Early-game reports support growing wheat and potatoes, gathering berries, and using a water dragon to help with watering—not a precise crop-profit ranking.
How farming fits into Dragon Shelter
Dragon Shelter is a PC farming simulation by Wild Forest Studio, published by Curve Games, and released on Steam on September 24, 2026. Its store description connects farming with gathering resources, raising dragons, cooking, and helping townsfolk: Steam store page.

That makes the farm part of a wider progression loop rather than a proven profit-maximization system. In a September 25, 2026 account of the first 14 in-game days, PC Gamer’s Lauren Morton describes growing wheat and potatoes, picking berries, cooking food, feeding a water dragon, and delivering requested food to townspeople: PC Gamer’s launch-period account. It is a firsthand early-game report, not a complete guide to later progression.
How to get started with a manageable farm
Clear a small plot near home
The unofficial farming guide for the pre-release demo describes a rusty shovel, watering can, and axe in the house chest. It says to use the shovel to open ground, the can to water planted beds, and the axe to clear wood; a pickaxe is used for stone and iron ore. Start near the house so storage, kitchen, and pond work stay convenient, and clear debris before planting. These tool details come from the demo guide, not a post-launch full-release manual: Dragon Shelter Wiki farming guide.

Plant only what you can water
Before dragon assistance is available, the demo guide recommends keeping the planted area small enough to water before sleep. Crops grow through the day-and-night cycle, so opening more beds than you can maintain adds work without a demonstrated benefit.
Use dragon help as progression allows
The demo guide describes assigning watering after pond purification and feeding. PC Gamer’s launch-period account independently reports that a water dragon automatically watered crops and could be assigned chores such as chopping trees or rocks when equipped with tools. Dragon help reduces routine labor, but you still choose what to plant and manage planting and harvest timing.

Which crops matter in the early game?
| Crop or ingredient | Supported use | Evidence and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Wheat | Used to make bread. | Described in the demo farming guide and in PC Gamer’s early-game account; neither source gives a dependable yield or profit comparison. |
| Berries | Used for jam and dragon food. | The demo guide describes these uses, while PC Gamer reports picking berries. No quantified value or best-berry strategy is established. |
| Potatoes | Another food crop; PC Gamer describes cooking baked potatoes. | Present in the launch-period account and described as a backup crop in the demo guide. No crop ranking is established. |
Choose crops according to the meals, dragon care, or town requests you need to support. The cited early-game material does not establish crop yields, growth times, profit per day, or full seasonal rankings, so there is no evidence-based “most profitable crop” recommendation.
Where should you plant water flowers?
In the pre-release demo guide, water flowers go on the glowing shore patches around the murky pond. The guide says they purify the pond and support the water dragon’s presence and watering help. Treat the placement and progression details as demo-specific: the guide was last updated September 13, 2026, before the full release, and the launch-period report does not independently confirm that exact flower placement.

What to do with the harvest
Use the farm to supply the next step in play. PC Gamer’s early-game report describes cooking bread and baked potatoes, feeding the dragon, and delivering requested food to townspeople. The Steam listing likewise presents farming alongside cooking, dragon raising, resource gathering, and helping townsfolk. Plan harvests around those needs instead of assuming that selling one crop is the dominant objective.

The September 25, 2026 PC Gamer account corroborates wheat, potatoes, berries, cooking, dragon feeding, and dragon-assisted watering during its first 14 in-game days. It does not document every late-game mechanic. The more detailed advice about tools, water flowers, and pond progression comes from a pre-release demo guide that explicitly limits its scope; it should not be treated as a complete account of the released game’s seasons or farming systems.
