in every scene. The post-release reports are more useful for those practical questions because they describe specific modes and visible behavior after launch.
For decisions about observed behavior, the post-release technical analysis and comparison reports carry more weight. They describe the actual trade-offs—uneven 30-fps pacing in standard mode, VRR concerns when undocked, added latency with frame generation and performance around 40 fps in the comparison—without turning those observations into a claim of native 60 fps.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Switch 2 really 60 fps?
Not as a demonstrated native 60-fps mode. A Nintendo Life comparison describes frame-generation output as “equivalent to 60 fps” while reporting performance around 40 fps. Generated frames improve apparent motion but add latency, so that description should not be treated as proof of stable native 60-fps rendering.
What resolution is the Switch 2 version?
Nintendo Life’s summary of Digital Foundry’s analysis reports DLSS-upscaled 1080p output when docked and 720p output in handheld mode. Those are output targets after reconstruction, not confirmed native internal render resolutions.
Does Switch 2 look worse than PS5?
The reported comparison identifies simpler lighting, reduced foliage and more pop-in on Switch 2 than in the PS5 material shown. The cited coverage does not provide a complete PS5 settings sheet or a numerical image-quality score, so it supports describing visible compromises rather than declaring an exact percentage difference.
Which Xbox version has 60 fps?
Windows Central reports a maximum FSR-upscaled 60-fps setting for Xbox Series X after Title Update 3.2 on September 2, 2026. Series S is reported at a maximum 45-fps setting. Neither figure is a guarantee of a sustained whole-game average.

Is Series X definitely faster than PS5?
The cited material does not establish that with a matched benchmark. Series X has the highest explicitly reported frame-rate setting, but no comparable PS5 average, frame-time chart or identical test sequence is supplied.
Does Switch 2 include the expansion?
Yes. Capcom says the Switch 2 package combines the base game and the expansion. Verify the contents of PS5 and Xbox editions separately, because the cited information does not establish identical packaging across platforms.
Should I enable frame generation?
Enable it if smoother-looking motion matters more than the lowest possible input latency. Disable it if precise combat response and direct controls are your priority. The reported Switch 2 modes involve trade-offs, and no single option is recommended unconditionally.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can VRR fix Switch 2 judder?
Not necessarily. The technical summary reports VRR problems in undocked mode, while standard mode has reported uneven 30-fps pacing. Try the game with VRR on and off on your particular display; the cited reports do not establish a universal VRR fix.
Bottom line
Switch 2 delivers the complete game-and-expansion package with portable play, DLSS-upscaled 1080p docked output and 720p handheld output, but it visibly reduces lighting complexity, foliage and draw distance. Its modes force a choice between pacing, VRR behavior and latency, and the reported “60-fps equivalent” frame-generation experience is not native 60 fps. Series X has the highest explicitly reported frame-rate ceiling at 60 fps after Update 3.2, while Series S is reported at 45 fps. PS5 and Xbox remain difficult to rank precisely because a matched, current-patch measurement set is not available. Pick Switch 2 for portability, or a fixed console when visual detail and a conventional low-latency presentation matter more than handheld access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Switch 2 60 fps?
The cited comparison reports frame-generation output that looks equivalent to 60 fps while underlying performance hovers around 40 fps. That is not proof of stable native 60-fps rendering, and frame generation increases input latency.
What resolution does Dragon’s Dogma 2 use on Switch 2?
The reported output is DLSS-upscaled 1080p docked and 720p handheld. These are reconstructed output targets, not confirmed native internal resolutions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich console has the highest reported frame-rate setting?
Xbox Series X has a reported maximum FSR-upscaled 60-fps setting after Title Update 3.2. Series S is reported at 45 fps, but neither number is a guaranteed whole-game average.
Does the Switch 2 edition include Dark Arisen?
Capcom says the Switch 2 package combines the main game and expansion. Confirm the contents and format of PS5 and Xbox editions separately.
Should I use frame generation on Switch 2?
Use it for smoother-looking motion if added input latency is acceptable. Choose a non-generated mode if combat responsiveness and the lowest latency matter more.
The Bottom Line
Choose Switch 2 for the bundled game, expansion and portability; choose a fixed console when richer visuals, lower-latency presentation or a higher reported frame-rate ceiling matters more. Current evidence does not support a definitive PS5-versus-Xbox-versus-Switch 2 performance winner.
