YouTube’s published guidance does not say that changing an ended livestream replay to Unlisted switches off Watch Page ads. But unlisting can reduce discovery, which may mean fewer replay views and fewer chances for ads to be served. The actual revenue effect depends on the archive, viewers, monetization eligibility and ad delivery—not visibility alone.
What Unlisted changes—and what it does not
An Unlisted replay can be watched by anyone who has its link, and viewers can reshare that link. It generally will not appear in YouTube search or on your channel’s Videos tab. That reduces ordinary discovery, but YouTube does not publish a guaranteed or quantified revenue change caused by unlisting. Any revenue effect through fewer views is a possibility, not a fixed deduction. YouTube’s visibility guidance explains how Unlisted access differs from Public visibility.

Visibility is separate from ad eligibility and ad delivery. YouTube says creators can earn from live streams and live replays, and can see a breakdown of that ad revenue in YouTube Analytics. Watch Page monetization is subject to the applicable monetization module, channel eligibility, content eligibility and advertiser suitability; enabling monetization does not guarantee that ads will run. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance covers revenue reporting and monetization requirements.
First check whether YouTube made a complete replay
A continuous 24/7 broadcast is longer than YouTube’s stated 12-hour capture limit. YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be archived at all. Do not assume there is a complete replay—or that it covers the full broadcast—until you inspect the actual archive. YouTube’s livestream archive guidance describes this limitation.

- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Live and find the ended broadcast.
- Confirm that an archive exists and check its actual duration. If it is missing or shorter than expected, the available replay cannot represent the full 24/7 stream.
- Check the replay’s monetization status and whether the channel has accepted the Watch Page Monetization Module where required.
- Choose Public or Unlisted based on the access and discovery you want; do not treat that visibility choice as an ad-on or ad-off control.
Unlisted replay revenue is different from YPP public watch hours
Unlisted livestreams do not count toward YouTube Partner Program public-watch-hour thresholds. That eligibility rule is not the same as whether an already monetized channel can earn Watch Page ad revenue from views of a replay. Keep the two questions separate: YPP threshold credit and ad revenue from eligible replay views. See YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance for the public-watch-hour rule.
How to measure the effect on your channel
YouTube Analytics is the practical source for your channel-specific result. YouTube says Analytics provides a breakdown of ad revenue from live streams and live replays. Compare the relevant live-stream and replay reporting, and interpret revenue alongside view volume and ad delivery rather than assuming a change in visibility alone caused a change in earnings.

- Check the replay’s views and the period being compared.
- Review the available live-stream and live-replay ad revenue breakdowns.
- Consider whether the archive was complete, whether viewers still had the link, and whether the content remained eligible and suitable for ads.
There is no official fixed amount or percentage by which unlisting reduces replay revenue. Actual results depend on traffic sources, link access, archive availability, monetization status, suitability and whether ads are served. YouTube has reported an over-20% average uplift in instream ad revenue per hour among creators who chose live automatic mid-roll ads, compared with channels without live automatic mid-rolls, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That finding concerns live automatic mid-rolls—not replay visibility or the effect of making a replay Unlisted. YouTube’s January 2024 live-streaming announcement describes the comparison.
