Dragon’s Dogma 2: Best Inventory Settings and Habits for Managing Loot

The most reliable inventory strategy in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a small field kit plus regular storage runs. Keep only the consumables, quest items and equipment you expect to use before the next inn. Deposit crafting materials, spare gear and surplus valuables when you arrive, then check both the Arisen’s and pawns’ inventories after transfers or pawn changes.

There is no officially documented “best inventory settings” menu to configure. The useful controls are the storage menu, pawn-specialization behavior and the post-update ability to sell or equip directly from storage.

What inventory management actually involves

Dragon’s Dogma 2 separates what your party carries in the field from the stock held in item storage. Capcom’s PlayStation 5 FAQ says storage is viewed through the menu that appears when you speak with an innkeeper, and bonus items also appear there. The FAQ was last updated October 12, 2026; labels can vary with platform or regional presentation, but this is the documented route to storage.

Location Best use What to check
Party inventories Items needed between safe stops: healing, curatives, tools, quest objects and currently useful equipment Who is carrying each item and whether weight is becoming a problem
Item storage Crafting stock, duplicate materials, spare weapons and armor, excess valuables and bonus items Whether an item can be sold or equipped there before you withdraw it

This is a management habit rather than a hidden game rule. The official material does not establish a universal sorting preference, automatic-combining destination, or inventory-weight setting. Do not rely on a setting name unless it is visible in your current game UI or manual.

The simple decision rule

Ask one question for every item: “Do I expect to use this before the next inn?” If the answer is yes, leave it with the character who can use it. If the answer is no, put it in storage at the next inn. If you are unsure, store it rather than making every pawn carry a permanent backup supply. You can retrieve, sell or equip stored items later, and a lighter party is easier to audit.

Are there inventory settings you should change?

No specific inventory-settings screen is verified by the official documentation. Capcom’s online-manual landing page links to platform manuals, but the linked manual endpoint was not available for verification. Consequently, claims about a particular “send items to storage,” “combine in storage,” sorting, or inventory-button option would be speculation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the controls that are confirmed instead:

  • Speak to an innkeeper to open the storage menu.
  • Use storage as the long-term stockroom rather than filling every character with materials.
  • Inspect pawn inventories after giving them items or changing your party.
  • Use the June 26, 2024 storage improvements to sell and equip without assuming withdrawal is required.

If your platform displays an additional inventory option, verify its exact behavior in the in-game manual before treating it as a global rule. The official FAQ notes that basic game contents are the same across regional versions, while some differences are hardware-specific. Read the Capcom online-manual page for the platform links.

Build a field kit before leaving town

A compact loadout prevents the most common problem: carrying every material and spare weapon “just in case.” Use this preparation sequence whenever you finish an inn stop.

  1. Decide the next safe stop. Your planned route determines how many healing items, curatives and tools are sensible. A short trip needs less redundancy than an extended wilderness detour.
  2. Keep role-specific essentials accessible. Put important consumables on the character expected to use them, rather than assuming another party member will have them when needed.
  3. Leave long-term stock behind. Deposit duplicate crafting materials, ingredients you are not about to combine, spare weapons and armor, and valuables that are not needed on the road.
  4. Check the carrier, not only the total. Open each party member’s inventory and confirm who holds quest objects, curatives and tools. This catches accidental transfers before you leave.
  5. Recheck after a change. Giving items to a pawn, hiring or dismissing a pawn, or changing who carries supplies can alter where items are located. Verify the final arrangement before setting out.

This approach does not promise a particular equip-load number; it limits unnecessary weight while keeping the items you can actually use during the next leg of travel.

Use a three-pile sort

At the inn, sort items into three practical piles. The first is next-trip equipment: the weapon and armor you are actually using, plus any vocation-specific piece you plan to equip soon. The second is field consumables: healing items, curatives, tools and quest objects needed on the route. The third is long-term stock: duplicates, crafting materials without an immediate purpose, spare equipment, bonus items you are not using and valuables ready for sale.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is not an in-game setting; it is a repeatable inspection method. It also gives you a quick answer when a new item drops. Keep it only if it belongs in one of the first two piles. Otherwise, leave it for the next storage visit instead of letting every pickup permanently expand the party’s load.

Use an inn as your inventory reset point

When you reach an inn, make storage maintenance part of the rest routine instead of postponing it until every character is overloaded. Storage access is documented through the innkeeper’s menu, so use that screen as your stockroom and audit point.

Deposit materials and duplicates

Open the storage menu through the innkeeper and move crafting materials, duplicate consumables, extra weapons and armor, and surplus valuables out of party inventories. Keep a small working quantity with the party only when you have a near-term use for it. This makes later searches easier and leaves carrying capacity for discoveries.

Check both the Arisen and each pawn rather than transferring only from the main character. A pawn may have been carrying materials for several stops, and a recent hire or dismissal can change who is in the party. A complete review prevents the classic situation where the Arisen looks light while a pawn is still loaded with duplicate gear.

Sell directly from storage

Capcom’s June 26, 2024 title update added the ability to sell items from storage. You can therefore clean out low-value stock at the storage screen without first moving every item back to the Arisen. The update announcement is explicit about this convenience; it does not require a withdrawal step before selling. See the June 26, 2024 Dragon’s Dogma 2 title update announcement.

Use this for the final pass after you have separated items you intend to keep. Selling directly from storage is convenient, but it does not decide which materials are valuable to your current plans. Review duplicates and near-term crafting needs first, then sell only the stock you have deliberately marked as surplus.

Equip armor from storage

The same update added armor equipping from storage, including while changing vocation at a vocation guild. If the armor you want is stored, try the equipment controls in that screen before moving the piece into a character’s inventory. Weapon and armor handling can differ by screen, so follow the labels shown by your current version rather than assuming every item category has identical controls.

Use storage before a vocation change

At a vocation guild, the post-update armor-from-storage function can reduce the amount of gear you carry around solely for a future build. Store vocation-specific armor after you finish with it, then equip it when the vocation change screen offers the storage option. Keep in mind that this documented convenience concerns armor; do not extend it automatically to every weapon, accessory or consumable menu.

Manage pawns without losing track of items

Pawns are useful couriers, but their specialization can change how weight and items are handled. Capcom specifically names the Hawker and Logistician specializations as able to adjust total carried weight. Its examples include automatically receiving items and equipment from the Arisen and selling low-rarity items. The FAQ does not publish a complete item-by-item policy for either specialization.

Situation Documented information Practical response
Hawker or Logistician pawn is active These specializations can adjust total carried weight; Capcom gives automatic receiving and low-rarity selling as examples. Inspect that pawn’s inventory and specialization behavior whenever an item seems to have moved or disappeared.
You hand a pawn supplies The transfer changes which character carries the items. Open the pawn’s inventory immediately and confirm the transfer, especially for healing and quest objects.
You hire or dismiss a pawn The FAQ documents automatic storage of items held by a pawn who becomes forfeit, not every possible dismissal or inventory event. Check the remaining party and storage rather than assuming all items followed the same rule.

For important consumables, conservative practice is to keep them on the character expected to use them and verify their location periodically. That recommendation avoids relying on undocumented specialization rules.

A pawn handoff checklist

  1. Before giving a pawn an item, note what you are transferring and why.
  2. Open that pawn’s inventory immediately afterward.
  3. Confirm that quest objects and critical curatives are still present.
  4. Inspect the pawn’s specialization if weight changes unexpectedly.
  5. Repeat the check after hiring, dismissing or replacing a pawn.

This takes less time than searching every inventory later. It is especially important when a Hawker or Logistician is involved, because the documented automatic-receiving and low-rarity-selling examples mean you should not assume that every item remains exactly where you placed it.

What happens when a pawn becomes forfeit?

Capcom states that items held by a pawn who becomes forfeit are automatically sent to item storage. This is a documented recovery case. It should not be expanded into a claim that every pawn dismissal, party change or apparent inventory loss sends items to storage automatically. If something is missing, inspect storage and each remaining party inventory first, then consider whether the pawn became forfeit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not use this rule as a substitute for normal backups. Before a risky trip, keep the most important consumables on the character expected to use them, and make an inn storage visit when you return. The forfeit rule tells you where those held items go in that specific documented event; it does not describe every inventory transition in the game.

Storage capacity and the 99-to-999 change

The June 26, 2024 title update increased the maximum number of one item type in storage from 99 to 999. Capcom says deposits beyond that maximum are automatically limited to the maximum. The figure applies per item type in storage, and it is a patch detail from 2024 rather than a promise that every separate inventory or carrying limit is 999.

Patch detail What it means in practice
Previous maximum: 99 of one item type in storage Older advice may warn that a stack stops at 99.
Updated maximum: 999 of one item type in storage Large material stockpiles can remain in storage, subject to the per-type cap.
Deposits above the cap The game automatically limits the stored amount to the maximum; do not assume excess units were retained elsewhere.

Because this cap is per item type, it is still sensible to sell or use materials you no longer need rather than treating storage as infinite. If a deposit appears smaller than expected, compare the stored quantity with the 999-per-type ceiling before assuming that items vanished. Also remember that this storage figure does not establish a universal party equip-load limit.

Camping, inns and the “Last Inn Rest” save

Camping is not equivalent to an inn or dwelling rest for the save option called “Last Inn Rest.” Capcom defines that option as the last time the Arisen rested at an inn or dwelling; camping does not count. The same FAQ says autosave occurs when entering a new area or resting at an inn.

  • Use camps for field recovery and preparation when appropriate, but do not expect a camp to update the “Last Inn Rest” point.
  • Use an inn when you want both a storage visit and the documented inn-rest save behavior. A dwelling can count for the rest definition, but storage access is documented through speaking with an innkeeper.

Do not choose a camp solely because you expect it to create the same recovery point as an inn. If you need to update Last Inn Rest, finish the route to an inn or dwelling and rest there.

Troubleshoot common inventory problems

“An item I gave away is missing.”

Open every current party inventory, including the pawn that received the item. If that pawn has Hawker or Logistician, inspect the specialization and recent item behavior because Capcom documents automatic receiving and low-rarity selling examples. Then check storage, especially if the pawn became forfeit. Do not assume a normal dismissal follows the forfeit rule.

“I cannot find my bonus items.”

Capcom says bonus items appear in in-game storage. Speak with an innkeeper and inspect storage rather than searching only the Arisen’s inventory. If the item still does not appear, confirm that you are checking the correct character, platform version and storage screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I am carrying too much.”

First remove duplicate materials, spare equipment and valuables that have no immediate purpose. Move them to storage at the next inn. Review pawn inventories and specialization behavior, since Hawker and Logistician can adjust total carried weight. The official sources do not establish a universal equip-load setting or a single numeric remedy.

“The game will not let me sell or equip a stored item.”

Confirm that the game is updated to include the June 26, 2024 storage changes, then use the controls shown in the storage or vocation-guild screen. The update specifically adds selling from storage and armor equipping from storage, including during vocation changes; it does not establish identical behavior for every item type or every menu.

“My storage deposit stopped short of what I had.”

Check the quantity of that item type in storage. The update raises the per-type storage maximum from 99 to 999, and deposits beyond the maximum are automatically limited. The patch note does not say that excess units are placed in another hidden location, so do not count on recovering anything above the cap.

“I camped, but Last Inn Rest did not change.”

That is expected under Capcom’s definition. Camp at a suitable time for field recovery, then rest at an inn or dwelling when you need the Last Inn Rest point updated.

A repeatable loot routine

Use this short checklist at each settlement:

  1. Speak with the innkeeper and open storage.
  2. Deposit materials, duplicate gear and valuables with no immediate use.
  3. Separate near-term crafting stock from surplus before selling.
  4. Sell unwanted stock directly from storage where the updated menu allows it.
  5. Equip stored armor during a vocation change when the screen offers that option.
  6. Review the Arisen’s inventory and every pawn’s inventory.
  7. Leave only the supplies planned for the next route.
  8. Rest at an inn or dwelling if you need the documented Last Inn Rest behavior; do not substitute a camp.

After a pawn change or specialization-related surprise, repeat the inventory review before traveling. This catches item movement while it is still easy to correct.

Between-stop version

If you are far from an inn, perform a smaller field audit. Keep the next encounter’s healing and curatives accessible, move duplicates to a pawn only if you will verify the result, and avoid collecting every spare weapon simply because a slot is available. You are not trying to create a perfect permanent inventory in the wilderness; you are buying enough organization to reach the next documented storage point safely.

Platform and version limits

The cited FAQ is specifically for PlayStation 5 and was updated October 12, 2026. Capcom says basic game contents are the same across regional versions, with some hardware-specific differences. The June 26, 2024 storage features are dated patch notes, so an unpatched installation may not expose the same commands. For exact button prompts and platform-specific labels, use the current in-game manual and UI rather than importing instructions from another platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I open Dragon’s Dogma 2 item storage?

Speak with an innkeeper and use the menu that appears. Capcom also says bonus items are placed in in-game storage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I sell items without taking them out of storage?

Yes. Capcom’s June 26, 2024 title update added selling directly from storage, so withdrawal is not required for that supported menu.

Can I equip armor directly from storage?

Yes. The same update added armor equipping from storage, including during a vocation change at a vocation guild. Follow the controls shown on your current screen.

What do Hawker and Logistician pawns do to inventory?

Capcom says these specializations can adjust total carried weight, with examples including automatically receiving items and equipment from the Arisen and selling low-rarity items. The FAQ does not provide a complete item-by-item policy, so inspect the pawn inventory when something moves.

Where do items go if a pawn becomes forfeit?

Capcom says items held by a pawn who becomes forfeit are automatically sent to item storage. Do not assume every dismissal or party change works the same way.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the storage limit 999 items?

The June 2024 update increased the maximum of one item type in storage from 99 to 999. Deposits beyond that per-type maximum are automatically limited; this does not establish a 999 limit for every inventory.

Does camping update Last Inn Rest?

No. Capcom defines Last Inn Rest as the last rest at an inn or dwelling, and camping does not count. Autosave occurs on entering a new area or resting at an inn.

Is there a confirmed automatic sorting or combining setting?

No such setting is established by the cited official documentation. Use the storage menu, current game UI and platform manual rather than relying on an unverified option name.

The Bottom Line

Best practice: carry a small, role-appropriate field kit; use an innkeeper’s storage menu as your stockroom; sell surplus and equip supported armor directly from storage; and inspect every pawn after transfers or party changes. Hawker and Logistician behavior can move items or alter weight, while a forfeit pawn’s items are specifically sent to storage. The 2024 patch raises storage to 999 per item type, but it does not create a universal equip-load setting. Camp for field recovery, and use an inn or dwelling when you need the documented Last Inn Rest behavior.
