Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a single Switch 2 title that bundles the Dragon’s Dogma 2 main game and the new Dark Arisen expansion content. Capcom describes Dark Arisen as a paid expansion that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, which originally launched in March 2024. On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the new content is offered as expansion DLC; on Switch 2, the main game and expansion are sold together.

The Switch 2 version launched on October 9, 2026. Capcom announced two Switch 2 formats: a packaged retail edition and a digital download edition. Those are the two choices that matter for storage planning. The game’s name is important when searching, because the Switch 2 product is listed as Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, not simply Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How large is the digital download?
Nintendo’s official New Zealand eShop listing has shown two different figures for the same game page. One rendering displays 49.5 GB under required space, while another current rendering shows 54.0 GB estimated. The discrepancy has not been resolved, so neither number should be presented as a guaranteed final installation size.

For practical purposes, free approximately 54 GB before buying the download. That is a planning target, not a promise that the installer will consume exactly 54 GB. Regional storefronts can show different information, and Nintendo explicitly warns that an installation may need more or less free space than the displayed estimate.
Why the eShop figures conflict
The two values come from different renderings of Nintendo’s own New Zealand page rather than from two separately announced editions. That makes it unsafe to call one a base-game size and the other an expansion size. The available evidence does not establish that the figures represent different builds, updates or regional requirements.
Before downloading, open the eShop listing associated with your Nintendo Account’s region and read the current required-space field. Then check the free-space requirement shown when the console begins the installation. If those values differ from 49.5 GB or 54.0 GB, use the live regional information; it is more relevant to your console than an older search result or a listing from another country.

How much free space should you have?
Because Nintendo’s number is an estimate and the listing is inconsistent, do not aim to leave only a few megabytes beyond the advertised figure. A sensible preparation target is at least the current estimate plus some spare room for the installation process and ordinary system-management needs. The evidence does not establish a specific additional buffer, so no exact extra-gigabyte recommendation can be guaranteed.
If the console reports insufficient space, Nintendo’s stated remedies are to remove software you no longer need or add compatible storage. Deleting a game does not necessarily remove its save data, but the console’s own confirmation screens should be read carefully before approving any deletion.
Preparing a Switch 2 for the download
- Check the regional listing. In the eShop, open the Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen page for your account region and note the current required-space estimate.
- Check internal free space. Use the Switch 2 system’s storage-management screen to see how much room remains, rather than relying on the size of a single deleted title.
- Remove software only when necessary. If space is short, use the console’s data-management controls to delete unneeded software. Confirm which items are being removed and keep any data you intend to preserve.
- Add an approved card if needed. Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards for expansion storage. Insert a card with sufficient capacity, let the console prepare it if prompted, and then recheck the available space.
- Start the installation and read the prompt. The amount shown immediately before download is the most useful final check because Nintendo’s published estimate is not guaranteed to equal the installer’s exact requirement.
Do not buy a card solely because its label says microSD or microSDXC. Nintendo’s Switch 2 guidance specifies microSD Express compatibility, and the reviewed information does not validate a particular capacity, manufacturer or model. Check that the card is explicitly identified as microSD Express and that its capacity exceeds the amount you need.

Does the physical edition avoid a large download?
Capcom confirms that a packaged Switch 2 edition exists. That establishes the availability of a retail package, but it does not establish what is stored on the card inside it. The official material reviewed for this release does not identify the card format, state that the card contains the complete game, or say that a separate download is required.

It is equally inaccurate to call it a Game-Key Card without title-specific confirmation. Nintendo’s general support information says that a game can need update data and directs players to the game’s official page or package for title-specific storage requirements; that general guidance does not prove that this particular release requires an additional download.
If your purchase decision depends on playing from the card with little or no download, inspect the package wording in your region or wait for a reliable, title-specific hands-on report that identifies the card contents. Until then, keep enough storage available even if you choose the boxed version.

The storage question therefore does not have a simple “physical means no download” answer. Digital buyers can calculate around the 54 GB estimate. Physical buyers know a package exists but still need to verify whether the card carries the complete game and expansion or relies on additional data.

That figure is Japan-specific and should not be converted into a worldwide launch price. It may not match prices, taxes, currency conversions or retailer pricing in your region.

What to do when installation fails
The console says there is not enough space
Compare the console’s requirement with the free-space figure in storage management. If the available space is lower, delete software you no longer use or install a compatible microSD Express card, then retry. Nintendo does not publish a guaranteed extra-space amount for this title, so the console’s prompt should take precedence over a copied 49.5 GB or 54.0 GB figure.
The listing shows a different size
Use the current value displayed for your region. The conflicting New Zealand renderings demonstrate why a third-party size list or an old search result should not override the live eShop page.
You bought the boxed version and are asked to download data
The reviewed official information does not say whether the packaged card is complete or requires additional content. Check the package instructions and the title’s current support information before assuming the card is defective. Keep adequate storage available until the card requirements are confirmed.

Verify that the card is explicitly a microSD Express model. Switch 2’s documented expansion-storage requirement is microSD Express; the evidence does not support assuming that every older microSD card will work.

Search for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the Switch 2 package that combines the original game and its new expansion. For digital installation, reserve roughly 54 GB, check your region’s live eShop listing and follow the console’s final requirement. Use microSD Express if internal storage is insufficient. A packaged edition is confirmed, but its card contents remain unspecified in the available official information, so verify the box or a dependable hands-on report if avoiding a large download is essential.
