You can download a Google Slides presentation as a PowerPoint file by opening it on a computer and selecting File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx). Audio may not carry over: Google’s documentation confirms audio can be added to Slides and discusses media in Slides exports, but does not confirm that audio survives this specific PPTX conversion. Open the downloaded file in the PowerPoint app you plan to use and test every cue before sharing it.

Open the presentation in Google Slides in a computer browser. If it uses sound, play the source deck first to confirm the audio works. Google Slides supports adding MP3 and WAV files stored in Google Drive. Google’s instructions for adding audio also explain the audio and sharing workflow.

Open the downloaded PPTX in the PowerPoint app your audience will use. Check each slide with audio, including whether playback starts as expected and whether the sound is clear.

Will the audio transfer to PowerPoint?
It is not confirmed by the official documentation cited here. Google explains how to add audio to Slides, and its Drive export documentation includes embedded audio and video among Google Slides export contents. That general statement does not establish that audio is preserved in a Google Slides download specifically converted to PPTX. Google’s export documentation does not provide a guarantee of audio fidelity for this conversion.
Treat audio retention as something to verify, not something to assume. If a cue is missing or plays differently in PowerPoint, add the original audio file to the corresponding slide. Microsoft lists MP3 and WAV as supported PowerPoint audio formats and recommends M4A encoded with AAC. Microsoft’s audio-format guidance covers supported formats and insertion.

What to check before sending the deck

Audio: Test every sound in the exported PPTX, rather than checking only the first slide or relying on the source deck’s playback.

Slide layout: Review the presentation in PowerPoint for any formatting changes. The cited Google guidance does not guarantee that slide formatting will remain identical in conversion.

Media access: If you are sharing the presentation in Google Slides instead of sending the PPTX, check collaborators’ permissions for audio or video. Google’s sharing guidance describes an access checker that can suggest permission updates for shared presentations containing media.
Can you export from a phone or tablet?
Google’s help pages say the Slides apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android can export presentations as PPTX. Those instructions do not confirm whether embedded audio is retained in the mobile export either. If audio matters, test the exported file in the target PowerPoint app before relying on it.
