The game’s official Steam description says meals strengthen bonds with neighbors and unlock new opportunities, but it does not publish a complete character-by-character unlock list or fixed affection thresholds.
How to unlock more townspeople
- Check the active request or quest text. Treat the task shown in your current game as the guide to what to do next. A community walkthrough cautions that quest order, item costs, and dragon timing may differ from older demo footage, so a demo route is not a guaranteed full-release sequence. Dragon Shelter Guide
- Gather the requested ingredients or goods. The game’s official description presents farming and cooking as part of helping residents. Grow or collect what the request names rather than relying on a recipe or item list from another version. Dragon Shelter on Steam
- Prepare and deliver the requested item. The official listing describes cooking as central to crafting and says meals can strengthen neighbor bonds, lift spirits, and unlock opportunities. It does not identify a particular dish as a guaranteed townsperson unlock.
- Return to the resident and continue the conversation or quest. Keep following any new request that appears, then continue progressing through the farm and town story. A launch-period account from PC Gamer describes the mayor asking the player to earn townsfolk trust through gifts and quests, with additional residents appearing during the writer’s first two weeks. That is one playthrough, not a universal timetable. PC Gamer’s launch-period playthrough
Why an NPC may not have appeared yet
- An earlier request may still be active. Complete the current task and check for a follow-up before assuming a character is missing.
- You may be following demo instructions. The community guide’s order and requirements are not established as the full-release route; use your in-game request text for exact items and prerequisites. Dragon Shelter Guide
- Progress may depend on continued town or story activity. The official description connects meals and relationships with new opportunities, while a launch-period player account describes gifts and quests as part of earning trust. Neither source gives a universal relationship threshold or precise unlock schedule. Steam listing PC Gamer
What is known about the townspeople roster
There is no verified complete, official roster or NPC-by-NPC unlock table in the available sources. The unofficial townsfolk guide describes five residents in the Steam demo, a demo-specific count rather than the full game’s population. It identifies Rufus by name in that coverage and describes other residents by their roles; avoid treating unverified names or demo details as confirmed full-release facts. Townsfolk guide

In its own launch-period playthrough, PC Gamer reports later arrivals including an alchemist, weaver, fisherman, and bard. Those observations help show that the full-release town can expand beyond the demo, but they do not establish a complete roster or the order every player will encounter them. PC Gamer
