What triggered DraftKings’ October 5 rally?
Yahoo Finance reported that DKNG climbed more than 7% to around $20 in recent trading on October 5, 2026, following Bank of America’s rating change. The report said DraftKings shares had fallen more than 40% year to date as of that session. Bank of America moved its rating from Neutral to Buy but retained its $27 price target. In other words, the upgrade changed the bank’s recommendation; the reported target itself was not raised.
Why Bank of America turned more positive
As reported by Yahoo Finance, Bank of America analysts pointed to the substantial pullback, investor worries about unfavorable NFL outcomes and uncertainty over DraftKings’ investment in prediction markets. They argued that the market’s reaction had gone too far. The analysts said, “We think the recent pullback creates an attractive opportunity, and we increasingly believe [prediction markets] are a win-win,” and, “In our view, the stock reaction is overdone.” Yahoo Finance’s cited passage does not name the individual analysts.

Their prediction-market case included the possibility that regulatory setbacks could remove an overhang for DraftKings’ wider business. That is the analysts’ scenario, not an established regulatory outcome or a guarantee that the core business would benefit.
What the prediction-market estimates do—and do not—say
Bank of America analysts estimated that DraftKings’ prediction-market business could generate $400 million in fees in 2027, plus another $200 million to $400 million from market making, according to the October 5 Yahoo Finance report. These are third-party-reported analyst projections. They are not company guidance, reported revenue, or independently confirmed results.

The estimates also cover a different period and business driver from DraftKings’ published fiscal 2026 outlook. Comparing the figures directly would blur the distinction between a 2027 analyst scenario for prediction-market fees and market making and management’s guidance for the company’s 2026 revenue and adjusted EBITDA.
How the company’s published figures provide context
In its February 12, 2026 earnings release, DraftKings reported fourth-quarter 2025 revenue of $1.989 billion, up 43% year over year from $1.393 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024. DraftKings said those fiscal 2026 ranges reflect expected investment in DraftKings Predictions, launches in jurisdictions it considered within line of sight, and planning amid evolving conditions. The guidance excludes potential variance related to sports outcomes. The figures were published in February and may have changed since then.

The upgrade is one analyst firm’s view, not a determination that DKNG is suitable for every investor. Its case rests partly on the premise that the share-price decline had become excessive and partly on a prediction-market opportunity whose regulatory and commercial outcomes remain uncertain. A sharp rally after an upgrade does not establish that the stock has reached a bottom or that it will meet the bank’s target.
