Yes, YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams, including a 24/7 stream of your own older videos. But YouTube does not publish a categorical ruling that every archive loop is allowed or disallowed. Having made the videos is relevant to reused-content review; it does not settle the separate question of whether a continuous, repetitive presentation offers enough distinct value, nor does it clear rights to music or other third-party material.
How YouTube’s rules apply to a 24/7 archive stream
YouTube says that when its monetization-policy page uses the word “video,” it includes Shorts, long-form videos, and live streaming. The policy does not give a special safe harbor for continuously replaying your own archive, or say that every such stream automatically fails. The outcome depends on the material, the way it is presented, and the channel as a whole.
Reused content and inauthentic content are different tests
Reused content asks what you repurposed and what you added
YouTube describes reused content as material already available on YouTube or another online source that is repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The key issue is whether viewers can tell there is a meaningful difference from the source material. YouTube also says this monetization assessment is separate from copyright, permission, and fair use: having permission does not by itself establish compliance with the reused-content policy. If you created the videos, that is important context: you are not simply republishing somebody else’s work. Still, authorship alone does not answer whether the channel’s monetized output meets YouTube’s originality and viewer-value expectations.
Inauthentic content asks whether the material is repetitive or mass-produced
YouTube separately addresses repetitive or mass-produced material under its inauthentic-content policy. Videos can share a format and still offer distinct creative, educational, or other value; the concern is substantially similar or template-like content with little meaningful variation or value. An unchanged archive loop may therefore raise a concern even when the footage is yours. YouTube updated the policy page on July 15, 2025, renaming “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” It said the change clarified the existing rule and did not change the reused-content policy. YouTube channel monetization policies

YouTube says reviewers may examine the channel’s main theme, most-viewed videos, newest videos, the content responsible for the largest share of watch time, metadata such as titles, thumbnails, and descriptions, and the About section. That channel-wide approach matters if the 24/7 stream becomes a prominent source of watch time or changes how the channel is presented. Make the stream’s purpose and your role in creating its material clear in its presentation, and consider whether it contributes a distinct experience rather than merely repeating substantially identical videos. This is practical guidance, not a formula or assurance of approval.
Check rights separately from monetization eligibility
YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the necessary rights to use live content on Google services, including music rights where applicable. They also address archived live content. Rights clearance and monetization review answer different questions. A stream can have the necessary permissions and still raise an originality or repetitive-content concern; conversely, a monetization assessment does not establish that every image and sound is cleared for use.

A practical review before you start the stream
- Confirm authorship and permissions. Be able to explain your role in producing the videos, and review rights for every embedded image, clip, and sound, including music.
- Assess the viewer experience. Ask whether the continuous stream provides a clear purpose or distinct value, or simply repeats substantially the same material. YouTube does not publish a minimum amount of added content or a safe rotation schedule.
- Consider the whole channel. Think about how the stream fits the channel’s theme, recent and popular uploads, metadata, and likely share of watch time—the kinds of context YouTube says reviewers may examine.
- Use current, account-specific guidance. If YouTube has sent your channel a monetization notice, rely on that notice and the current YouTube Help policy rather than treating a general explanation as a decision about your channel.
What a monetization decision can affect
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) includes features such as advertising, Shopping, YouTube Premium revenue, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and Super Thanks, each with its own eligibility requirements. A decision about one channel or format should not be treated as a guarantee of eligibility for every feature.
